I flew 'em 8 years in the good ol USMC. A Very cool (but leaky) old helo. Mine had a few dozen bullet holes in her from Viet Nam, and they say the last 46 pilot isn't born yet... well see. The Osprey was supposed to replace them. Fat chance! The osprey is too new shiny and expensive... The -46 will always be the backbone of USMC aviation!!!
it's a ch46 'seaknight'...I flew one for nine years in the Marine Corps, over 1700 logged flight hours as aircraft commander, section leader, division leader, flight leader...over 500 logged carrier landings aboard the USS New Orleans, USS Guadalcanal and the USS Iwo Jima...we called them 'phrogs'...it is designed to carry one reinforced Marine rifle squad into combat
those who think it is a ch47 'chinook' need to go back to aircraft recognition training
a chinook has 4 landing gear points.. a seaknight has 3.. there is no possible way anyone can argue this is a chinook... unless of course they a retard.. but then.. retards dont really need a reason do they?
ATTENTION............HELPFUL HINT FOR THE MENTALLY INFIRMED. CH-46 3 WHEELS/landing gear CH-47 HAS 4 (four) To learn more please visit your nearest Marine Corps or Army recruiting office. Bring a pen!
How is this a Chinook, every time someone sees double rotors, everyone assumes its a Chinook, every one that says this helicopter is a Chinook clearly hasn't seen a Chinook before! And Chinooks are shit helicopters, they need to be replaced by the Blackhawk or the Sea Knight!
@HMSDaring1 problem is with the crash-hawks is that it takes about 8 to carry the weight and equipment 1 CH-47D or F model Chinook can carry in one trip....the Chinook still holds the record for altitude and speed over all other US helis. In asscrackistan we had to wait for the Hawks and Apaches (both A models and Longbows) to keep up with us because the just didnt have power to get over the mountains. "HOOKERS DO IT WITH MORE THRUST!" Thrust (ie collective) 67U3PQ2
the ch-46 can be identified because of its light gray camo and the pylons are very short and stubby. the chinnoks are generally loive drab and the pylons go all the way to the cockpit ( giggity) almost
@2PieceNaBiscut I was in MAG-39 as a Marine and I'm there now as a contractor. I was with HMM(T)-164 for 2 years and HMM-268 for almost 3 years. I work at HMM(T)-164 now as a contractor. 6152 is my MOS. I knew a few people from 163, when were you there?
@BigMo1352 I was a 6112/6172 and I was at MCAS Tustin (91-95), since been closed. I got out in Nov 95. I guess MAG 16 got folded into another MAG and they're down at Mirimar or Camp Pen.
All comments have been removed. THIS IS INDEED A CH-46 SEA KNIGHT, NOT A CH-47 CHINOOK. The USMC does not operate the Chinook. Please, no more arguing over the type of helicopter. I have about ten times more video of Sea Knights than I do of Chinooks!
@airshowfansh dont worry im on ur side, i understand its not a chinook becuase the chinook is larger as so it can carry FAVs and troops and the sea knight is used for transporting troops
@OMAHA2231 Chinook has 4 landing gear all at the same height the Sea Knight Has 3 landing gear 1 tall one at the front and 2 at the back. it is also smaller and operates from US marine LHD's. so for one thing ITS NO A CHINOOK!!
@OMAHA2231 one wheel on the front the chinook has a set of 4 wheels the sea knight only has 3 2 on the back and one on the front end and the sea knight looks like it has muscle while the chinook has fat the sea knight has a smiley face the chinook looks mad the sea knight is faster the chinook is slower the sea knight carries marines the chinook carries army the sea knight has an "S" the chinook has a "C" the sea knight love water the chinook loves dirt there you go the differnces
To be honest with u, that is acually a Navy HH-46 Sea Knight. The difference between the HH and the CH is the HH is equipt with a dopplar so it can maintain a hover over the rising and fallin of the sea. That is a Navy bird. Notice the rescue hoist on the starboard side of the aircraft. Marines dont fly search and rescue.
@ulikethat420 This is a CH-46E Sea Knight. I have 18 years flying this machine and yes Marines Do fly search and Rescue. The only active USMC SAR unit is VMR-1 which operates at MCAS Cherry Point, NC. I was assinged to that unit as a SAR pilot from 1998 to 2001 when we flew the HH-46D. Since then they have upgraded to the "E". The difference is evident in the stubwings and the engine intakes. The stubwings on a 46E are larger than the D and the intakes on the D are pointed.

Yes it is a CH-46, if you all look at the landing you will see 3 sets, the CH-47 has four
and the engines also are highly visible on each side

one rotor is higher than the other thats how they keep from bumping
chris4071000 9 months ago
@chris4071000 no, there is a shaft from between the two rotors that prevents them from meshing. Like on the Chinook
