the engine knows when to initiate the spark plug by using a gear with many teeth and a small IR detector that picks up the teeth to determine the exact precise location of each piston so then it sends the data to the computer witch in turn initiates the appropriate spark plugs on the appropriate pistons so that the engine starts runs and stops correctly
