I tip my hat to the bassist that can fly "blind" on an unmarked neck and not trainwreck a song. Hell....I'm still trying to make the adjustment from 4 string to 5 string. 4 months so far, I can fly on the neck BUT I watch my fingers because I still think in 4 string. Kinda hard to switch after 40 + years with a traditional 4 string bass .Kids...GO 5 STRING!!

I enjoy playing bass and see each different genre as a challenge to typical mundane elevator muzak. I don't think you can be a good musician without incoporating a little bit of this and a little bit of that in your playing style. It puts you to the test to make it all fit and it prevents you from sounding like the next guy.
