@mraznmanandy I have no real relationship with either tennis team. I graduated from Cal a long time ago, but I live much closer to Stanford now. Incidentally, Stanford's facility is also MUCH better to record video. I just love watching tennis: college, pro, whatever. While pro tennis is easy for anyone to find on TV, it isn't so easy to find D1 college tennis depending on where you live. I just thought I'd record and share these vids especially for those people.
These videos are great. My dream is to play tennis in college and this is a really good way to see what it's like on the court. Thanks for the videos!
what are you all talking about "good" ??? what good. both of them make a ton of double faults , both have predictable styles , none even used drop shots or wider backhands. come on people.
gosh, the volley he misses at 3'27... reminds me of roddick against federer at set point at wimbledon... Americans can't hit a volley, tat's for sure :)
a couple things im not impressed with in this match is the lack of shot variation between intense exchanges, and the unwillingness to come to the net. everything else isnt so bad.
I know I say a lot of negative things about our G'lden Bears -- only because I'm a Cal fan and alum and have always enjoyed our tennis teams. So, to see a player like this Zerbin guy playing number one -- well that's so disappointing because he's just awful. Maybe I'm not that good in tennis myself -- but I did carry my teammate in taking two games off of Phanco and Carmel in a game between two egg-head grad students and Cal's #1 and I think #6 player in 1993.
What a terrible exchange at 2:34: hitting down the alley -- tunnel-vision -- instead of working the ball and the opposing player. This Cal guy sucks. That St. Mary's guy barely knows how to serve a ball -- just look how awkward his delivery is -- 0:28 and 0:45 -- and Cal is only barely beating him? He sucks!
love guys like you who make comments like this. Do you see what this guy is ranked in the info box to the right ???
Nothing wrong with that ralley at 2:34. Backhand to backhand. Probably the weaker side of both players so they are sticking to the higher % shot crosscourt. Guy in white went for a DTL and hit net. Should have been more patient.
i agree with thegarbageman, Tirelli is clearly the underdog when it comes to rankings in this match. This means he has to find a way to win this match without relaying on his strokes. If you watch ANY of their bh-to-bh rallies for that whole vid, you'll notice that Tirelli is winning most of them. This is an extremely smart strategy that Tirelli obviously put to use during this exchange which you call terrible
Jeesh . . . when I went to Cal in the mid to late 80s, and again for grad school in early 90s, we had decent teams. And, if the teams weren't that great, then the #1s would be competitive against #1s from LA and maybe Stanford. Woody Hunt, Steve Devries, Matt Lucena. Now, these guys ALL look like fricken hacks! JESUS CHRIST! That St. mary's guy obviously doesn't even know how to hit a ball -- look at his awkwardness. And Mr. Z is BARELY beating him. We SUCK!
Give me a break TAHMED78. This is Cal -- he's supposed to kick St Mary's b--u--t--t -- and he's aint -- he's bearly beating him. Jesus christ, Coach Peter. Get some damn players: this AINT Berkeley HIGH -- this is Cal. and so far we suck.
these guys have got some good strokes, i would love to have some of the feel on show here, however, they obviously do have problems making shots when they're forced.
I play Open tournaments and I must say I love your videos. Pros on tv are fun to watch but due to their skill and camera angles it's hard for most people to learn and connect. College you can actually see and understand what they are doing and see why it's being done. Maybe it's just me but thank you for your videos. I love watching them.
3:26 - 3:30 : Jesus man shouldnt of samshed that volley ! just place it other, he was at the back of the baseline no chance of getting it. Anyway good match overall for college standard.
Just wondering, whats your relationship to the Cal and Stanford tennis team? Like are you just in the area?
