@skeilak Bummer on the coffee spill. I hate to break it to you, but you're prob going to be replacing that keyboard. I've seen that happen a lot...seems to be a 50/50 split between coffee and wine!
We dropped out mini in the ocean once though...haha.
It has a 500GB HDD because I spent a lot of time traveling and shot an absurd amount of HD video. The extra space helped a lot!
I admit killing a couple IBM Model-M KB's through careless handling of gin&tonics.
But, fortunately, in the meantime, I've found new keyboards on-line, for under $20, so hopefully that will fix it before I get used to the uncomfortably vast screen real state of my laptop.
(As Dad used to say, "If they can put a man on the Moon..." You'd think a slightly water-resistant keyboard wouldn't be all that hard. *L*)
Both hinges broke on my wife's mini110 and I was having trouble getting the case apart to replace/repair the hinges. Your video was very helpful...in the near future I'm thinking of making a custom wooden outer case set out of olive wood.
thank for this video very helpful, i'm having problem with my keyboard some keys are not working and I'm using external keyboard right now. don't know how to remove it before , but now i know, thanks a lot.
@figueroavanessa Use a small flathead screwdriver and pop up the brown plastic bit where the ribbon cable connects. It has a hinge on the back part of it and will flip up pretty easy.
Can you take out individual keys? I think there is something stuck underneath my keyboard that made it very difficult to press the number 4 key, but whatever it is has now migrated to just beneath the 'g' key.
@allstar8000 You can, but it's a delicate and difficult procedure to not break them. I'd say try using bottled air (or even better an air compressor) to dislodge whatever is stuck under the key before trying to remove the key. I'm not willing to risk breaking one of my keys to make a video showing how to do it! Haha.
I have trying this for over a month just found your video and it popped right out OOOO the metal button... your the only one that mentions that THANX A LOT
@kepsux By the way, thanks for the video. Got a friend of mine who asked me to look at her computer (which has a virus on it) and I was dreading pulling the drive out till I saw this. Helped a lot.
Great video, it's of a huge help for people not to waist time in things youve never done, I can add with my experience in this matter, it is very helpful to use the corner of an old Credit card as a tool when you have to pull apart plastic parts like the LCD bezel from the top cover. It will never make any cosmetic damage to the plastic as if you use a screwdriver
Hey man. When I replaced my hard drive and rebooted my computer, I get a "windows is loading files" screen. The files load, but then it just loops back to that same screen, over and over again. Any idea on how to fix that? I can access my "Change Boot Device order" and '" Bios SETUP option" but that's it.
@Zabu425 Did the harddrive you put in the system have an operating system on it that was loaded on a different computer? That's really what this sounds like....if so you're going to be best off reloading the operating system onto the harddrive while it's in the HP. As it has no optical drive this becomes a bit of a headache, so good luck!
@kepsux Dude, that litte fan next to the HardDrive, is that the processor Fan? When i open the netbook and turn it on he doesnt spin. I also think that he doesn't spin when the keyboard is on too. Can u help me? Thanks
He's actually very good on non-computer stuff (his actual responsibility) and he really doesn't like to work on laptops or netbooks. No access to youtube allowed at work or he probably would have done the same thing I did. Thanks again.
Thanks man - you are a lifesaver. My tech at work tried for about two hours to get this thing off with no luck. I did it in about 5 minutes with your help.
when i push on the metal plate it feels like im gonna break something, i have the exact same laptop model as you should i just push harder? plz anyone respond..
@kepsux well its only the left top corner thats getting stuck and ive tried quite hard, its really not coming off.. im running a thin ruler as far down as i can, i can go about 3/4 of an inch to left but after that it will bend the plastic and not budge, im sure im gonna break something, is there any other way or what should i do, btw thnks for the quick reply.
@kepsux i also have another question for you, would this be able to help me from water damage to the keyboard? i cant use it any more because i stupidly spilled a little bit of water on it a couple days ago.
@twinskata86 Generally when you have water damage you have to replace the keyboard. You'll need to find one online probably. Then you'll have to figure out how to get the current keyboard out, without seeing what you're doing I don't really have any other advise.
Thanks for this very informative video! Laptops can be a real b!tch to open, and a lot of times you end up removing a lot of screws that really didn't need to be touched and in case of some macbooks, those screws can be of different sizes, so you have to draw diagrams etc... but only 3 screws that's not too bad at all. gonna order me a 500gig drive now :)
my hp mini 110's hard drive failed and i needed to replace it. you've saved me from tears, commiting murders, and setting buildings on fire. i feel like i need to have your babies now.
Hey so Im plannin on rebuilding my hp mini 110but I dont want to buy something that i wont be able to use so my question is what is the max hdd, max processor and max ram this comp can take? in just to make sure that was a sata hdd right? thanks for any help you guys can give :D
@ruckus2109 I can't tell you the outright max on things, but I can tell you I have 2GB of RAM, a 1.66Ghz Intel Atom N280 CPU and a 500GB hard drive in mine.
@ruckus2109 it is a sata hdd, it will only go to 2gb of ram, and the processor is embedded at the manufacturer if I am not mistaken... I dont think they can be removed..
OK, just wanted to thank you for your video demo on removing the HP Mini 110 keyboard. Owning this notebook for only a year & 4months, a lot of the keys on the board just stopped working. Argh! So I went on line & purchased a new keyboard for $25., followed your instructions, changed out my keyboard & PRESTO, it is working like new. BTW, I will NEVER buy an HP computer of any kind again. Big thanks!!!!!!
thanks mate does the decoder help with the video qaulity like the graphics card ? because i watch movies off me hard drive or me dvd player but will it help with the qaullity of the picture and that ?
@armyboybev It will help with high definition video only. If the file is not high definition you will not see a difference. If it is high definition and you do not have this card the playback will be very skippy.

o ye you know that port inside it on your other video and you called it a decorder or something what is it and what does it do ... becuase me dad an electronic engineer and hes never heard of it ...... but he hasnt touched a laptop in a few years only mine and his thats it reli and i love the hp mini 110
hi i dont suppose you know the size of the hard drive that it comes with ... i know its a 160g and 1.66ghz i ment the size as in 2.5 or something becuase i want to upgrade it but i dont know what hard drive to go in it ... would be a great help if you knew ... great vid aswell
@armyboybev The decoder card allows the playback of high definition video. It does not come with all of these laptops, as far as I know the only way to get one with the laptop is to buy it directly from HP. You can also add one if you want. They sell the cards on Ebay, but to install you have to take the machine further apart than I did in this video. The hard drive is standard 2.5inch SATA laptop drive.
@kepsux
Excellent, informative video!
Just spilled coffee on my Mini 110's keyboard, and now I'm getting no input from the board.
I hope it doesn't come to replacing the keyboard, but if it does, you saved me hours of trying to figure out how.
Many thanks!
PS: 500G HDD in yours? Nice!

Did i put it back wrong or something
Am I supposed to hear a click or anything when plugging the keyboard back in?

@Tonyx429 Typically removing the keyboard won't stop the screen from showing anything. I'm not too sure what's wrong, sorry!
