I can really give two poops about this teacher. My employer just slashed what they contribute to employee health insurance and it took a big bite out of my paycheck. I am a social worker for a non-profit agency. We don't have tenure, a union, automatic raises or a pension. We don't have jack squat. But that is my problem to deal with. No one owes me anything.

The governor can continue to go after teachers and get applause for it, but its not going to make a dent in fixing education. Are there bad teachers? Yes, just as there are bad doctors, lawyers, actors, every profession has them, thats reality. Now accepting that reality, forget about teachers and look at the real problem. Society, no value for education in the home, no fostering for learning. The governor cant change society, therefore he goes after teachers.

Teachers can have over 100 students in their classroom over the course of the day and can be sued over anything. Its not like an office job. We live in an age of frivolous lawsuits. There are many factors that go into the test scores of each state. Some states only release scores from certain student demographics, therefore scores for their state are higher than others.

In Ohio, teachers are now paid by merit which meant that those that made 60 grand are now making base pay 27 grand. Thats not a seven percent freeze to cover the bill, thats like a one third or two thirds cut. Thats wrong. Did Governor take a cut? Did Senators take a cut? no. I am a social worker for a non-profit agency. We don't have tenure, a union, automatic raises or a pension. We don't have jack squat. But that is my problem to deal with. No one owes me anything.

Teachers are the biggest whiners of any employee category. Just cut their pay in half or greater and be done with it. Most of them are unemployable in the real working world.

Teachers uses the summer months to go to school to either further their degrees or take classes to keep their certificates renewed. Do you think the "rich" getting "rich" while being stupid? They will move their money, assets, or even themselves to where they can get bigger difference for their revenue vs tax.

There was and is no connection at all between tax reduction and the sub-prime mortgage crash. You have to be crazier than Nancy Pelosi to even suggest that.
There is no lack of tax revenue. While it's reduced by the crash, the amount of reduction is minuscule when compared to the increase in spending during Obama administration.

The governor can continue to go after teachers and get applause for it, but its not going to make a dent in fixing education. Are there bad teachers? Yes, just as there are bad doctors, lawyers, actors, every profession has them, thats reality. Now accepting that reality, forget about teachers and look at the real problem. Society, no value for education in the home, no fostering for learning. The governor cant change society, therefore he goes after teachers.

@nilofc I am not really an advocate of unions, I only belong to one, as all teachers do, for legal protection only. Teachers can have over 100 students in their classroom over the course of the day and can be sued over anything. Its not like an office job. We live in an age of frivolous lawsuits. The single thing Christie can do to help education is stop the government waste of money in education.

@circusmaximus10 i don't disagree with him wanting teachers to contribute to healthcare, i disagree with him and other governors continuously using teachers as scapegoats for every problem affecting education. There are many factors that go into the test scores of each state. Some states only release scores from certain student demographics, therefore scores for their state are higher than others.

@henryoil yes that I agree with. He said a pay freeze for one year would solve the problem. So why then did they go to merit pay? He lied. In Ohio, teachers are now paid by merit which meant that those that made 60 grand are now making base pay 27 grand. Thats not a seven percent freeze to cover the bill, thats like a one third or two thirds cut. Thats wrong. Did Governor take a cut? Did Senators take a cut? no. I realize times are hard, but teachers are not the reason why.Got2b better way.

@nilofc Where is the outcry for the inflated salaries of administrators, superintendents, board members, where the outcry over the waste of $40,000 of taxpayer money to fund trips for principals to useless seminars at plush hotels. That's enough to pay the salary of a teacher that they lay off. Those are the things the governor should be targeting. The government wastes money on education and then want to punish teachers.

This woman is an ART teacher - forgot her name, it's on another video, though. She has a small internet business. She's just another teacher's union hack. No one would think Christie has "lambasted" the schools - he's made it clear the whole time the teachers' unions are the ones being difficult. People like her and the teachers' unions don't care about the taxpaying parents or the students. If she's such a good teacher, she can go work for a private school.

@miazagora Most teachers would love to go to a private school, no discipline problems, no red tape, supportive parents, they can actually teach, but private schools dont pay, otherwise you would not have any teachers in public schools. The governor wants to pay teachers less, but put more on their plate and at the same expects greater results. His solution for fixing education is to make it so unattractive no one would want to pursue a teaching career.
