yeah this wasnt a very good swing. he still does this from time to time...even off the tee with his 3 wood. ive hit shots like this before...feels like ass. steep and off the toe
I know what he is doing wrong. His swing is pretty steep but his main problem is the separation between his left arm and his chest. If he kept his left arm more out in "front" of his chest he wouldn't be taking such big divots and he would be hitting it more flush and probably a few yards longer than normal.
My mate told me that there is a rare sextape on the internet featuring Tiger Woods, Ryan Giggs and a 19 year hooker from Barbados that loves DPs. I've been trying to find it for the past 2 hours, fuck! Anybody know anything about this?
I love how it's just a video of a larger than usual divot... yet when I look down at the comments there's these heated debates that are just hilarious. They like try to sound all correct and shit. Gotta love youtube.
Sure the head drops in all the long hitting greats. There is no way it can't. I was pointing out that the divot was abnormally large. It was just a statement of fact. Learn a little toleration of different opinions. FYI-Tiger's head doesn't just go down. It falls back too, and that is dangerous. Wayne Defrancesco said so.
@majorbama601 Ok but I was merely pointing out that it was abnormally large due to the ground conditions, which is also a statement of fact. I am tolerant of different opinions but I guess I am tired of hearing people harp on this. By the way I have not seen any footage where his head falls back. Was that on Wayne's site? I know Fowler does this quite a bit...
@majorbama601 I checked some video - your contention that he falls back is not correct. As a matter of fact, the video I saw shows LESS 'falling back' action now then from years ago. Also, he 'compresses' as much now as he has ever done. Clearly this is not the panacea for any of his issues. I should think that fact that his healthy and able to practice for the first time in ages, we will see a revived Tiger this year. Most of it is getting his touch back in his short game.
1) ground was wet. that's what happens sometimes. I take normal divots but have taken huge beaver pelts in wet conditions. Also, he was obviously hitting a fade and had a steeper than usual angle.
2) tired of people talking about the head drop. Hogan, Miller, Trevino - all the great ball strikers did it or do it. wayne defrancesco points it out quite well on his website. go and educate yourselves!
@donmcd71 No, Tiger's head drops way more than Hogan, Miller etc. It's what causes his increasingly common flare-outs to the right, because it makes his swing so steep.
I would've expected his head-drop to have been the first thing Foley would've eradicated, which makes me think the supposed 'swing overhaul' is being massively exagerated by the media (& Tiger) to excuse his continuing poor play.
And I say this as a huge admirer of Tiger - I wish he'd hurry up and start winning again!! .
@MrAJR76 I respectfully disagree with you on all counts! Miller dropped his head a ton. Hogan dropped down as well and fought a hook for most of his early life, so i don't buy your cause/effect. Why would Foley want to rid Tiger of a swing trait that all great ball strikers exhibit?
Just because he has a steep angle of attack doesn't mean he's fading it. In fact the more you hit down on the ball, the more your path is sent out to the right.
@donmcd71 No it isn't. Hitting down on the ball moves the bottom of the swing arc forward, hence you're hitting more out at the ball. Trackman has proven it. google "the secret of the straight shot, trackman" if you don't believe me. This is why Tiger is trying to swing left now, because his attack angle is steep. It's different for every club too. For a 6 iron every 2 degrees down produces 1 degree of outward club path. For a driver it is a 1:1 ratio.
@michaeljames92 wouldn't that depend on your swing path? Tiger is definitely hitting down on this ball as evidenced by the huge divot, and the divot pattern goes immediately left.
Yes but attack angle is added on to the swing path. e.g. lets say his club is 6 degrees out-in and he is hitting down on it at 7 degrees. That means the horizontal swing plane is more or less 1 degree in-out. Also, because the club impacts the ball on the backside of the circle(club is still moving down) not front side(which causes the divot aiming left), the divot is not always an indication of where the ball is going. Most players divots go left unless path is ridiculously right.
@michaeljames92 That's a different argument - you are now talking in relative terms. You can hit down on the ball and change your swing path from out to in. Your statement would make sense if you said "all things equal" or something similar... In any event I still didn't get your point. I was basing the fade on swing path, not divot.
@donmcd71 But you also said "he was obviously hitting a fade and had a steeper than usual angle." Which to me, implies that fade have steeper angles of attack, which is not always the case. However, if you meant he was just steeper than usual for this shot(not necessarily because its a fade but because he was just steep) then I apologise.
