He's just underplaying. He hits the floor tom a couple times near the end of the song, but other than that he doesn't leave the snare/hi-hat/crash. Purely groove, no variation. He has a couple decent bass grooves that he uses throughout the song... but it's the fact that he uses them throughout the entire song. Wears it out.

I'm sure he could play more interesting stuff... I am just curious as to why he doesn't.

I see what your saying in that he uses the same pattern almost the whole song. but my guess is that this is one of those songs (a badass song if i must say so myself) that show off the pure creative talent of the whole band put together. That pattern or beat is what the band called on him to do to fit the song the best and it works. They have 2 whole albums so im sure their is a few songs where the drumming is more of centerpeice. Love the band anyhow
