The only thing out there in space that warrants attention is the solar radiation and mass ejections from the Sun which should be peaking in 2011-2012. This works on 11 year cycles and it will be rougher than usual if the right flare gets projected towards Earth. I've been told this is why they are working hard on the space station to protect it from such things. We'll see!

I read in a paper that it would be one of the most intense peaks since the 1800s and if a strong enough solar flare occurred it could wipe out huge portions of our energy grids which would inevitably cause mayhem and many many deaths in countries relying on electricity.
