I soooo miss hearing Charlie Rogers announce "The Sound of the Southland" as we marched on the field. He was a superior band director who led Mosley to many a victories! I miss those days! MHS band, 94-98
mosley was never great musically or functionaly, but always had great shows cause they had energy and had fun. we always new the band director was a loser but the band worked around that and the best shows with what they had. also rodney dasinger always said he wanted to direct yall cuase he thought yall were better. being a section leader at rutherford i heard this alot, also my girlfriend at the time was in this band.
Charlie was a great band director and you really show your class speaking ill of the dead. But what do you expect from rutherford. I respect Mr. Dasinger and would never post such crap even though your shows were dull and unimaginative. I guess we could make your up, back, side to side drill look good too.

Yes, they were a little off....I'm in this video, too! Great memories though! Checkered flags, chained flags (for unchained melody) too funny! The following year was great, too, so if anyone has video from 93-94 please post.
Omg you gus picz. were so cool, I lov them and the trmpet solo on the 2nd song cool!!! I'm in marching band and i lov it. Yall r the best lov yall OMG!!!!!
nice formations! The Exeter Township High school is doing motown this year and we are doing " get ready, my girl, respect, ill be there, papa ant a rolling stone, i herd it through the grapevine, and aint no moutain high enough". we have a little comdey in our show. and some singing as well! ONCE AGAIN NICE JOB!
I was a senior too that year. Marched drumline. That was probably our best show of the year. Maines (percussion judge) gave us something like a 97 on that show.
To whoever posted this, thanks for the stroll down memory lane. I haven't heard or seen this show since 1992. Dang 15 years goes by quickly.
Thanks. I am guessing that Mr. B is the director there now and if that is correct I have one question, how would he know that it wasn't a good year? I am an alumni of that band and it was a great year. The show rocked and was fun to perform every time.
Mr. Barfield was the director for years at Mosley and was the best they ever had! Sadly he passed away a few years ago from cancer. I am not sure if that is the Mr. B you refer to???
I agree with tomaz that it is just as rediculous to see a band running around like they are going to piss themselves. Its not racist to say the real reason that hbcu bands get air play is because they cause they resemble a minstrel show. I will retract "coon". How about I just do it how all the other blacks talk on their posts? "Look at them niggaz.they b sportn dis dat duh etc... dey niggaz(short for nigger)da shit
The current Marianna band director is playing the trombone solo around minute 5:50 in the song.
I can't believe this is actually on youtube. I was a senior that year and still remember that contest very well. We got best in show that year. Definately one of our better years.
"Ya'll dont". So I guess you are black and the white man cant play. you can have loud unique or whatever you call it.the media loves it because they get a bunch of coons jumping around like an old minstel show. If you cant defend your argument, it always goes back to "its part of our culture".
we been playing them for years and still do, its part of our culture. look up NSU, Hampton, Famu JSU, and some high schools, St Aug Highland Springs, Henrico SWD, Redan.
"showstyle bands" havent played motown for years. Now its just playing as loud as you can with no regard for intonation or quality sound. Blast away and bump and grind. BCC being one of the exceptions.
and SWDHS,Huffman, IC Norcom, as for playing loud thats wut makes US unique. the fans love it. even the media loves us. being that we are always on TV on ESPN ( look for Famu 8 min show at Superbowl) Football Video Games, Music videos, MOVIES, ect. ect. ect.
At 1:47 my mom starting cheering cause she was on the Velvet Knights when they did that show and she felt all inspirational

All these bitter Bay High and Rutherford High are classless.. We should all support each other to make Bay County a great place for band.
