Being a hunter and avid fan of the works of bernard heuvelman and ivan t sanderson and studier of irish lore can say the dobhar chu of legend is what is known as the "king otter" that can be 5-7 feet long. Though rare it does occur in nature. Quite a prize in the hunting world- Ireland does happen to have one documented death at the hands of a king otter.

I thought this might be a fake... but then I reasoned: 'what possible ulterior motive could a hotel owner in a remote part of the country have in starting a rumour about a lake monster?'. and concluded it must be real.
