Hey everyone, our recently launched music blog has a post about late-era Talk Talk we’re trying to get out there and hope you might enjoy. Just search SongStacks on Twitter.
where IS mr. hollis these days? did he ever settle down, have kids and chill on his laurels?...or is he still a little brilliant nightmare making magic in a studio somewhere?
The dutch interviewers name is Adam Curry. He's one of the most shitty so called music experts in Holland. Actually he doesn't know a damn about music. He speaks with a terrible american tongue cause he's a wannabee american and therefore utterly pathetic.
Yes, i realy can't stand this emptyhead.
If i was AND Mark Hollis AND a hairy specimen, i would certainly rub my ass into his face !

Adam Curry speaks with an "American tongue" because he is American. He was born in the D.C. Metro area and raised (mostly) in Holland. And it's not that Curry doesn't know a lot about music, he doesn't give a fuck and in this instance, I don't blame him. If I had a music talk show and everytime I tried to interview a guest, they start doin' that pretentious "Don't talk to me. I'm an artist" bullshit, I wouldn't give a fuck either.
"they start doin' that pretentious "Don't talk to me. I'm an artist" bullshit," Wtf? That's not MH at all! Hes just very introverted, hates the spotlight - has anyone even heard from him at all in the past 10 years???
Kurt Cobain hated giving interviews too: look at him, reached the top of the world, then killed himself: couldn't stand the attention. He just wanted to make music. All TRUE artists think that way - interviews are beside the point, it's all about the MUSIC. HOLLIS IS A GENIUS

To me, there is a subtle difference between art and music. I use music to deliver messages/tell stories/give commentary, therefore I am not an artist. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of Talk Talk, but I call it as I see it. If I go on a show in which the format involves giving a brief interview, I'd at least show the courtesy of answering a few simple questions. Cobain may have hated interviews, but I never saw him do something like that. I just found the whole display to be bit rude, is all.
I think it differs if you don't know the situation. A sit down interview is different to answering questions on stage, particularly in a foreign country.
Mark Hollis introverted? You don't know him, do you? Infact he is very assertive, not shy at all. Maybe he does not like to be in the frontline, that's right. But not introverted. In the end of the Talk Talk period he just got pissed off by many off the press. In one way it was EMI that want him to be on TV shows and made him do things he did not like to do anymore, and the other hand the press that saw music only as something for the kids and not to be taken seriously.
@bolderiks Actually, I'd like to set the record straight (even after 2 years). The interviewer's name is Wessel van Diepen and back then he was quite good! I can totally understand his reaction, but it's funny to watch :)
Thank you so much for this video. Mark Hollis appears just like he is : true to himself. As he wouldn't play the role of the one who like to be interviewed he doesn't fake to be scared of being asked about his work or himself. Such a fidelity to what one is, this absence of mask, is too rare.
Then, I don't understand german, but I think that the speakers are laughing about the name Talk Talk while they refuse to say a word...
@nicolasmetensis first of all, it's dutch not german. They are laughing because the interviewer asks himself how to deal with this awkward situation.
I think it's impolite to refuse an interview in this kind of live situation. I can imagine that after a while, when you get the same questions over and over again, it becomes quite boring, but still, it's because people are interested.
Nevertheless, Talk Talk is one of my favorite bands all time, because of their music, not their speeches.
@nicolasmetensis It is actually Dutch. The commentators are mostly commenting on how 'he's just not saying anything' 'These guys are (asphyxiated)' implying that they cant speak and then the interviewer asks 'how do i save myself here?'
Can someone translate what the presenters are saying? I'm so intrigued and was hoping someone could write it out, what the one presenter in the coral shirt says then the three at the very end. I believe it's Danish yes?

Danish it's not ! But he says "Spraaksam" or how it is written, think that's "talkative" in Dutch. Some Dutch-speaking people can help maybe ?
