Nice to read that you are as impressed as many others about the latest performances of Dame Shirley. It really all restarted since she recorded The Living Tree and with her performance of John Miles' "Music " at the Royal Venue. Dame Shirley was magic and still is magic. un abrazo Hugo
They should just re-do the title sequence on every Blu-Ray and DVD they sell from now on. I'd buy it again just for that reason - and love not having to fast forward through the titles. They could even give the husks who did the original 0.01% of the royalties and they'll still be doing well - off the back of someone with genuine talent!
One of my favourites from her new album. Dreadful shame it was not used on Quantum of Solace. Though would i be mistaken to say the album came out after the bond film.
Listen to the Bridge, that Mediterranean motif, very similar to all the scenes with Vesper in Venice, and the echoey vocals, like Water rippling, the final resting place for Vesper...
I'm an unconditional fan of Dame Shirley. Do not understand why this song was rejected for the latest James Bond film "Quantum of Solace". The theme that was used will never last. It would have been wonderful for Shirley that after the succes of her latest CD she also could have been (for the 4 th)THE REEL JAMES BOND THEME PERFORMANCE. Stupid choise what concerns the film producers.
This is what they should have used for Quantum Of Solace - much, much better than that pile of utter crap by White and Keys! Good to hear Dame Shirley's still got the magic!
This should have been used for Quantum Of Solace - so, so much better than that pile of garbage by White and Keys! Good to hear Dame Shirley's still got the magic!
I guess I shouldn't be surprised that the great Shirley Bassey sounds as great as ever...but I am...WOW...the most "Bond-esque" of her new songs...love you Shirley!
This should have been a James Bond theme. Shirley Bassey's voice is perfectly suited for a Bond theme. She is one of the best female vocalists who can still hit those high notes and can still sing with feeling after all these years. What a fruitful and long career she has had! And what is surprising is that she is in her 70's and she is still going strong!
Dame Shirley Bassey voice is so powerful and she is the original Bond Girl. Shirley should sing all the Bond Theme Songs. The rest of the singers just trying to catch up with the Dame.
Yes and the stunning thing is that she sounds even better live. Watch Electric proms on youtube then you understand. She still gives me shivers and tears when she perfoms today. She will be 73 in january, I know that this is near impossible too do at that age. She´s one of a kind.
As far as im concerned, this is the bond theme for QoS. I regard another way to die as a complete none entity. When i think of Daniel Craigs run as Bond, and i think about his films, this song will be synonimous with QoS and nothing else.
Bond fans who really liked the film 'Quantum Of Solace' said that this song doesn't fit the actual film. I would like to rephrase that: The entire film should have fitted this marvellous Bond theme! I hope Barbara Brocolli and Michael G. Wilson get some creative control back to David Arnold!
Again: A tearjerking, fantastic Bond ballad. Love it!
what a brilliant song, reminds me the first bond themes, especially "from russia with love". it definitly contains the bond note and the taste of old bond charme.
This song captures the blood and very essence of what a James Bond theme is. When I heard David Arnold and Shirley Bassey were teaming up, I immediately thought of 007. To make it even better we have Don Black as the lyricist. The producers hired a composer who understands Bond music and each time they disagree with what direction the music should go the true fans suffer. Even though it may not be 100% true, many of you will agree that this is the true theme to Quantum of Solace.
with regard to The Performance album - i have never bought an album where i play every track in sequence cos they are all so good. We mustn't criticise the song that was used because there are so many reasons why the title song is chosen - i hope that Mr Arnold gets to compose the song and the score for Bond 23 because it so much a part of the great tradition that the brilliant John Barry created and Mr Arnold's songs are terrific
The voice, the sound makes you think of a Bond movie. Its one of those sounds that hits you and makes you think of the Bond themes of the 60s. This should have been the theme song, no doubt. Not that wasteful and rubbish song that the producers went for. It will be a song long to be forgotten alongside the others.
i started on ideas for the song during QOS, hence the string line that opens the song, only a couple of lines, once jack and alicia came on board, we didn't do anything else. When asked to produce Shirley Basseys album, myself and Don finished it for her"
@hisgreatnessthez the use of the Word "Solace" and the very Mediterranean sound in the bridge "I'll never be yours..." seemingly Vesper speaking to Bond, who died in the Mediterranean. Also the tremolo at that part sounds like the musical equivalent of rippling water.
Not only does this song live on the score used in QoS, and frequently use the word solace, which personally isn't a word often found in conversation. Let's look at the title.. "No good about goodbye". QoS is all about 007 moving on from the pain from Vesper.. I'm pretty convinced that is must have been in the running, coincidence like this just doesn't happen.
We're not knocking the song! That's not what we're moaning about. We all really wanted this to be the official Bond film song because it's perfect! It's original and not too bassy. Just pure Bassey :]
Also I love the way David Arnold said it sounds like Quantum beause of the opening string line. EVEN THOUGH THAT SAME PIECE OF MUSIC IS THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE SONG! AND THE FACT SHE SAID SOLACE OVER AND OVER AGAIN AND SAYS ABOUT CONSEQUENCES FOR YOU ACTIONS
I like it, if she did it, or at least someone with a great voice this song would be amazing, and make it a bit more intense and exciting. But i love it so far.
Another reason to be disappointed in "Quantum". This should've been the theme...but like the movie, Michael and Barbara sold out to the Jason Bourne/5 second attention span movie-going audience instead of sticking to what works! This song's not perfect but anything Dame Bassey sings that has that Bond melody/lyric to it is excellent...especially compared to Jack White!
From the sounds of the music, I assume that this was what David Arnold wanted to be the main title of Quantum of Solace. He produced this album and used the main tune of this all throughout QoS, so I don't think it's that big of a stretch.
While this song isn't the best Bassey has ever done, like with TND, Arnold'd proposed song is a hundred times better than the track cobbled together by a popular artist(s) that the producers have chosen.
Too damn right, they had this theme which is perfect and I personally think this would have def been in the top 5 best Bond themes!! Why did they choose them tits who pretty much shout to sing?????? That was the worst bit about going to see Quantum over and over again! Having to sit through that crap. I love this song!

This song reminds me of John Barry's song from the movie Deadfall, called My Love Has Two Faces---by Dame Shirley also!
Not picking this song was one of many mistakes Marc Forster made with Quantum of Solace. Jack White's song was childish compared to this.
Great job----Shirley, David, & Don!!!!!!!!!!

How the FUCK come this not be the theme for QoS? At least then the S wouldn't stand for Shitpile.
