Why the fuck has everyone so much complains about recent music. I like the music from the 50s! But this shit about mixing and electronic and stuff... come on you can't be serious. When they've recorded this, they used the most modern recording equipment. This development continued roughly till the years of Punk or hardcore, in the 90s: Lo-Fi and Indie. The years of huge production were the 70s and 80s, the 60s were a lot more experimental and don't say the 50s are just raw and therefore good!
It's more about the actual quality of the music as it is written. Good lyrics, great sound, and in this case a great performer. Nowadays it's mostly just people spouting 5th-grade-level nonsense set to generic beats and strumming highly predictable chords. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of songs now that are virtually identical.
He did another version of this song on Columbia in the late 60s or early 70s, where he played the intro and solo on guitar. What a great song this is....
@Pickinbuddy Pretty sure THIS is that version. If the only other version is Sun.. this sure as hell ain't it. Sun had a very distinct sound that was unmistakable. As to that, this a very obviously a stereo recording. This was definately recorded in the 60's. Beautiful song though. Never heard it before.
@teddibearsworld Hi Ted--No this is not that version! I have the lp it's on "Columbia Limited Edition" label. The album title is "Carl Perkins Greatest Hits" LE 10117 He plays the intro of the song on guitar, AND the entire lead in the middle, instead of the short piano 'turn around' intro on this record. It's a good bit LESS "Nashville-ized" than this version, and has a lot more 'edge'!
You are certainly right! I am only 30, but, because my folks married in 1958, I was brought up on this amazing music, this IS MUSIC, what we have now is crap, electronic crap. There is no mixing to this, it's take after take after take till they liked it!! Awesome, beautiful song!!
