  • Aaroncake for president.

  • that's a job DAMN well done

now that you have that car and the numbers to show for get used to cyber haters

  • @BalkanBoyUSA This video is actually quite old and the tune shown was mainly a crude WOT tune. I did a bit more tuning a few weeks later and found about 20 more HP top end with a vastly improved midrange. Then later on I turned the boost to 16 PSI and put down over 500 RWHP. Most of those "haters" are driving NAs that struggle to make 130 RWHP.

  • @aaroncake Are u running NA rotors too or are they turbo rotors? megasquirt? I know u aussies can get higher octane than us in the USA. u rock aaroncake!

  • @badpoultryfuel Yes, S4 NA rotors, and a Microtech LT8s. I run 91 octane.

  • @aaroncake So you didn't have any problem running 16psi and 500 hp on 91 octane? That is an awesome car, and i love your megasquirt write up, thanks for putting that together, it was really helpful for me. Now i need to save up some money for some more toys :) I want to do a mid engined rotary next i've been thinking.

  • @badpoultryfuel No issues even with the high compression rotors but this, as they say, isn't my first rodeo. I wouldn't recommend everyone take this approach because it is 100% custom. Though there won't be any reason not to make 400 RWHP reliably on 91 octane (10 degrees of timing at full boost, 15 degrees split, 11:1 AFRs) on 91 octane using a 13B-T/REW. I've built many such setups that all run fine. Tuning is always the key.

  • @aaroncake on you're write yup about spacing the intake manifold about 2.5 inches were you talking about the stock N/A or did you use the tii intake?

Would the N/A manifold work with the boost?, I found a kit that claims too clear the intake manifold but I'm not so sure

  • @rayvdub The exhaust manifold was spaced out 2.5" to clear the stock NA lower intake. If you reread the writeup on my website, it covers all of this fully. Note that the turbo setup in this video is totally different than that shown in my original turbo-NA writeup where the spacer was used.

  • hey what computer are u running ???

  • @XxX1rW1nXxX Microtech LT8s.

  • Hey Aaroncake, did you make that manifold or buy it?

  • @rotaryturbo88 I built the intake manifold. And the exhaust manifold.

  • @aaroncake ever thought about making some and selling them?

  • @rotaryturbo88 The intake manifold is built specifically for this engine and porting combination, so it wouldn't be of much use to anyone else. Plus, few people would be willing to put up the $1500 it would cost .

  • not sure how that will work out and how well it will run why not just use a s5 block

  • @akademiks604bc There is only one reason I can think of why the S5 block is superior, and since my car is tuned properly, this reason will never come into play. You should also note the date of the video when saying you don't know how it will work out, because you're a little late to the party. The car was run at just over 400 RWHP for 2 years, and this past year the boost turned up to just over 500 RWHP.

  • @aaroncake ya but thaty is nothing i had a stock t2 pulling well over 809 whp with stock throdle body and drive train on a stock s5 block

  • @akademiks604bc I don't see how any of that is relevant. It is obvious that I had no intentions of building an 800HP car. Really, I don't understand your point. You tell me that I couldn't have built the car I obviously did, then you say it should have been S5 because, well, why again? Then you tell me that you made an 800HP T2, when just a few days ago you couldn't imagine how "how ur gonna get that done".

  • turbo n/a means what u u put a turbo to an s4 block??

  • @akademiks604bc Yes. It is a 6 port S4 NA block with a custom turbo setup.

  • @akademiks604bc id have to call bs on that untill i c it cause i work on rx7s all day long and not sure how ur gonna get that done

  • @akademiks604bc Yeah, well, you're wrong. Just Google "aaron cake project tina" and enjoy reading.

  • sounds sick. love it

  • GJ dude on ur car

  • Nice work... that thing would be fun in the hills...

  • Can't wait to turbo my 87 6 port n/a or at least get a port job.

  • wow i love it great lookin car and nice power hopefully soon i will be there

  • Sounds like the boost comes on pretty early. very nice.

  • How did you build that motor other than the porting? I am cuurently undertaking a similar project except for the porting.

  • Google "aaroncake project tina" and you will find all related information. The engine is a 6 port 13B with small bridgeport, Atkins apex seals, 3 window bearings, Weber jet oil mod and shimmed oil pressure regulator.

  • How much did it cost you to go from na to turbo? Im looking to do this

  • I can't answer this question because I did a lot of work at the same time that is far more then the typical TII swap.

  • I vouch for aaroncake, I also am a member of rx7club and I will state that this project took a very long time, and it's awesome to see it in action. If you search around the internet there's a very comprehensive write up of this whole project. The FC community owes ya one!

  • just a question how do you have a Turbo NA rx-7?? thats like... what???

  • It is an NA RX-7 with a turbo added. As opposed to swapping in the Turbo II drivetrain.

  • bud you cant have a tubo NA car. its turbo/supercharged or N/A man lol you can turbo a naturally asperated eclipse and its no longer N/A its now Turbo you simply have a Turbo-RX7 not a TurboII thats what you mean.

  • Since the TII is generally referred to as just "the turbo" when talking about 2nd gen RX-7s, it's handy to say "turbo-NA" as a way of communicating that the car was previously an NA car. When that's said, an RX-7 person instantly knows that it's just not another TII swap and is instead a turbo 6 port, which is a completely different setup. Turbocharging the NA RX-7 is not generally done. I pretty much started the trend about 8 years ago, though I was not the first.

  • your starting a trend of False information. i hang out in RX-7 forums i even posted this around. its a false statement most people refer to rx-7s as TurboII or Turbo-RX-7 to get technical back to eclipse. a Turbo GS is NOT a GS-T. thats how you need to refer to this. whatever make you have you need to state that make and add "Turbo" to the end. the thread is getting alot of uproar just so you know lol btw man beautiful machine. amazing car

  • Please don't ever accuse me of spreading misinformation. That's about the worst thing someone can say to me because I pride myself on being correct 100% of the time. Now, I guess it depends where you hang out whether people say "turbo", "TII", "Turbo II" or whatever. But the fact remains that when someone says "turbo 2nd gen", it is generally understood that they are referring to the TII. It's easy to say "turbo-NA" because "turbo 6 port" doesn't roll off the tongue and "turbo-NA"....continued..

  • ...continued...communicates that it was once and NA car that has now been turbocharged. Regardless of what you think, in the past 8 years you are the only person who has ever questioned my use of the term "turbo-NA". By the way, I do happen to hang out in a few RX-7 forums. Search RX-7 Club for my name. I don't know anything about Eclipses. I don't know what GS or GS-T is.

  • @34SkiLLz14Luck you are just misinformed.. if you knew ANYTHING about this project you would know why it's referred to as a turbo-na

  • not bad... you kinda look like garth from waynes world too

  • What are you building it for? Auto-x, drag, being able to say, "I did it."?

  • All of the above. I also drive it regularly to work...

  • DAMN Nice sounding rx7 here...

  • Hey Aaron, check your message box.

  • Nice build, looks like it's going to be very healthy. :)

  • I'm glad to see your project is working out well, My project is coming up soon and I wish to have the same luck. Did you stick with the N/A drive line... gearbox, rear, etc?

  • Yes, I am using the complete NA drivetrain.

  • How well is that holding up for you? Im on a S5 N/A with 86k(on car) 95k on trans(atx -> mtx) and its about shot.

  • No problems so far.

  • the dude in the long hair looks freaky....

  • nice....two questions. did you port the intake and throttle body? what's a/r ratio on the GT40R did you go with?

  • The intake manifold is totally custom, and the throttle body is a 75MM aftermarket unit by Edlebrock. The GT40R is running a 1.06 hotside.

  • This is pretty neat Aaron! I used to run an S5 in my FB but that ate a seal... now I'm thinking about a 12a-turbo. Any recommendations on how you arrived at the GT40R? Also your calcs for intake plenum volume?

  • And you're running single throttle too, aren't you? Any problems with fuel atomization / intake velocity at idle? Your injectors are stock on the center iron and in bungs on secondaries?

  • I picked the GT40R because the 35R was too small, and the 42R was too big. At the time there was no 4094 available so I went with the 4088 which is probably the best choice considering the 4094 will be laggier. The compressor map of the 4088 showed its reasonably efficient at all the boost levels I intend to run (13-18 PSI or so).

  • Yes, that's a single throttle body. I've had no problems with hesitation at low throttles an off idle. It's just all in the tuning. The large plenum keeps the air flowing and I've just added more fuel via the accelerator "pump". The primaries are located in the middle iron, and the secondaries are on the secondary intake runners like the stock setup.

  • Boost in, apex seals out.

  • The same creative comment made on one of my other videos. How witty and informative. Clearly this demonstrates knowledge with the rotary that anyone else on the planet would be just crazy to question. Congratulations on your boundless knowledge and the intelligent remarks you bring to the conversation.

  • Arron I was gone from the forum for a long time and I am glad to see that your project turned out as well as it did.

How well do you think your intake is working and do you think there is anything you would change about it.

  • The intake has worked out well. It drives easily, makes good torque down low and has a very flat torque curve. There are a number of things I would like to change but there isn't enough room here to cover them.

  • Cool mullet Aaron!!!! :)

  • Thanks. :-)

  • you turbo'd an NA block? i thought you couldnt do that due to the exhaust and intake ports on the block. how in the hell did you do it?

  • There's no reason this can't be done. Just requires some fabrication and knowledge.

  • well good job on it.

did it involve welding and machining the housing or just the manifolds and other parts in the turbo set up?

  • Virtually every part on the engine was fabricated. Intake manifold, exhaust manifold, turbo setup, etc. The block itself is a stock NA block, just with some porting (bridge...).

  • Nice, I love your work Aaron !!

I have a TII exhaust VMIC and intake but stock engine.

I´m dreaming of once building up a turbo charged peripheral 2 rotor for hill climbing races.

  • awesome car

  • damn that thing is a monster aaroncake (wil87 from teh club)
