  • The issue regarding the straightness of back or waist gets back to the interpretation of Standing straight(立身中正)。Some masters insist that the spine has to be straight and to stay vertical to the ground. Some traditional Yang's master, like YSC, adopt a different theory. Spine can be straight when releasing the energy(發勁),but allow the flexibility for tail spine to extend forward(收尾履 提腰 吸丹田) when accumulating the energy or changing direction。Viewer can check YSC's student Ma Weihuan's video.

  • Rubbish

  • Yang Sau cheung had two true disciples:

Ip Tai Tak who staid 29 years with YSC and Ginsoon Chu who worked about 4 years with YSC.

Chu King Hung has never been accepted as a true disciple by the Yang's. He was still in probation when YSC died in 1985. No picture of discipleship. After the death of YSC, he was authorized to use the title of disciple only for business reasons.

  • 含胸拔背 is a way to soften the rear upper neck area. This teacher's neck stick out like a stiff pole. Regardness of his age, his neck is not correct for a taichi master. His dad got the same problem during the younger days, but his neck got much softened on his later year judging from photos.

I appologize for the mistake on his age, he did live to 75 years old.

  • He was not in 70s, I think that he died quite young. However, he was living in war time and practicing taichi would be difficult as one would have to live a day at a time to survive the harshness of Japanese armys and starvation.

  • Age has nothing to do with it. A good taichi practioner could maintain a flexible back til he died. Since I practiced taichi, my lowerback is much more flexible than I was thirty years ago. I am in my mid 50s.

  • His lower back is extremely stiff. He would not able to neutralize an attacking force effectively.

  • He is already 70. He is not in his top posititon.

  • Thank you for sharing this video. This one open my mind somethings. At least, I won't stubborn at that all the forms should look some kind position any more(as teachers-instructers said). I wish when I get to my seventys, I still can play Tai Ji Quan smoothly.

  • 看上去有点恐怖!

  • 柳州有杨拳传人在雀山公园八卦阵。

  • The most important thing is the connection. The connection/energy can still be there if the back is not straight as long as the tail bone is tucked in to ensure the successful linkage between legs and back.

  • Seventy Years Old! Amazing, I could not do as good when I was senteen !

  • It is so funny that he did a lot that were supposed to be wrong.

  • What do you think is wrong.

  • He dis not straight up the neck and the head.

He did not straight up the body from the waist.

In fact, he slouch a lot!

But look at the kicking, you can tell that he is really *good* in martial arts.

Anyway, whatever he did must be *correct*, he is the master of masters. (Like it or not;-)

  • Actually, you're somewhat wrong. If you look at more traditional books written in 民國 era, you can see the traditional forms 彎腰 a lot in different locations. The 陳微明太極全圖 and 楊澄甫's early pictures recorded in 陳微明's 《太極拳術》 clearly shows that. You can also look for 董英傑's videos on youtube, you'll find similar thing.

  • The traditional form is a lot differnet from the current generally promoted forms in terms of 彎腰、不「正」. But if 許禹生's 《太極拳圖解》,陳微明's 《太極拳術》,and 吳家老架 all shows the same kind of characteristics, you clearly sees that it's exactly what they learn, teaches, and practises, passed down from their ancestor/teachers who actually fight everywhere for their name and for their life (some of them, in some situations, at least).
