First of all great video. 2ndly holy shit i didnt think there'd be sooo many salmon at that spot. I know where that is and i usually go there in the spring for the bows. And as much as people thing its easy to catch these fish and fight them its not. I personally fight them for the sport. Float rods and reels using 6 - 8 lb test line and size 12 or 10 hooks. My biceps are detroyed. Keep it up and good luck out there. FISH ON!
Okay, first off, the dude fighting this fish snagged it near the dorsal fin, not in the mouth. At least he released the fish. Second, if you want to catch these fish, use a lure, not bait. Coho are the most aggressive fish and will strike at objects that annoy them. These coho are also close to spawning and their flesh is most likely close to inedible. The only value would be the roe, which judging by the type of people fishing there, is the primary goal.
I know exactly where this is and Its a shame people are even aloud to fish there. I've seen guys gutting the females and just kicking the males back in without proper release and watch them float downstream because there so exausted from being snagged and reeled in when they should have been broken off in the first place from being foul hooked.
When your fishing pools like this with so many people, you either floss the fish or piss them off enough into striking. Either way I frown upon people fishing fish in pools like this, Shame on you.
@frenzyon88 trust me its not as easy as shooting fish in a barrel. Nevermind the fact you're only using 6-8# test. I personally did not land a single trout or salmon so far this year though I've probably hooked up with over a dozen.
