  • Cool I'm gonna go buy this kit - oh yeah wait... I'll need about EIGHT GRAND for this set-up. Yeah thats right, most drummers have 10's of thousands of pounds in the bank to spend on what is a necessary trade tool. How incredibly irrelevant Rolands entry point is to the Market. Come on Roland, help us drummers out by making your kits affordable as yes, we do want them and we do want a decent set-up that we can gig with. But we don't want to have sell a kidney and a child to get one.

  • starting at 1:00 reminds me of a level from goldeneye

  • drum raping @

    1:49

  • It¨s a pity no big drummers sponsors this kit->

    watch?v=YpjZWujoTDY

  • great fucking sound effects. i have a roland kit and wish i never bought it. its good for one thing... sounding anything like drums

  • While nothing can beat the acoustic kits, electric kits can bring a whole different dimension to percussion playing, and drummers like Omar Hakim and Bill Bruford prove that. Electric kits shouldn't sound so much like real kits, they should have their own unique sounds so as to make itself stand out.

  • electric drums are a great practice tool, recording tool and lots of fun. But ofcourse nothing beats the sound and look of the real drums.

  • Amazing ... Master + + + + + ... That's all !

  • he kix azz with al di meola, too.

  • In diesem Video

    TD-9 V-Drum Performance by Michael Shack (1/2)

spielt Michael Shack das "Ambient Kit" genau so!

Für meinen Geschmack spielt es Michael S. viiiiel besser!

    MfG

  • I CAN DRUM LIKE THIS WITH MY EYES CLOSED!!!!!!......no really, thats usually the way my eyes are when I'm dreaming.

  • this is fucking awesome, he got so happy once he got to the metal part lol!

check out my video too, its sweet sounding electric drum set on a funky melodious setting

  • this is fucking awesome, he got so happy once he got to the metal part lol!

check out my video too, its sweet sounding electric drum set on a funky melodious setting

  • Omar Hakim = Legend

  • search: Amorphic drum .....( 1st video result ).

    what technique is this??

  • hippie

  • what a freak.. looks just wrong when he does that drumming at 2:00..

  • @musicnab Who gives a crap about what people look like when they are drumming

  • no snare buzz, otherwise sounds great!

  • i dont personally care for this kick because is too much reflex bounce. Other than that the set is fine.

  • This video doesnt suggest V-drums are better than acoustic, nor does it suggest Omar uses only V-drums. Its just a video of what Omar sounds like playing V-drums. Omar can make 5-gallon buckets sound good. I own both V-drums and acoustic and I enjoy both sets the same. V-drums especially when my wife is asleep.

  • i like Omar but i think people who plays electronic drums cheats. It takes so much pounding to do this on a real kit while you can actually sleep and still be able to drum on an electronic set.

  • aww mann that beat at 4:31 is the kind of stuff my teacher is having me do....except slightly less baked....this solo is so cool!

  • if you like music you probably like at least one song with synthetic drums. thats reason alone to appreciate these. its not like the government is debating whether they should outlaw acoustic drums, so why even have sides? i play guitar and no one bitches about electric or acoustic or effects pedals and shit, we just do whatever we need to do to get the sound we want.

  • I not a Drummer but I knew he got his sh-t off at 3:45. Thanks for the post!

  • TREMENDA BATA Y TREMENDO BATERO

  • I think anyone who complains about V-Drums not sounding or responding like acoustic drums is a moron.

If you want acoustic drums, use acoustic drums.

But some people are not stuck in the past, holding onto the idea that a 'good' sound is the sound of acoustic 'Rock' drums we've all heard thousands, if not millions, of times before.

Some people want to embrace the new sounds and new possibilities that V-Drums allow and do their own thing, not imitate others.

  • gay

  • mantap..!!!

  • RLY AWESOME!!!!!!!

  • I think people that bang on about vdrums not being the same as acoustic sound like a broken record.

I couldn't practice enough if i didn't have the vdrums - i simply cannot practice on the acoustic kit for any prolonged period - My neighbors would call the police. You can hear me playing the acoustic kit at the end of my street.

They serve their purpose : quiet practice with reasonable realism.

The whole elec vs acoustic debate is completely pointless.

  • @djbarnat well the debate is often about what is better overall as an instrument. Pretty much the debate boils down to which of the 2 you should own, and tht is all personal preference

  • Yeah I also play on these drums every Sunday, and there not the best. There's alot of sound mess ups. Real drums are much better for live performances.

  • im no drummer just a recording and mixing engineer. Acoustic may sound better but what about mics what about the room by the time your done it cost way more to record an acoustic drum set. Hands down i'd rather be recording one of these. You will always get a perfect sound out regardless of the room. Electric drums for recording HANDS DOWN! I'm bout to go buy one now haha!

  • I play a set of these every Sunday and have for the last 3 or 4 months. Needless to say Im not having fun anymore. Everyone in I have talked to who listens tell me they sound canned like a fill button for the drum beat on a keyboard. They rob you of dynamic and individual character. I cant speak to recording studios but for live performance...they stink. Like everyone else observes..a blast to fool around with. The only purpose this kit serves well is practice at home. Live gigs need live drums.

  • And yes they are the Roland V-Drums

  • couldnt agree with you more. It's also a lot harder to control your dynamics I find and the cymbals dont blend well. The drums just sound...fake. They all in all just sound like a crappy little MIDI beat

  • Of course acoustics are better.

But when money and space do not permit you to have an acoustic, then electronic is the way to go. :D

  • acoustics better. But Electric kits are FANTASTIC if you live in an apartment or have bitchy neighbors (=

  • @benciano Also the nice thing about electric kits is you can directly connect it to a mixer or mic-input to directly record which is very nice compared to acoustic kits where you need to balance out the sounds individually.

But seriously, electric kits have come a long way. Of course acoustic are still better, but I mean electric kits are coming really close.

  • I feel acoustic is way better, BUT these are a blast to fool around on.... and its great to surprise people with crazy sounds that are entirely up to you. :-)

  • doesnt rly matter what you give him...as long as he has some sticks in his hands, he'll rock your socks off =9

  • @cooksmc i agree

  • Comment removed

  • groovy

  • Simply Perfect!

  • He is seen as one of the worlds greatest along with Manu katche and Jeff Porcaro.

  • That's some nice playing.

  • Shaddup ridiculous and comical elitist pig-dog. Who claimed electric kits were ever going to replace drums? What a douchey. I bet there were similar fools who said the same thing when electric guitars started becoming more common half a century ago. What a dunce. Instruments are simply tools. But some buffoons let their specific brand/type of instrument define them as a person. Silly. And it's far more silly when those who say such things arent very accomplished players to boot.

  • @eggbertsmith oh gosh relax cant we all just enjoy omars drumming? i once got to play one of his drumsets

  • @eggbertsmith What was elitist about the statement electronic kits were to replace the acoustic? (which I don't agree with) Do you even know what the word means?

  • wow you know nothing about electronic drums...

  • Ahhhh, thank you for correcting me guitarist!

  • yeah i also play drums.... i'm about to get a Roland TD-9 soon and i have played both acoustic and electronic drums..... just watch the TD-9 NAMM video..... you can put feel in it.... as long as you get Roland :D

  • i have the same kit :D

  • thats a pretty awesome kit. i like acoostic kits but thats really cool

  • i love this kit...... i use it for recording and it sounds amazing......

  • Its a demo of a pieece of equipment. The demo showed what the piece can do and that is that.

If you don't like his style say that, but to insinuate that Omar Hakim doesn't know what he's doing or has run out of ideas or is bored is a bit of a stretch. As far as the digital drummers taking Omar as their champion against acoustic drums, well you only have to look at Omar's body of work to know that he plays more acoustic than digital and has done over many years for many top names.

  • i think if i had a child i would trade it for this kit.

  • hahahahahaha

  • right there with you man. it was the first kit i played, i can't ever move on.

  • @hock3ydud3 Sell it, you could buy a better one :)

  • @hock3ydud3 lol you'd sell your child for $5,000?

  • @hock3ydud3 evil.

  • I cant believe u just said that

  • in many ways i agree

  • agreed.

  • now tell us what you really think lol

  • Hakimazing

  • bass drum is awesome at 1:33-2:17

  • Below was at RonnyD95...who aparently is too good for electric sets

  • very very nice

  • whoa dope he plays break beats like jojo mayer

  • This dude is amazing!

  • does anyone own a set?

  • macben....yea I own a set, TDS 12, had them about 4 years, great fun, great set...Use them daily. Don't use them alot on the gig though, when just the brain is $1000 or more you don't want to be leaving the stuff in the club.

  • nice.. mine dad own too td 12.. its very good set :) i have normal drum set :)

  • 1:50 .. the trigger light must flash some red! lol

  • the electronic drums sound pretty dam good, just dont expect the respect of people who play traditional drums

  • its just jealousy :)

Acoustic guys r always enveous of vdrum players cause their sets don't have the versatility...:)

  • Thats the dumbest thing ive ever heard. Most people who have electric sets have acoustic sets. You still need to ahev the chops and know how to play drums. Some of us live in apartments where its hard to play or practice.

Closed minded morons lose my respect...

  • the limb independence and technique hakim is showing in this video is as difficult whether you are playing on pots and pans or a normal drum kit

  • What a great promo for the V-drums.

  • 1:50 Coooollll

  • Check RHYTHMTANDEM.

  • the part from 1:31 is fucking amazing!!!

  • the jam he plays at :57 is siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiick!!!!!

  • Are ALL the sounds we hear available on the Roland TD-20? Are the imported samples? Anybody know? I have the TD-10 and the GODSEND for that is the EZ-Drummer & the Addictive Drums. I use those software programs from the TD-10 to a MacBook and it works GREAT!!

  • Agree with this totally. The Roland is for practice and recording so I wish i had just bought a TD6 as Ez-Drummer etc make it obsolete. May as well get a bottom end Roland and save a bundle I say.

  • Ive played one time a kid like this and it was just great...as long as you dont want a kit that sound acoustic.

But otherwise theres so much inspiration in this drums and it plays nearly from itself.

I loved it but i wont get the money for it in 5 years...

  • Hi guys!

What a shame such an extraordinary musician doing this kind of crap. This sounds plastic from the very first minute and it's obvious O.Hakim does this for the sake of money.I would do the same;he has is personal(good)taste and i bet the first thing he does when he goes back home is washing his ears and sit in a proper(real)kit.Thank God!

By the way:i've heard there's a rare video of Steve Gadd playing in a big paper box or sorter and kickin'ass.Does anybody knows about it?

  • God forbid a musician make a little money from all his hard work...

  • What are you talking about? Those drums sounded great. Granted, i'm not a drummer, but that's too harsh. Electronic drums can do amazing things, especially with metal cymbals, i think only smartrigger can sell them cuz of their patent. I'll be getting the low end Roland vdrum kit soon, so I can learn drumming and sequence myself without using pads(as in finger pads). For anyone doing what I do, electronic is much better than acoustic. Acoustic will always be best for acoustic purposes though.

  • What does it matter if he is playing an electric kit. Bang a drum or a bucket, its all the same. If you can wail on a electric kit its obvious you can play a conventional set. I have to go along with Stickinthemud57, post up or....you get it.

  • AWESOME

  • Pretty cool but it would have sounded better if he was playing that stuff on a real kit.

  • I disagree.

He could not have played what he played on a "real" kit. It would have required he have a lot of different kits assembled and moved around from one to the other. He was also doing things with the variable tuning features of the TD20 that simply are not possible with an ordinary accoustic kit.

  • What the fuck do you mean by "ordinary aCCoustic kit"?

That's one of the reason I hate mother fuckin v-drums. Room-only players.

  • Vulgarity, pedantry, ignorance, and intolerance. Pretty good for just 2-1/2 sentences.

Acoustic kit as opposed to electronic kit. Could it be you really are that dense?

"Room-only players"? Like Neil Peart, Jason Bittner, Thomas Lang, Gregg Bisonette, other top pros and countless other pro musicians who use Vdrums?

Can the vulgarity and grow up. Electronic drums are here to stay. BTW, what venues have you played lately? I'd like to see any videos you might have posted.

  • Nice said Stickin! i'm gonna buy an eletronic kit.

Neil Peart rules!!! If he uses, i'll use it!

  • Go for it Julio!

Of course Peart uses acoustics as do all the others I mentioned. The point is, edrums have opened up new ways to be creative, just like electronic keyboards did. No one claims these sound like a real grand piano or a pipe organ, it just makes it possible for the average person to have access to those sounds.

  • No, I mean, acoustic kits rocks, I'm new to drums (play guitar actually), but Rush is my fav. band, and i've played rock band for almost an year now and i'm so in to drums that i'm considering becoming a drummer. Just have ordered my TD-6 today (actually buying it from a friend). I live in an apartment and can't afford to play acoustic drums, besides, seems like we can mod the roland to use it with rock band. Now that rocks!!

  • it makes it possible for you you to be a little girl too

  • Well said, I've got Reason now for my Keyboard, personally I think it sounds really darn close (really comes down to the speakers), but I'm able to spend 400 bucks for a program, and get extremely high quality multi-sampled instruments of pretty much every instrument ever made :P

  • I think I'm going to rape you.

  • Now that's not very neighborly talk, pardner.

  • the future of drumming is on electronic kits

  • Room-only players? let's talk about tuning for a bit. tuning acoustics can take five minutes or take thirty (depending on what you require soundwise). also...you have virtually twenty kits at your call at any time. you can't do that with an acoustic. I love acoustics (i have one set of acoustic and one set of digitals) for the money and the upkeep (not to mention time and sound requirements or constraits) you can't beat digitals.

  • dude what are you saying!!?!!omar hakim is an AMAZING DRUMMER!!

  • Im just not a fan of his style at all. I think drummers like Vinnie, Gary husband and tony williams are just more to my liking

Like this beat at 1:06 is good because its groove but come on thats easy

  • this isn't one of his good solos..you should check out some other ones..his technique is excellent...that you have to agree with...but favorite drummer would be Derek Roddy..or even Tomas Haake

  • anyone selling a roland td6 with mesh snare please contact me thanks

  • if youve ever herd of long and mcquade the cary every roland item in current existance

  • what kindda roland drum is it?

  • roland td 20

  • es un dioss!

  • I wonder did people get so annoying when the electric guitar was invented?

Good god cant we have both? I could find a place for electronic drums in my playing aswell as my acoustics.

  • i dont know man people are going so hard on electric drums,i love drums and i can't play loud because of the people in the complex, does this ronald set feel like the acoustic?

  • I dont actually own one, But yes, they do.

The cymbals feel slightly different but not very. You could adjust quite easily.

  • I don't think the jump was so dramatic as to go from an old acoustic so some BC Rich monstrosity with millions of pedals and giant stacks. The changes in drums have been quicker but who cares, eh? I'll stick to the "natural" way cos that's enough for me.

  • This man played in weather report , a band that along the way has included jazz legends such as Wayne Shorter, Joe Zawinful, Airto Moreira etc etc.

David Bowie, Sting, Madonna, Miles Davis and many others have chosen him for their bands. Make no mistake, Omar is world class.

  • he's only demonstrating the level that electric kits have reached an the versatility of this specific instrument, so don't expect to be overly impressed by this type of video; it's a demonstration for this v-drum models' release. his live gigs are much better to watch to see him play to his full potential. I've had the pleasure of seeing him play live and he is extremely able and talented, i only wish i could see a gig with him playing alongside satriani on guitar, I'd be lost for words :)

  • This guy blows my mind.

  • the rock part from 1"30 is amazing, simply amazing

  • HELL OF A FOOT

    VERY NICE

  • something wrong about this, really great playing but the tone of the drums sounds like they were sampled~

  • Yeah I think now yamaha as a better sound out of the box, but Roland gives you more sound and physical options, but requires a lot of work to make them sound good!!

  • dude who cares if you get a kick ass drummer come play a solo do you think the ppl listning are gona care wat sorta kit there on

  • dont hate on buddy just because he has his own opinion. frankly i agree with him electric sets are fine and all but its the trade...the business man nothing beats throwing down some solid licks on a well tuned set with some crisp cymbals rubber pads cant come anywhere CLOSE to that

  • Guess who just found their new favorite drummer?

    I did.

  • 4 1/2 min. in, best kit sound IMO

  • freaky man

  • His grove - feeling is f*cking amazing..

  • The drums on Billie Jean were by Leon "Ndugu" Chancler

  • i love the second beat about 1 minute into the song

  • me too

  • what band is omar from?

  • He played in Weather Report!

  • and Chic

  • and madonna

  • Sting

  • EVERYTHING BUT THE GIRL

  • that guy`s friggan sick i wish i had that drum set i like his crazy fills too

  • Did you know Hakim played the drums on MJ's "Billie Jean"?

  • These things are so easy to play, you feel like a pro when you're on them. Good for small spaces and at home cause you get a clean sound with adjustable volume. But live shows acoustic sets are better.

  • I dislike electronic set, they will never replace a living sound!

  • That's because the samples in this are crap, wait till you hear DFH Superior or Addictive Drums.

  • I do agree with you, but you can get a great sound from the V-drums! Check out my videos, I edited some of the sounds and eq'd them using the onboard mixer and stuff. Came pretty close to the original recorded drums! I think they are amazing kits... IMO of course!

  • esse cara toca demais

    vixxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

    humilho mermão

    toca muito msmo

pena que no começo veio uns ritmos meio que chatos mas o que vc toca é impressionante

  • Yep, they still sound electric - maybe good for rap beats.

Roland's gotten good with the velocity sensitivity/changes but the timbre never really changes like it does on an acoustic kit.

Nothing beats playing on a real set of drums.

  • I love omar on a real kit this sounds shit

  • if they do it's his fault. they are capable of much more accoustic realism, but he's a goof with them... mine sounded great.

  • wow I love how he like almost never uses the cymbal but it still sound awesome in the fills! I gotta get to learning some more fills that don't involve cymbals as much b/c they sound super cool!

  • cool ending at the first theme!

  • A ture talent and very under rated, one of my top 5 drummers.

  • he could make any kit look natural.

certanaly one of the best drummers i've ever seen.

  • That drumset seems to have it all. Omar plays them really well too. I wonder if they really feel natural, or if Omar just makes it look natural.

  • i have a roland fer my dad's but a real set fer my mom's cuz my dad lives in like an aprtment and i gotta say that i like the roland v a lot but i hope i doesnt take place of the real sets in the future

  • no man, THÉ Best drummer in the world

    peace

  • One of the best drummers in the world

  • Heres the benifit of V-drums, they clean up alot of your playing so you don't hit the rims, but then your ears get sensitive.

  • The V-Drums actualy have rimshots.

  • Yeah but thats for the higher end models, the low ends make you play one surface at a time.

  • the only weakness o these drums are the cymbals sounds... too synthetic

  • Omar is just...Omar.Would like to see him at his best with this drumset but promotion and doing your job to be paid goes first.

  • i like his shoes

  • roland v-drum td-20 thats wat i
