Yeah, I'm trying to teach myself and I'm 16 which made me a bit wary as I started the piano at about 8 years so I thought it might be too late really, but because I could play the piano, read music, sight read (um, sort of, reasonably well...) etc. I only got it two days ago and have progressed quite far in the time; further than I'd expected at least.
I suppose your comment was a while ago, but don't worry about it being "too late".
I started playing guitar at sixteen, and now, three years later, I can play stuff from Rush and Metallica. Two years ago I started bass, and in the past year or so, I started piano and cello, and now I'm starting violin.
As long as you put the work into it, you can be a great player, don't worry about how old you are, but how motivated you are.

do you think learning to play the violin at age of 16 is too late?
