I am convinced that Tomoya has the greatest family ever. Ushio is perfect, Nagisa is adorable, even his in-laws love him. His dad is great too, apparently.

I think Ushio is very kawaii, but you'd think she would have gotten SOME traits from Tomoya, I mean, she has no features from Tomoya at all. She doesn't even seem to have any personality traits from him, she doesn't seem to look or act like Tomoya at all. I really wish the creators would have given her SOME traits from Tomoya. =/
@Hdave95 I am a korean, and average-wise, you can find just as many shitty korean dramas as shitty japanese animtaions or vice versa. But I cannot think of ANY Korean drama that matches animations based on KEY Visual Novels. Simply these are one of a kind, and the most touching thing out there. I have loved KEY ever since 2004 and cant help loving it even more as days go by.
Tomoya's a bit of a git towards his daughter. And you'd think after him and his fathers relationship he'd want to be closer to Ushio, no matter what -.-

Ushio is adorable!!! ^^ I don't like how Tomoya keeps snapping at her. :( I understand because he's devastated of what happened to Nagisa but that doesn't mean he should keep treating his daughter like that. At least he gets much better later on. He goes from "Oh you hurt yourself. Well don't run in the house next time.That was your own fault." To "Are you alright darling? Come here, I'll make you feel better" So you can see how much Tomoya has changed in such a short time :)
@boffinme80 yeah, I'd love raise such a darling child like Ushio, except I wouldn't want my child to die, that would probably ruin my life, especialy if my wife were to die like Nagisa did. I'd hate to have my child not know his dead mother because explaining that to my child would be sad. I just love kids, I have helped to raise kids in the past and end up kind of like a relative or an older brother to them, but when get older it's a bit difficult, but thats what it's like to be a parent.

@MoonGodess157 Considering what happened, I don't exactly blame him. But he does change, again. The scene with him and Ushio in the grass field and on the train back were definitely emotional highlights in After Story. Tomoya's one of the most round characters I've seen.
is it just me or does every scene with Ushio make me cry. I swear ever episode from 12 and up made me shed a tear or with some of the exceptions made me cry a life time worths in just 1 scene.

1. This is all a dream Tomoya was having after Nagisa gave birth to Ushio.
2. The "lights" that the town they live have performed a miracle and Nagisa came back to life, well It is like time returned before she died and the lights prevented it from happening. (for me this is the more convincing explanation)
IDK if there is more explanations but these 2 were the only one that came to mind.

@Rick4ever1234 The most widely accepted answer that most of my friends and I stick to is that the orbs of light that Tomoya gets are earned from helping people out, like Shima the cat, the rivalring gangs, and Fuko and her sister. When Tomoya finally gets enough the orbs of light, they miracolously reverse back time to when Nagisa gives birth but then she survives. It's like so amazing how it's hidden. Tomoya helps so many people out without ever realizing it, and it all pays in the end. =)

I knew that If it wasn't a dream the lights had something to do with it, but I didn't know nor I thinked about how the help that Tomoya gave would be the reason of existence of the lights. It's actually a genius setting from the game. In the first part of game you have to make different choices and try to finish all storylines with different girls just like any ordinary AVG game; but only after you have collected enough light orbs from all storylines can unlock the second part of the game which is the Afterstory. It has been revealed that every time you start a new game Tomoya is actually time travelling back to the day when he first time met nagisa in school.
So if you look back to the first episode in the anime when Tomoya first time talks to nagisa, the work of camera is actually giving out a hint of starting a new timeline paradox that refers to the first choice in the game (should Tomoya talk to Nagisa?) So twinroaxas is right. The fact is Nagisa was dead in the orginal timeline, but with the help of Ushio from the otherworld, Tomoya could travel back to the beginning (with amnesia however) to collect light orbs and save nagisa.
@szezone Wow you know a lot 'bout it. Have you seen it more than once? I saw it once and I cried alot so I didn't dare to watch it again haha ;) Clannad was very interesting to watch since it shows romance and also a lot of hidden or different conceptions you can make when you finish seeing it. When I heard about the whole time travel, paradox, light orbs I was stupefied.
Some hints of time travelling or paradox in the story:
10. Both Tomoya and Nagisa always remember the story of robot and girl
11. In the end, right after Ushio said goodbye to Tomoya in the otherworld, Tomoya was again sent back to the day when he first met Nagisa, but for that last time both he and Nagisa could still had their previous memories remained.
12. The alternative endings with Tomoyo or Kyou in the anime's bonus are actually realities from other time paradoxes
8. Ushio died > her soul became the main source of energy and supporter to the otherworld > with more power, the town’s soul were able to send Tomoya back to the past and get his help to collect more orbs for itself
After time paradox ( time travelling might repeat more than once in loops):
9. Tomoya collected enough orbs for town's soul >town's soul is now finally strong > able to save Nagisa when she was giving birth to Oshio + release of Oshio from the otherworld

LOL I’m just a film buff and I’ve watched it only once but the whole story has left marks in my heart already. Besides emotion, a good story must also make sense to me so I could be able to know what and how I’ll learn from it; so I went through some articles and thoughts on Clannad, and I found the whole story’s logic is just as beautiful as the emotion itself. I think even if sumone spoiled the whole clannad series for me it still wont effect me. cuz its not the storyline thats important, its the experience n pleasure thru this anime. its like telling sumone how it was like going on a roller coaster, u wont rly no how it feels until u actually go on it. LOL I’m just a film buff and I’ve watched it only once but the whole story has left marks in my heart already. Besides emotion, a good story must also make sense to me so I could be able to know what and how I’ll learn from it; so I went through some articles and thoughts on Clannad, and I found the whole story’s logic is just as beautiful as the emotion itself. I wanted to explain more but there is limitation of words on reply, so I'll try explaining it in bullet-forms.

@TokioHotelVampireLuv Yah, and drinking too :> Notice he is reacting the (almost) the same way his dad did. They have the same situation, spouse died and a kid to look after. Only Ushio ended up with her grand parents while Tomoya didn't.

I think even if sumone spoiled the whole clannad series for me it still wont effect me. cuz its not the storyline thats important, its the experience n pleasure thru this anime. its like telling sumone how it was like going on a roller coaster, u wont rly no how it feels until u actually go on it. This anime is a must watch
