A stone's throw from Jerusalem I walked a lonely mile in the moonlight And though a million stars were shining My heart was lost on a distant planet That whirls around the April moon Whirling in an arc of sadness I'm lost without you I'm lost without you Though all my kingdoms turn to sand And fall into the sea I'm mad about you I'm mad about you
razmisljam da je prevedem skroz i da je postujem ovde za one koji mozda ne mogu da se skontaju najbolje..pesma je ali mnogooo dobra..da ne kazem do jaja!:)
And from the dark secluded valleys I heard the ancient songs of sadness But every step I thought of you Every footstep only you And every star a grain of sand The leavings of a dried up ocean Tell me, how much longer? How much longer? ... And I have never in my life Felt more alone than I do now Although I claim dominations over all I see It means nothing to me There are no victories In all our histories, without love
The lyrics, the music, everything's right about this song!
It reminds me of sites in Egypt, like Tell el Amarna where kings built their monuments, which are now in ruins. (well, it's further away than a stone's throw from Jerusalem, of course;))
And every star a grain of sand The leavings of a dried up ocean Tell me, how much longer? how much longer? They say a city in the desert lies The vanity of an ancient king But the city lies in broken pieces Where the wind howls and the vultures sing These are the works of man This is the sun of our ambition It would make a prison of my life If you become anothers wife With every prison blown to dust My enemies walk free Im mad about you Im mad about you
Yes, Sting said it is about King David seeing Bathsheba as she bathed. He found out she was married to Uriah (spelling?) one of his men, so he had Uriah sent to the front lines of the war he was waging at the time. Uriah was, conveniently, killed in battle. Of their union, King Solomon was born.
There is no clarinet in this, it's Branford Marsalis' tenor sax.
Actually, the first child of David and Bathsheba died of illness in infancy. Solomon was their second son. Song's great though, and Branford Marsalis is still a master.
Not sure of the context of your chat, but soon as I saw biblical references, I got interested. Mad About You could just as well have been written by Solomon, eh? (with music by David:) Very much out of the book of Ecclesiastes--which sobers me up whenever I read it--and for the better. Love and relationships and God are FOREVER; everything else we chase after dissolves into sand, sinks into the sea. Anyhow, I love this song and always will...
It is hard to make up my mind on which of Stings song is my favourite, he is so genius. But what I know is that this morning I was listening to an old tape that included most of his memorable hits of the 1980s. Of all those terrific songs, Mad About You remained in my subconscious mind, so I couldnt resist coming to YouTube this evening to find it.
My mother went to this show, the Soul Cages tour, when i was a mere 6 weeks old. I only wish I could have come with her. sting is paramount, The Police only slightly less so. Anyone who thinks differently can FUCK OFF. That is all.....
Can you people believe that the Blender website put Sting #1 on their "Top 40 Worst Lyricists In Rock"? Yep! "Mountainous pomposity, cloying spirituality, ham-handed metaphors", they call it.

For real, Blender is nothing more than another mag hybrid of MTV and Yahoo Gossip columns. That said, Stapp may be a bit of an egomaniac, but his lyrics aren't THAT bad. They say a lot about the man, they are full of confusion and sadness, and if you really read into them, only a few of them hold an appreciation for any kind of deity.
Sting is a master of lyrics. Blender, once again, is full of a bunch of hipster morons who's concept of lyrical ingenuity is a Kimya Dawson piece.
I got wowed out big time in Venice when I heard, in a supermarket, Sting sing this tune in Italian. Got me more high than a trip down the grand canal!
