Thanks Steve, for the suggested Apps. I've downloaded them, they are great! "Seoul Bus" is really amazing by it's functionality. WOW. I'm looking forward to my visit in October 2011.
For all those, who are afraid of high roaming-charges: there's an App named "Seoul Offline Map" - it also includes an offline subway-map.
@ArshavinatorTheTres Wi-Fi hotspots are all over the place here and in most subway stations. Also, the app is great when checking bus times when at home and knowing when you need to leave for the stop.
I'm not surprised that some people are going to Korea after having watched your videos. Great enthousiasm, interesting and handy facts and nice views. All of that and more. It's mainly your entousiasm that made me a regular viewer, but you almost convinced me to visit Korea at least once and if/when I will, your videos will surely come in handy!
@MrJingjong Summer can be hot or humid... but if you're heading to the Pinas, then I'd say the fall is the best time! Please let me know when you're going to be here!
Buses aren't much a problem anyway are they? They're SO frequent. Here, they are hourly until around 5pm and then finish, and the time table is about reliable as the atkins diet. sigh.
@ABombs1 True that they're frequent. But when it's raining, you can call up the app and know when you have to leave your house to make it to the stop just in time and avoid prolonged rain exposure!
@daewooparts well it makes more sense when you know how korean society and the workforce works. it's not necessarily an advanced thing, but Koreans work the longest in OECD countries. service is considered important in a lot of places, and the land is small (South Korea is half the size of WA state) so transportation is a bit easier to plan and manage
@tokee1234567 i know korea ,i live there too and worked there from the 90's till mid 2000's,its just also people are just to lazy in the states to bother making these apps for themselves or it would cost way too much because of kickbacks with the public transportation sector with american politics and big corporations, they are just starting to use the paypass system on the NYCT busses just recently, they been in korea in the late 90's
@daewooparts it's more than being lazy I think. infrastructure and public services cost a lot of money, esp since the US is like much more bigger than Korea. In Canada. transportation is okay managed. the buses are slow as hell but it's what they can afford to have. so it just really depends. From living in the US I can tell that gov't don't spend money on public services and people don't pay high taxes (Koreans pay almost as much taxes as Canadians if you compare the actual stats)

Wouldnt be much use using an ipod touch because you would only have access to the apps when in a wi-fi hotspot.
