Follow the analogy...Shane McGowan is to Bill Monroe as Bluegrass is to Irish Pub Punk. Shane will forever be a legend.
The brilliance...just think a few years before he was hanging out with Sid Vicious, Billy Idol and Paul Simonon. So here is a guy who stood at the starting line of punk and created (with the Pougues all) a style of music which lives forth,(i.e. Flogging Molly, Great Big Sea).
Jem Finer has developed his own unique style of banjo playing over his years with the Pogues. The next time you get a chance to hear them live listen for the drive . A lot of it is coming via Mr. Finer. Brilliant really.
Stop it. Why always judge and compair. He is Shane, he was always gonna turn out like he did. And he is happy with it so, whay are you packin' on about it.
My hubby looks like Shane did in his youth, and behaves like him. only he's got three So I know what I have coming of my own great Irishman. And I can't wait. Fuck conformity!!!
Seeing Shane at this way and seeing him today - it really hurts! How he looks here and plays the guitar...
I think everyone should be happy that he was able to be such a musican and write such unbelivable songs, but there's always a tear in my eye, when I think of him today...
@JanBasler I don't understand why people find it sad, or why you have a "tear in your eye" when Shan is doing exactly what he wants with his life. Also, Shane still sings great, so no need to be sad.
Hey, can anybody tell me something about the way the drummer plays the drums? He only seems to hit the standing tom and the snare-drum. Is he also kicking the bass-drum when he hits the standing tom? And I can´t hear any cymbals...
I can remember watching this - the audience amazed me! They were all stood there going like "wtf?"
There has been nothing like this band either before or since, a perfect example of how English pop culture and Irish folk culture can blend into something truly remarkable.
I remember looking at this live! I could not believe what I was seeing, the version of Irish music that was new, punk & the auld ones did`nt get it. I got all Pogued up went into Drogheda and got locked after looking at this. Happy days!
he's not fucking miming dickbag; in converting from pal to ntsc to a format suitable for streaming there's some syncing problems. nothing compared to the 'syncing' feeling i get when i read shit like that.
Can someone tell me how the singer was able to become so ugly ??! And why doesn't he get teeths anymore ?! That's strange... !!! He frightens me now !
How come every single video on youtube that has the pogues in it has to have that one douchebag who thinks he's making some clever unique remark about Shane's teeth?
Given Shane's lifestyle it seems the less of the evils to approve those types of remarks, I've not approved other remarks that are just as true and more damning. I'd prefer that folks would stick to Shane's excellent performances, or how tight the band is, in fact I'd like to see more comments focusing on the rest of the band who is generally ignored and passed over. They were brilliant in DC.....
Is there a betetr version of this on here anywhere ?
THis is what i was looking for .I remeber seeing this. I was about 12 or 14? or 15 eaven , What year was it ? I have loved them evr since for more than 20 years
this copy sux cause i had to convert the PAL to NTSC... once again it's us fat lazy yanks to the rescue since no one over there has seen fit to upload a better copy. i think i might still have the euro one which is probably 2-3 times better than this plus just loading it to youtube takes it down a few notches.
Absolute 100% quality. Nuff said!!!
