Actually, none of these steps are necessary. I all you really need are facts 2, 6, 10, 11, and 13. 6, 10, and 11 knock three options out by what they smoke. 2 knocks out the swede and 13 states that the german doesn't smoke one of the other brands (and because he's the german, he isn't the swede) so he must own the fish.

By 4:33 in the video, you're left with the options of the Dane and his/her tea in either the blue or white house, the Swede and his/her dogs in the green or white house and the German in either the white, green or blue house. My question is: How in the world did you know to go straight for the Dane without testing the other potential outcomes? This took me DAYS!

We gave this to our psychology professor at the uni, he looks at it for 3 seconds and says: the German. We asked him how the hell did he know. He said it's really easy - Einstein created this puzzle and he was german. Therefore it's logical that his nation plays an eminent role in this puzzle :)

There is no fucking fish! you guys missed the whole point of this riddle. . . the unknown animal was never defined to be the fish so i could be anything (rabbit, donkey, ect). If the unknown animal is a fish then you are correct and the riddle is trivial, the point is to recognize that fact.

It is not given merely by the question! It asked for who owned the fish, which is vague enough, and the German could own anything. The answer would then be nobody, but it would still fit the clues. It is by assumption (oh how I hate that word) that you say the fish must be there because it is in the question.

I opened excel and created a table, it's perfectly logical! I started filling it out slowly, and ended up reaching the same answer: the German, who smokes Prince, lives in the green house and drinks coffee has the fish.

It was hard, took me 15 minutes, but at least I can say I DID IT!
