@humanbear logistics in warfare are just as if not more important than boots on the ground. So shut the fuck up and be glad there is an airforce fighting for your fat ass.
WOW!..amazing video! Those CDS drops are incredible! It's like TWO Starlifters worth of cargo all in one shot! I was hip-deep involved with "Provide Comfort" back in '91 and we sure could have used the C-17 back then..take care and stay safe!! From a vet now living in Taiwan.
You guys have one of the best jobs, and definitely the best views ever. Without a doubt the coolest and most impressive Air Force in existence. I won't belittle the RAF (I'm a Brit, if you hadn't already guessed), But it doesn't have that 'Wow' factor that the USAF has, mainly due to the lack of funding and also that of a lack of political will or foresight to see that a strong military is a necessity. Especially with this stunt Cameron insists on pulling with the Current Libya situation...
@thatman64 It is a pretty fantastic job! Thanks for the comments. My Brit friends that I have met along the way definitely work with what they've got and do a great job. Cameron doesn't seem to have learned much from Blair, though. That's for sure. ;)
@TradeMark2003 Not too sure about the failure rate on these 'chutes. I have heard that the ones from my other video (Airdrop 2010) have a failure rate of about 10%. Don't know how true that is, though!
I'd like to say that the USAF deployments are not nearly as long as the Army or USMC. Usually 6 months unless someone can volunteer for another deployment.
I would caution you to remember OPSEC when posting video's or replying to comments as some of this information is not necessarily available to the general public. Nice footage nonetheless
I was kinda curious, how long does it take out of basic before you are qualified for air drops? Do you have to have like your 5-level or will you be randomly trained into it out of tech school?

i am shipping out to bmt in 10 days to be a loadmaster
i have a question what are the rules about videotaping on the job i see alot of poeple with videos and i was wondering how the airforce feels about it
is there any regulations for the order of dropping dual row, like dropping the left row first, then the right, or can you drop both rows at the same time?
Just in case you didn't know, these are all CDS and you can drop them all at the same time. It all depends on what you plan for beforehand. There is another kind of drop that we do called Dual Row and it is dropping actual platforms that fill the entire cargo compartment. Those you have to drop left side first. Unfortunately (fortunately for me, I hate it) dual row is not allowed right now because of our aircraft's current limitations with the locks.
Thanks for the clarification. Are you stationed, in the states, at CAFB? I ask because CAFB seems to do most of the lifting across the seas.
The airdrops look fun, and judging by the beginning of the video, it looks like you were < 3K MSL, most likely low-speed. Do you guys use drogues to pull the loads out?
@thomas997 I'm stationed over in McChord AFB and supplemented the Charleston guys while they were deployed just so I could get a few drops in. We're doing all the airdrops with McChord crews nowadays, though. The drogues are only used for heavy platform airdrops. CDS bundle airdrops only require the automatic release/cutting of strap gates and a little bit of gravity with increased deck angle.
Absolutely, I am there more than I am in my own house. Especially these days. It's basically like being deployed my entire life. I love it and I hate it at the same time.
Do you have any footage of MRE's being dropped as individual packets like it was done over Bosnia back in 1993? Need to get that to the White House so they can order it done over Haiti.
I'll be sure to look around for it and I'll let you know if I find anything. Haven't heard of people doing that in Afghanistan as of lately, but I'm sure there is footage!
Hey man how was tech training and the depth perception test. Im training for loadmaster or aerial gunner and was curious of how it was at Lackland training get back at me pimpin
