Richard had problems with substance abuse (alcohol) in college, also. Sadly, nobody helped him when he needed help.

Sad that his demons derailed his career and life.

Had a legitimate chance to be an elite player in the NBA for probably 8-12 years and threw it all away on drugs. Arguably one of the top 3 players to ever come out of Oklahoma between Wayman Tisdale and Blake Griffin.

I think the league always knew he had a drug problem.No way a talent like Dumas lasted until the middle of the second round.The guy was ahead of his time in a lot of ways.Good shooter and can jump out the gym? back in the early 90's?late 2nd round pick?......they had to know he was doing drugs.The Suns decided to take a gamble and lost.Probably one of the most disappointing moments as a Suns fan.He was fun to watch and had tremendous upside.

i live in israel,a fan of hapoel holon,and i have seen him playing in the israeli league in the 1990-1991 season.

I remember watching this game live. Dumas was amazing. I'd seen other teams and players get under Jordan's skin for a few minutes at a time...But along with coach Phil, seemed like they had no clue what to do with Dumas- a ROOKIE! Jordan was still amazing in this series. He was around 42 ppg right? Great finals series!

The hell happen to this guy? I remember watching play growing up and I heard a lot of good things about Dumas.  It's a shame that he messed it all up. He could play thought where is he today?

Leon Powe is nowhere near what Richard Dumas was in terms of talent.Dumas had a nice mid range game

and he could jump out the gym.He was probably the most exciting player on that Suns team when given the playing time

and remember,HE WAS A ROOKIE.Powe had been in the league a few years before his performance in the finals.I dont know if there's a player in the league who reminds me of him
