  • WOW! that is one goooooood sounding engine! Power to spare love the sound of a detroit in a John Deere tractor thats funny!!!!!

  • Someone should stick one of these with twin turbochargers in a monster truck! That would be awesome!

  • never seen a v-8 detroit in any tractor. chrome valve covers are a nice touch. thanks for posting.

  • This is what happens when u give a deere steriods

  • Hey dingbats... (Hotrodx199, whb1965, etc...) GoldsLifter meant DUAL REAR WHEELS! C'mon guys seriously, get with the program.

Nobody would say that a tractor needs duals, and be referring to the exhaust. Apparrently some of you boys ain't very familiar with farming or the need for traction when pulling high draft loads. Geeze!

  • oh my gosh that familiar Detroit sound. In another life I spent a lot of time around a working dragline down in GA that had a detroit engine. sounded just like that.

  • @TugOwar 190-D Northwest with a V-12 Detroit and straight stacks, you could hear it for MILES !

  • ill pay you to pull my neighbors house down

  • Sounds hot.

  • nasty!

  • you 2 stroke jimmy will run on any old oil but it is recemended for a low detergent oil...delo 100.. ive seen them run for hours with hydrolic fluid in them in a pinch!!

  • man them detroits really scream dont they

  • Flat out awesome!

  • As far as I'm concerned"PERFECT"great combination ,love the sound of the detroit we sawmilled with a 318 for years.

  • RAD

  • Why did they do that to a deere??Shame

  • Messed up a good 5020. Would love to have read end of that for my 730 pulling tractor. Old 2 stroke Dets were good for noise and about nothing else. Wouldn't pull a sick whore off a piss pot. My 6 Moline would make that thing crawl back on the trailer all by itself . LOL!

  • what the fuck are you talking about them things would pull for miles and miles and miles.... i've never seen a moline pull anything more than 50 feet before they stall out

  • You haven't seen much have you? You work the pump and other stuff on Moline and it will talk and walk.

  • your 6 huh? You talking about a g6? I would put two g6's with the shitty mickey mouse 800's in em against this beast anyday. Clearly you don't know a whole lot about detroits.

  • Clearly you don;t know about putting engine off water pump that appears to be stock into G6 and working pump, heads, etc. LOL! Right out the end every 1st round and most 2nd. I drove plenty of trucks w/2cycle Dets for many years in 70's. Wear you out. You do put on a good show with yours.

  • @stevesprinceofsteaks ...sick whore off a piss pot LOL..never heard that one 10/10

  • @stevesprinceofsteaks

clearly you know nothing about a "screaming jimmy" some of the best logging skidders we had in northern wi were detroit powered

  • @thunderjet440

Know nothing about logging except it can be hard work. and it's a lot easier than it used to be. Drove old Detroits in trucks for years. And like I said they would wear your ass out. Got 1st 290 Cummins and then 350 and never looked back. Now Cat 6nz in T800 . Now that is real power.,

  • christ a john deere that sounds like a gmc brigadere

  • it does sound like a Brigadier. Think they had cat 3208's.

  • Only thing I've ever seen thats louder than my mother in law.

  • @DammitDrag : LMAO!!!!!! Yours too eh?!

  • @superturbodiesel I'm almost totally deaf from my mother-in-law, the old broad has got a voice like tyrontasaurus rex. Resembles on too.................

  • 5020 John Deere, screaming detroit, hmmm PERFECT combination!!!I would love to sit on one of those all day in the fields listening to that music.I am already half deaf,so why not finish it off with a good old Detroit. The most beautiful sound out there.

  • git er done cletus

  • LOL, That guy hit the brakes before he hit the clutch. LOL.. WOW

  • rcfreak LOL all ya want, im guessing that you dont know the reason for him hitting the brakes. Incase you dont, they are differential brakes (one pedal for the left and one for the right) it was in effort to get a few more feet. if you brake the side that is spinning the most, you CAN get enough traction to get rolling again.

  • Both were spinning bro. I know the purpose for using your brakes in a pull, because we pull tractors.

He hit the brakes before he hit the clutch. You are supposed to hit the clutch before the brakes when you want to stop. Thats the point.

  • Gotcha man, alot of ppl get on the pulling vids and talk shit or make comments about things that they have NO idea about.

  • ya i saw that to!!!haha

  • Its hard to be green my ass! Do work Deere!

  • 2 strokes are so hot..

but it's not that quiet ..

  • Nice 2 stroke

  • THOSE TIRES ARE REALLY DIGGING IN

  • they call em 318's for the horsepower

  • we called em road oilers or door slammers for you had shut youre thumb in the door to drive it right you'd be mad enough to give it pedal to the metal. and road oiler cause they leaked oil

  • Heading says..." 318 Detroit in a 5020 John Deere ".....Question: why does everyone refer to 8v71's as "318's".....their only 318's IF...they had N65 injectors with std. timing @ 2100rpms.

DD 8v71's could be had (in automotive

specs) with anywhere from 45 to 65mm

    injectors, naturally aspirated, to 85mm

with turbos. Of course you could always go even bigger as long as you have enough air, and with marine springs the rpms could go up to 2850+.

  • I've wondered that myself.

Interestingly enough, the 6V53 works out to... you guessed it... 318 cid. That I could understand being referred to as a 318, regardless of output.

  • Your right.....about the 6v53 = 318ci...but,

this 5020JD is definitely running 8v71 power.....568 ci

  • Yep. Either way, it's a beautiful sound!

  • Google " Detroit Diesel Powered Rail"

    .....a video on Youtube....it's actually a 1923 (or 27) "T" bucket....altered, running

    a 6v53 DD...twin turbo'd with "hand built"

injectors (not sure of mm size) and even though it drops a cylinder during the "burnout" he still runs an 8.72 et @

150mph ! Doug Doring from Conneticut

owns it. He owns a High Performance Diesel Shop....specializing in DD's.

  • I've seen it. Very impressive machine!

  • 9 LITERS OF FURY

  • A lot of good things happening here! One of the most attractive and durable tractors of all time with one of the greatest Diesel engines of all time. Great show.

  • Why is the driver pushing the single wheel brake at 0:27 ?

  • put some duals on that beast!

  • @GoldsLifter wth, its got duals on it..lol

  • @GoldsLifter Dual stacks? It already has duals...

  • @GoldsLifter

She was outta power. Duals would not have helped.

  • @GoldsLifter you would acually do worse with duals because in the case you want as much presure holding the tire to the ground and duals would distribute the wait so it would spin out easier singles are better on hard ground soft ground is were duals work well in were the tire wants to sink so the tire can still grib and not sink

  • Love it. Want one.

  • Next time do this run again but with the governor maxed at 2,250 rpm. That's, if it isn't set to 2,250 rpm already...

  • VERY NICE TRACTOR..

  • Nothing runs like a Deere, especially one with a V-8 Detroit in it!!!! Great!!

  • Andrew ,

we get our filters at our local parts house, NAPA , Fisher ,ask for 318 detroit or 8v71 detroit , these engines were in a lot of road tractors and heavy equipment , Rotella or Delo 400 is a good oil to run in them,

    Dane Pickerell

  • straight 40 weight not 15W40 right?

  • 40 weight

  • @7172duster nice tractor iv seen THE V8 IH'S BEFORE seen tricked out ford funk 8ns with flat heads first john deere conversion iv seen thats a hog to,

  • Hey Dan thanks for the info! Another question, where do you get parts for that engine? You wouldnt happen to know the oil filter number would you. Also is there a particular oil that detroits like or will just a good 15w50 oil work? Thanks for for your time and patience! Andrew Jackson

  • Detriot likes them to run on straight 30W. They actually have atech bulletin not to run multil weight oil. I worked with the 6v53T for many years in the USMC and we ran 15W40 because we used it in everything and you could see oil problems just like the bulletin talked about.

  • 40 weight you mean.

  • No straight 30. If you look at JD oil your choice is 15-40 or 30. Same here they want 30.

  • No, the literature from Detroit Diesel specifies 40 weight. 40 weight is sold at Detroit Diesel, as is there 15W40. All of Greyhounds last 6V92T's had stickers in the rear dictating SAE40 WT only. In accelerated wear tests 30W and 15W40 both showed excessive wear, compared to the recomended Straight 40 weight. Using 15W40 in my 6V92T caused excessive oil consumption. Everyone says something different I'm not saying your right or wrong, but 40 weight it is.

  • My work with Detroits is with 6V53T's and they wanted 30. The bigger ones may spec 40.

  • MarineCWO is correct. 2-strokes need a straight weight oil. However Chevron and Shell both make a straight weight diesel oil. Chevron has Delo 100 and Shell's is Rotella. You do NOT want to run a multiweight oil in a 2-stroke Detroit.

  • These Detroits were a repower kit from Kinze, the 318 is the hp. that the engine makes the engine is also known as 8V71 ,which is 8 cylinders , 71 cid. per cylinder, there were other conversion kits made by Kinze, for Deere and other mfg. Hope this helps Dane Pickerell

  • Holy Crap I have a 5020 almost identical to yours!!!! I have been trying to find info about this things forever, but have turned up empty handed. Were thses a conversion like the funk flyer fords? Yours is the only other one I have seen thats like mine. Exactly what kind of detroit is it. Any information would be greatly appreciated!

  • can you say 8V-71
