The first video release in the mid-'80s used a hard-edged country version of "I'm a Believer" in the closing credits instead of the Four Tops' "Same Old Song." Anyone know who performed it?
@TheShadowfakx When the film was being prepared for video release in 1985, the producers didn't want to pay the high price for the music rights to the Four Tops tune so they substituted a gritty country version of the Neil Diamond-penned song "I'm a Believer." I rented the VHS tape just once late that year but I clearly remember the song wasn't performed by The Monkees or Neil Diamond. If someone has the '85 videotape, check the song credits and tell us who sang "I'm a Believer."
Well, that means great direction!

Does anyone know if the operatic background music is in the soundtrack? It's so haunting.

@andyinoregon fitting question for today,,,Davey Jones of the Monkees quit for good. I always believed
1. it was a better song for the ending; real ironoc
2. i do believe it was the Monkees original, performed by the Monkees
3.why did they make the change?

Imagine that being the last thing you see before you die.

An ok movie with an excellent ending. Their later work is much much better and I cant wait for True Grit. I hope they can pull it off.

Definitely one of the best endings of all time. It made up for the rest of the movie, which was comparatively boring
