I can't help but see this with the perspective that the one being sung about made the mistake...

Why should I look at the singer as someone who made a mistake? He/she genuinely loved someone he/she got to know deeply and probably would of been a great lover and companion.

Instead, the person claimed the singer's feelings as a sham and a lie? The irony in this is despite the direct lyrical meanings, it's apparent to me this song is made out of love.

Even in rejection, the loyalty remains.
