I think there is a big market for someone that would like an integrated system that is sized and dedicated to power specific consumer products. Lets say you want the big screen TV, why can't you buy the TV with an integrated solar-charger-battery-inverter that runs the TV alone? To bad no one sells appliances with specifically sized systems?

You hit the nail on the head it is dependent upon your needs if you get BTU from sun for air and water heating then that is less you need to glean from solar panels use all the passive solar that you can to lessen the cost of owning an off grid system. This means having an energy efficient home storing water above ground to lessen pumping if you have a pump to a well hang cloths out to dry. Laptops rather than home PC all save energy.
