I think Mary actually looks way cooler and sexier in her more natural state here than in those 90s promo videos where they have her all tarted up with a ton of makeup on to look like some manufactured waif.

great live sound, christina files used to do lots of those live bands at the middle east in the 90s... then she drummed for mary, oh so wonderful and beautiful... such a lost lost fan of mary and all that movement... super 8 films, the harvard radio station's orgy programme, sebadoh, used bookstores, people tripping loads and all that infectious action... the sound here is so much better than all that new rave crap these days... these kids were free and drugged or not and brilliant... miss u

I love this album & era, though Mary's first two solo records on matador are my favorites.

Ash Bowie was awesome in this band, a perfect male counterpart to Timony.

And Mary still plays that same Fender, even today!

Mary was a siren for a special brand of mystical Christian introvert ( well, for me anyway ). She even looks like a painting of the Virgin Mary, with those sleepy, lamb-like eyes.

I block out all the feminist crud of her songs and concentrate on the loneliness and yearning and end-times stuff. That's what I like.

Helium should have been way more popular than they were, i wonder why they weren't? i mean i 've watched all the videos they made for some really good songs mind you, and it just seems wierd that they weren't more popular, they seem to fit right in with the "alternative" movement of that time peroid

yes! why weren't they immense? they had the sound and the band, the tension, the beauty; maybe the tempo was slow for the kids? coz they were perfect.perfect songs, mary would simply stun everyone with her impossibly beautiful looks, voice, guitar playing, songwriting: did they even know they were so very good? did they believe it... helium was one of the very best bands of the 90s... if they could've only stayed together, with the matador support, they'd be on jools holland like cat power...

Well.. courtney isn't as good as a song writer as mary, mary did something original, while courtney had kurt write stuff for her and to springboard her into stardom after she used him up. can you imagine if kurt wound up with mary timony? MY GOD!!! what beautiful music they would have made!
