  • Student

    1: scholar , learner ; especially : one who attends a school.

2: one who studies : an attentive and systematic observer.

Note these people are NOT acting like students. They are just starting trouble.

  • That was hilarious watching Jose crying like a baby as he was hauled away. Guess he wasn't as tough as he thought he was. Please Dr. June please Dr. June you know I didnt do anything! Please Dr. June please Dr. June! hahaha. Far cry from having his chest all puffed up only 10 minutes earlier.

  • We all immagrants...And cops well there nothing but power hungry pigs...

  • Those arrested or asked to leave were OBVIOUSLY the ones who were causing trouble. Duh. The reason "Rich/Whites" weren't asked to leave is because they weren't causing trouble!

  • Simcox is not the racist. It's the Mexican supremacists like MECHA, Aztlan, and La Raza who are.

  • WHat the Hell? North America should form an organization like the European Union. We're living in a world that should be UNITED! not separated! Even the Germans know it! their country was split by a wall for nearly 30 years!

Whoever thinks that illegals should be deported and that a wall should be built to keep mexicans as prisoners inside their country, should go back to Europe.

  • also, in very many cases, 'anti-immigrant' groups are as anti-neoliberal as many pro-immigrant groups, but for different reasons. at all the minutemen rallies here in texas there are folks tabling against the trans-texas corridor, and recently in the so-called radical circles, the tragedy that that will cause is gradually being discussed more and more. ppl of different political ideologies understand the real suffering caused by such shitty policy. hopefully that that comes across more.

  • i personally am not advocating for open borders. this is a problem that does not have an easy answer, but rather many answers, some of which are already being worked out (like the CIW, catfish workers in N. Mississippi, MPOWER of s. mississippi, baltimore workers center that has been organizing temp workers who are black, white and brown). and the world wide resistance to neoliberalism. but the studies show, the more 'secure' the border, the more deaths happen crossing it.

  • Securing our border will not stop the bleeding caused by free trade and neoliberal policy. If you look past the numbers (GNP, GDP, and so forth) to see the real-life effect of our economic policy, you will see that the real dumping ground has been the third world, our dumping ground for quick profit schemes that have not done much but push people off their land and force them to migrate, often immigrating to the US.

  • couldn't agree with your 1st sentence more. simply put, corporate greed is our greatest enemy. but that greed has hurt millions more white people in usa than blacks. from lost pensions to unheard of health care costs. but how does 3rd world occupation of usa solve any of this. it will clearly make it worse.

  • definitely, as white ppl are the majority of poor people in this country, i totally agree. well one thing that comes with immigration is new ways of fighting corporate greed. case in point: the coalition of immokalee workers. they have been organizing in southern fl for bout 15 years now and have been using strategies learned and developed over their years involved in latin american social movements.

  • pt4 I will continue to attend 'peaceful and informative' events by advocates of closed/secure borders and will continue to contribute to the efforts to disrupt the living daylights out of them.

  • insert: how many do you advocate bringing here? how many can USA absorb before we become 3rd world? do you have any understanding of the word illegal? do you understand that 80 million will be born into 3rd world poverty in 2007? are you proposing that we become the dumping ground for all? it's a physical impossibility! we have an obligation to our kids and grandkids to preserve the greatness of this country for them!

  • pt3 These peaceful citizens going out to attend this peaceful, informative event probably hav little connection to the pain and suffering in immigrant communities that such groups either indirectly advocate for or chose to completely ignore. I apologize to them for not understanding the reallife significance of our disruptive tactics. But we as folks who are part of those communities or hav come to understand that suffering, have a responsibility to bare witness to that suffering through action.

  • part 2. What those kids disrupting this event are protecting, with every bad chant and poorly constructed sign, is the lives of inmigrantes that will die crossing the border, the security of families left behind, the health of the communities they are forced to leave in South and Central America, Mexico, Asia, Africa, the Caribbean and so on, and the collective wellbeing of the communities that they join when they arrive here.

  • insert: "if a country can't protect its' borders, it really isn't a country anymore"........Ronald Reagan.

  • A closed/secure border can be thought of as a band aid on a gunshot wound. Devastating economic policy, both here and throughout the 'third world', very much promulgated by advocates of 'free' trade, have ripped to shreds the many ways that poor folks are creating in order to survive in a dignified manner at home. Since the 1970's, turn towards free trade, and the resulting attack on those many, diverse manners of dignified existence, immigration to 'rich' countries has skyrocketed.

  • To those people who don't understand why it is so important to disrupt a 'peaceful' event in this way, you must understand that this is not merely a discussion, but rather a battle scene. And the spoils of battle are not measured in better public policy or political gains, but rather in human lives. As part of a community intimately connected to inmigrantes, I understand that the lives of our friends, family, and community members depend on our fight.

  • name calling ruins your argument. good job blowing a good opportunity. unless you have some evidence that mr. simcox beats his wife....oh wait thats right, you dont...

  • Hey which building on campus did this happen in?

  • Simcox calls audience members "gangbangers". This is clearly no longer within the realm of "educational" speech and the university must be reprimanded for its continued support of YAF and anyone associated with this defamatory hate speech on behalf of a registered student organization.

  • The university should expel students who shout during peaceful events. THAT would fix the problem.

  • This talk of we didn't cross the border, the border crossed us is bull. Ever since the first humans crossed the land bridge to America 12,000 years ago, humans in North America have been fighting each other over land. Don't say America is horrible because she took your land. "Your people" are guilty of the same thing. You just lost.

  • YAF is recognized as an Official Hate Group! Why are they still allowed on MSU property? I respect the freedom of speech, but i'm not big on hate speech.

  • rockerman6244, please do not insult my friends.

I cannot understand how you can be so hateful, and blind. They are fighting for rights that people should have because they are on American soil.

  • rockerman6244, please do not insult my friends.

I cannot understand how you can be so hateful, and blind. They are fighting for rights that people should have becuase they are on American soil.

  • In many ways I sympathize with your position, but the gross display of "play the victim" and use of the race card only makes our position look idiotic. Come on, no one believes the accusations you are making. No it wasn't because they are people of color, it was because they were disruptive and wouldn't leave. Your video made that glaringly obvious. Just debate the issue. It comes off like we don't have an argument, so we resort to name calling. Way to go. You're destroying our cause.

  • I'm a very good friend of Jose "lupe" Villagran and this video although disgusting brings to light the amount of racism that still exists in the states. I live one mile from the border and nothing hits closer to home than this video. The minute men are white middle class bigots who get off on discrimination.

  • There are also black and Latino members of the Minutemen. Liberals like you cry "racism" when someone doesn't agree with your pro-affirmative action and pro-illegal alien propaganda!

  • I'm in the video! Woot! I'm a star!

Some of the conclusions you draw are a bit dubious, but the video was cool nonetheless. Your camera work is much better than mine. I suck ass at filming stuff.

  • you had a photo camera and I have a video camera

  • boricua616 needs more than a few history courses! he talks like someone who was educated by al sharpton and heraldo riviera!

  • hahaha! Yeah, he is a putz!

  • Omygosh this video pisses me off to no end!

  • These ignoramuses don't have a clue what kind of blood, sweat, and tears it took to launch this great ship we call the USA! Now a bunch of crap-assed hooligans are roaming our college campuses screaming for OPEN BORDERS!Don't the illiterates realize that if a country can't protect its borders, it isn't a country anymore?I can see why "Pablo" or "Abdul" wants that but why would sensible white or black Americans? Leaders of tomorrow???????????????????????????

  • Your argument makes absolutely no sense and appears to be founded on some form of racial hierarchy and assumptions of racial superiority, certainly diminishing its credibility in my mind.

  • the blood of black slaves picking your cotton? the sweat of the chinese building your railroads? or the tears of the native americans teaching you how to grow crops and to even survive.

For centuries Americans have built this country off of the blood, sweat, and tears of others. I love this country but I hate the people who currently run it and the people who want to claim they built it.

  • Amen to that.

  • read some history dummy! whose fault is it that manhattan was purchased for $24., the europeans? and whose fault is it that big, fat, black, chieftans in africa sold their own the minute they had the chance! white europeans came to this country and scratched like dogs to make a living in coal mines, farming, etc. there were 12 year old "white" kids working their butts off on the railroads! an extremely small % of americans ever owned slaves! you cultural revolutionists make me sick.

  • Actions like this happening at MSU, the police supporting racism. They have the freedom of speech, and that law applies to everyone.

Mexican-Americans did not cross any border, the border crossed them. You must of forgot states like California, Colorado, Montana, New Mexico, etc. all have Spanish names and cities. They have every right to fight for what they believe in just like you do.

  • Mexican (mostly) scum tried to shut down a peaceful event. The cops were VERY restrained, until the horde leaders crossed the line that all civilized people know to exist.

Arrests were made. Justice was upheld.

Until two hours later, whereupon the police let these bastards go.

It is sad that these rabble were not punished justly.

  • Referring to the protesters as "scum" in such a racially charged way nearly nullifies the legitimacy of your comment. True, Simcock had a right to speak, but the officers said they were closing the event, but did not. They discriminated on the basis of race and political ideology. I was a non-disruptive audience member in support of the protesters who was intimidated by the police to leave. My rights were violated as I was denied access to a public event. Where is the justice in that?

  • I have seen scum come in all races, drop the racial accusation if you want me to take you seriously.

The cops deemed you to be part of the problem. Given the obvious restraint they used, I have to side with them on your question.

  • They used absolutely no restraint. I watched them senselessly beat a student in from of me. I was an eye witness, don't tell me about restraint. You miss my point, but actually support it anyway. The police deemed me part of the problem because they discriminated against my political ideology. The police took sides and did not have the interests of the public in mind. They were concerned w/ their overtime pay and abusing their authority.

  • Also, if you say that "scum" come in all races, why did you make a point of explicitly identifying the "scum" in this case as Mexican? You're comment is an attempt to cover your ass for expressing racial prejudice. My accusation is legitimately founded and you have no choice but to take it seriously, or accept the dismissal of your point.

  • Most of the scum are apparently Mexican. There are also clearly some white and black scum present as well. There is not enough evidence to indicate whether any gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered or animal-luvin scum are present.

  • FUCK you, Mexicans are not scum. The police are so damn racist

  • Jaymejean, I dont want to sexually penetrate myself you sicko!

I said the people that yelled during that event were scum. Those people are a mixture of races, but mostly mexican i assume. Racists believe that one race is superior to another. There is no evidence on this video indicating that the cops were racist. Unless you view the arresting of scum who are disrupting a peaceful event racist.

  • Boricua, try having an original thought. History is riddled with demogogues who conquered using armies of empty-headed, morally indignant myrmidons who had no clue why there told to believe what they were.

  • You're not very bright. The police were racist because the protesters were not interfering, and to call another human scum is detestable, sir.

  • My, my my. You are just far too eloquent for me to engage in any serious discussions. Best of luck articulating anything to anyone outside of a YouTube forum.

  • Wow. There is no reason to be so defamatory. Please keep your closed minded racist comments to yourself.

  • From what I say all I seen was white cops doing all arresting. The on black cop that was there didn't do anything. I don't really think they needed to choke my man up like that. I am MSU Alum. I have seen tons off stuff they let white people get away wit at parties. When we couldn't even chill out on the pourch with out the police threating to take us to jail. Not even being loud. But they let them play beer pong outside at 2am. Come on now.....

  • well just to let you in on a little info i am proud to be a XICANA and my friend that is half white and half mexican told me she is ashamed to say that she is white because of people like you.....

  • rockerman6244 is simply afraid of the power that The Struggle holds and therefore attacks it in the most aggressive and distasteful imaginable. This is characteristic of the scare tactics conservatives so often employ to try and dismiss intelligent conversation. They are firm believers that whomever shouts loudest wins. It only takes a few minutes to uncover and exploit their foolishness.

  • It's so infuriating. It does NOT take 8 cops to arrest a student who was not even being violent!

Also, white people would not be so quick to spout off how people should be able to say whatever they want even to the point of encouraging racism and ethnically targetted murder if it where white people who actually had to live in fear of those things. It's easy to calmly talk about racism and murder when you face none of the real, and life threatening affects of those things.

  • FUCK YAF

  • Again, I did NOT enjoy the event at all. This video reawakened the absolute disgust, betrayal, and rage I feel toward the DPPS, the MSU Administration, YAF, and the College Republicans. We must remember that YAF and the College Republicans are united. The actions and inactions of the DPPS and Administration institutionalized hate in our university. I am sickened by what took place and want justice for the violation of the rights of my brothers and sisters in The Struggle and my own.

  • if you think that this university is such a horrible and unjust place then stop funding it and leave.

  • That's not how things are solved. Your comment is utterly foolish and a gross oversimplification. If betrayed students simply left, the injustices that occurred would never be addressed or dealt with. I have always loved MSU which makes the Administration's and DPPS' conduct that much more upsetting.

  • I want to clarify that I did NOT enjoy the event in the least bit, but was featured in that portion of the film. I am the student taking pictures, documenting the rights violations taking place. I hope this was an honest mistake because I was at the event in support of the protesters and was taking pictures as a means to observe and document the goings on. I have over 40 pictures which I plan to contribute to any class action lawsuit efforts that progressive student groups plan to pursue.

  • continues.....

indigenous people that lived on this land. we owned but we were kicked out and i believe that Mexicans have all the right to reside in the U.S. Yet everyone believes that Christopher Columbus discovered this country but that is incorrect because it does not state the real history that Native americans and Mexican were the first setteleres here on this land so the only immigrants here are well i guess you can imagine what my answer is!!!!

  • i believe that there is really no reason for the borders to be closed because Mexicans A.K.A. Illegal Immigrants come to the united states to make more money to send to their families in mexico i myself am a product of an illegal immigrant and I AM PROUD OF THAT!!!!!! No one will ever be able to bring my pride down. Just to let everyone in on a little bit of knowledge we were the first natives (indegenous

  • There is nothing better than watching idiot leftists go to jail for mouthing off to police officers and resisting arrest. Well, except arguing with a leftist sociology professor and his or her affirmitive action degree.

  • Oh geez, This crap is par for the course here in San Francisco, but Michigan continues to surprise me with how crazy some of these people get. Who gives a shit how much you disagree with this guy? He has a every right to speak and be heard. Its disgraceful to our constitution that these students would act like children in the presence of rhetoric they disagree with. I'mn guessing Simcox isn't invited to their birthday party anymore.

  • mellemda...I never said open displays of Mexican nationalism are illegal. I was only suggesting that the woman with the flag should think about how people view her actions. Immigrants chanting in Spanish and waving Mexican flags sends a message that immigrants aren't here because they want to be American.

  • ALL of us are immigrants, to say "deport illegals" is to say "get out" to all our grandparents and therefore YOU. We can speak freely on utube, however racist our comments are, and we don't have to face those that we try to humiliate. I challenge all of you to speak to those people of color in your classes (hopefully you are in school, otherwise I understand your ignorance) or take a class on sociology and learn about how you got to be where you are through unearned privilege and oppression

  • Please keep the comments coming.... your opinion is very valuable

  • No police officer is going to commit a hate crime on this campus, especially with cameras pointed everywhere. Those arrests were legit.

  • I completely agree with spyduster. I'm tend to the side very liberal and I think, as well as some of my liberal friends, that the people shouting are hate groups. You're no better. Everyone has a right to peaceably assemble in this country, and everyone should have the right to speak their mind. Dialog should be encouraged, not this. I have full faith in MSU police. They always make sure that the force is balanced.

  • Oh, and open displays of Mexican nationalism are protected under our first amendment rights.

  • Also, the one with the giant Mexican flag, mmmm maybe open displays of Mexican nationalism is what frightens the citizens of this country? why should you be allowed to come to this country if your loyalties are with someonelse?

  • Are you serious? You claim MSU is racist and sexist for evicting all members of the audience except for the white males YET you clearly show the minority police officers and female police officers. You also clearly show the latino woman remains in the event. The individuals that were allowed to remain appeared to be the quite nondistruptive individuals. Maybe that's what the police were targeting and NOT the color of their skin?
