  • tthis is oen of my favorit moves next to august rush

and josh waitskin became a muay thai champ in thailand i believe ,what an amazing guy ,, thanks for posting

  • Which chess pieces are used here that are so loud?

  • @Cheisu7 you can use any wood pieces on a wood board would be loud, it looks like their using the hard plastic tournament pieces, there just slapping them on the board hard though thats what makes the sound.

  • What a sore winner.

  • Why do all these kids in movies have bangs?

  • Actors need jobs, so I can empathize with Shaloub. Movie title is classic --but why search for B.F.? He was a genuis....but also a jerk. Search for something more important....like world peace!

  • @UTAOUB For chess players, searching for Bobby Fischer is more important.

  • The kid used the "candy" gambit and as a result got into a winning position

  • yea do that cuz i wanna see it too!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • "You didn't adjust the piece, you moved the piece!"

    favorite scene

  • Tony Shalhoub is cool

  • Remember Einsteins words. GREAT MINDS HAVE ALWAYS ENCOUNTERED OPPOSITION/RESISTANCE FROM MEDIOCRE ONES, idraw3g, this comment is for you

  • so 2TheDeath is a great mind because he thought the film is a cute flick? You're an idiot. Seriously, you're a moron.

  • 10/10 movie

  • no georgegrasser, he lost in 7 to scholastics because he has pity.

the true nature of the kid is gentle. he has no concept of contempt. this is probably why he's a virtuosso. his mind isnt cluttered with competetive thoughts.

to him, its just a game. its everyone elses competetive ugliness, thats putting pressure on him to win.

but then again, such is life.

  • Well, when you're a kid it's easy. You're not afraid to dare to try. You do it just because you like it ; ) I agree with you. I was good when I was a kid but I quit. I don't know why. I learned so fast and I quit playing chess. Now I'm 20 and I wanna go back. I feel that my mind is still open and I can do it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • he sounds like he could use a good beating

  • dude this movie made me wanna learn how to play chess.

    i'm learning right now. :D

  • @georgegrasser not so much. Read King's Gambit, get good at chess, meet some real masters, realize that they devote hours and hours to a fucking game, realize that bobby fischer was a racist and paranoid and mentally unhealthy, realize that kasparov is sexist and insecure--so much as to insult a child in a simul, most importantly go to a chess club and you'll understand that being good at chess does not make you smart or happy.

  • Well I don't remember what I wrote 9 months ago. The comment seems to have been removed. Chess is excellent for children to learn. 40 or so years later for me and I'm never board and have something to do. Also it will be another 40 years before I won't be able to compete anymore, unlike other sports.

  • It is not the problem of 'chess' but rather

    the over valuation of thinking.

And ironically, even with the over emphasis with thinking, most can't.

Pure thought, ignoring the body, leads

to mental illness, a disease that is a by-

product, of chess masters, mathmeticans, theoritical physics.

  • JoshRom, everything must be done in moderation; ti's not exclusive to just chess. If you have no life outside of a hobby, then yeah, that hobby isn't going to be a good long-term substitute for happiness.

Chess is far from being the most innately "glorious" and "rewarding" of pursuits, but it's a shit load better than having no talent and spending all your time playing video games or something. Just my two cents.

  • Wow. The below posters nearly all get high marks for low class.

Try to comment like adults, people.

  • @HighNortherner Just curious: Does MY comment qualify as an adult comment, in your estimation?

  • This movie makes tournament chess look way too dramatic. Still it's a cute flick for kids.

  • Comment removed

  • Tournament chess is pretty dramatic.

  • Cute flick? Shut the fuck up, you moron

  • tony shalhoub looks good with a beard. i've never seen him with one.

  • I agree.

  • Monk got Pwnd

  • Tony Shalhoub reminds me of Brad Garret here.

  • What a gorgeous movie this is! And a stellar cast too, I'd even forgotten about Tony's cameo, when the likes of William H. Macy, Laura Linney, Laurence Fishburne, Dan Hedaya and David Paymer are in it, and in minor roles alongside the leads of Joan Allen, Ben Kingsley and Joe Mantegna. Really sweet movie with some lovely moments...

  • Tony with a Beard? Yes, he looks good! xD

  • It's not fair how Bobby Fischer didn't get a single cent from this movie even though they used his name.

  • the kid tooked out his Queen, that's why Tony knock his King (resign).

  • u are dumb

  • why is he dumb?

  • because his statement made no sense. shaloub knocked down his own king because that is what u do in chess when it is not officially checkmate but it will be soon and there is nothing u can do about it.

  • That's exactly what he said. He said Tony resigned when the kid knocked out his queen.

  • just because u lose your queen doesnt mean you lose

  • No, but it pretty much means you're fucked

  • If you suck i suppose it would.

  • You obviously don't know shit about chess then.

  • @OkayWhoBroughtTheDog The word you used, the word F**ked, doesn't that mean the same thing as you can't win without it?

  • yeah but look where the black queen stays. he could knock out his tower and then doesn't matter what he's doin' he'll lose his king. (If I saw that right, I'm not a chess expert) :D

  • Why would HE be dumb?

  • monk got deezed

  • Bwahahaha! Tony's not even in check when he knocks over his king. If he is in check it'd have to be a bishop somewhere else, but the king has a way out going diagonally to the right. Haha that's pretty funny.

  • the kid skooled on him and took his queen

    he quit

  • with a beard he look vagueley like serj tankian.

  • Yes, I think that too!^^

  • lols ^^

  • ouch..maybe tony needed to bring natalie along lol.

  • pwned

  • so funny. tony's got a BEARD! lol.

  • This film has some of the most exquisite cinematography I've ever seen. Conrad Hall was the greatest DP ever! R.I.P.

  • The Lighting is amazing! The way faces and interiors are lit is legendary! Connie Hall is brilliant.

  • Oh, Tony! I just love him.

  • Hey its Monk!!!!

  • put up the whole movie please somebody

  • I will put it up in a couple of days

  • I love tony <3
