Sound travels at different speeds depending on the medium it travels through. Different woods have a different density and a different resonant frequency. To say wood has no effect or does not matter is a ludicrous argument. Now what sounds best is subjective. An acoustically resonant object will have its own resonance frequency and also will possess harmonics at which it will more readily vibrate thus amplifying these. So there are differences in tone. Different Strings & pups also change tone.
