  • Marvin's first big solo hit with Motown and boy, did he take off from there!

  • Back in 1976 a Guy Sung this song to me HJS and I Lost it.

  • The hour's spent dancing to this, priceless...

  • Another great, early Motown gem.

    The title fit the singer.

Hidden gem is the piccolo solo at 1:16 by the late Beanes Bowles, and the background

of The Del Phi's, later to become Martha and the Vandellas.

    Perfect Record.

  • First heard that song in the late 1960's and when my mother purchased Marvin's Greatest Hits back in 1974 I played that song a lot. Still my fave Gaye song.

  • Great song!!!!

  • they were playing that song on that movie "The Long Kiss Good Night"

  • Great tune!

  • thank God for youtube. they make it possible to get my old skool fix whenever I need it. Love me some marvin!

  • THIS MY FRIENDS IS A CLASSIC SONG. WILL YOU JUST LISTEN TO THOSE DRUMS. GUEST WHAT, IT IS NOT A DRUM MACHINE. BACK IN THE DAY, THEY DID NOT HAVE MORE THAN 4 TRACKS TO WORK WITH. BUT LISTEN TO THE QUALITY. NOW, TODAY WE HAVE UNLIMITED TRACKS TO USE, YET ALOT OF THE MUSIC STILL SOUNDS LIKE CRAP. TO ALL MY FELLOW SONGWRITERS, PRODUCERS AND ENGINEERS, LETS GO BACK TO THE OLD SCHOOL WAYS OF MAKING MUSIC. PEACE

  • @Super3259

Amen to that i feel the same when it comes to the QUALITY of music like this, thanks for the post

  • @Super3259 What did you say? I can't hear you. Just kidding. This is one of my favorite songs and I go back a long time.

  • @Super3259 ok turn caps lock off you are ruining the mood of the song

  • @Super3259

Super Super3259 but let's everybody calm down. Release the Caps Lock.

  • You're absolutely right lillydiaz.. this was Marvin's

first big hit single. Remember it well.. always been

    a big fan. RIP Marvin

  • This became his lst big hit, that paved the way for recognition when he was a struggling artist. R.I.P.

  • @oldmus60.... Martha and the Vandellas sang backup on most of his early hits. Motown used to grab whoever was in the building at the time. Made for some classic hits. Peace.

  • genial

  • nice back-up

  • One of Motown's most consistent hit makers, Marvin had hits in the 60's, 70's and 80's.

  • I consider myself lucky because even though this music is gone, my darling is as old-fashioned as they come and we sing and dance to these songs all the time!!

  • A genius.Smooth voice, handsome -great sense of rythym.Marvin`s father brought Marvin into the world-but Marvin`s father took Marvin from this world....."Genius and madness are closely allied....and thin is the partition that between them divide."

  • DIS SONG HITS MY SPIRIT AND DIS SONG MAKES ME FEEL GOOD.

  • LOVE THIS!!!!!!

  • Marvelous Marvin ....ain't nobody like him.

Timeless sound and songs to enjoy. He is sorely missed.

Cocaine aided in his destruction. The HIGHEST HEIGHT is LIFE...enjoy it (LIFE) don't destroy it!!! (with drugs).

  • So true Hot Rob!

  • Smoothest voice ever.A genius.

  • We love Mediaoutletonline for getting f~ree s0ngs like this... You can search it using Google.

  • great southern beach music shag song...and a great song anyway ; )

  • The 1st chord in the song (the one that keeps reoccurring) is an augmented chord -very unusual for pop. There's a lot of thought behind this song's composition and his background in jazz is evident. I've always loved this song.

  • SAy yea yea yea!!!!

  • HEY! WVON days and Herb Kent "the Cool Gent"! Chi-Town STAND UP!

  • Motown, the all time feel good music..Marvin Gaye, Four Tops, Temptations, Funk Bros.

  • You and Barry White are the two best singers of all-time. You were blessed with a beautiful voice and you could sing; not only did you sing, but you were a pure singer, and when you sang you touched peoples hearts, just like Barry White did.

  • I Miss Marvin!

  • On this the 27th anniversary of his death, he lives on and on with music like this.

What a gift he was. Miss you Marvin!!

  • This is my ALL time favorite Marvin Gaye song.

  • I remember dancing to this song in 8th grade. He was the best of the best. Music today cannnt compare with this. I absolutely love it "in every way"

  • I danced to this song in 8th grade. He was the best of the best. Music today cannot compare to this. I love it "in every way"

  • This is the first song I ever heard by Marvin Gaye. That was a loonnngggg time ago. But, I'll always love this song - sounds just like it did the very first time I heard it - used to cha cha on this one.

  • @angelopps1 wow Ricky should get the role in the Marvin MOVIE PERFECT MARVIN!!

  • Love Martha and the Vandellas background vocals.

  • used to get knee walking drunk to this one !

  • Beautiful, feelgood motown. This reminds me of the scene in "the long kiss goodnight" when Geena Davis throws Samuel Jackson out of the car!- Flat on his back in the snow, calmly gets a fag out and lights it up- then nothing said as she comes and picks him back up! HaHa Cracks me up. Anywho, TOP TUNE!

  • it remind me of the house party we used to go to back in the 1964

  • @TheAna1671 Do you remember Party Lights I see the party light? Claudine Clark?

  • @JazzyJ1318 I sure do remember that song. I think it was 1963 summer. Thanks for bringing back yet another good memory!

  • Oh! Those memories of being in the 9th

grade and learning the cha cha cha.

Thanks for the memories Marvin Gaye.

  • love this song! <3

  • This is one of the funkiest jams I ever heard and surely came popping like a shotgun when Marvin put it out. Hear him lay down the FUNK on the drums and piano (and the vocals) with the other Funk Brothers and Martha and the Vandellas accompanying him. An instant classic. RIP Marvin!

  • Marvin Gaye was one of the best artists at Motown but most anything that came out of Motown was good!

  • THIS IS MY SHIT!!!!!

  • Barely restrained passion and style. Martha & the Vandelas on background vocals got that 60s call and response thing going on, too. Luv it!!!

  • Love this song, it sounds so frenetic! Man, this is that wild kinda music I can get down to all day long!

  • Man, I bet that when they finished recording this song, Marvin had run a few laps around the building to run off all that energy he put into recording this..

  • Thanks for this video! Although I did not know him personally, his music was in my heart, and when he died so did a part of me, and his death made me cry. How odd, when I might not even cry for someone I've known in person. Life is strange. Peace.

  • What is life?Music and beauty and athleticism are surely among life`s finer things. And in this the american black man is peerless.

  • @1994g0 brilliantly stated

  • Thank you.And I mean no disrespect toward other ethnic groups. But hear the voice of Marvin Gaye or David Ruffin...watch the grace, power and beauty of LeBron James...Magnificent.

  • first 45 I ever bought. The "B" side was "Hitchhike"

  • absoluley love this song,i may be young, but i could listen to it over and over agian... and i do lol

  • This is my favourite as well.Fancy making something as good as this first time out.

  • He was the best and this is my favorite of his!

  • this music is timeless

  • ONE OF MOTOWNS FINEST

  • the emotion in his voice....man you cant find stuff like this anymore....wish i could have been alive to witness his musical genius for myself....

  • classic. I'm 25 and I still love this song.

  • One of my all time favourite songs, I am only 14 but i love Motown as you can see from my name. FOURTOPS4EVER

  • When I listen to this and if I close my eyes, I'm back in elementary school, listening to this at lunch time on my transitor radio!! Just the other day!!! Thanks much.

  • Martha & the Vandellas did the background vocals...But this was 1962, when they were still known as The Del-Phis. Next they sang on "HitchHike" (1962) & "Pride & joy" (1963)...Then came "Heatwave" & they were no longer a background act

  • Detroit is in the house --I used to skate to this song at the Arcadia in Detroit, Great times.

  • This song came out in 1962 !! it didnt come out in 1969

  • Always loved this song...wish Marvin and Otis were still with us...they'd have Stevie Wonder street cred

  • Otis who?

  • Otis Redding

  • Otis who? lol.

  • unforgettable

  • WOW.One of my favorite songs by Marvin....I LOVE when he say" I have kissed a few, Tell you a few has kissed me tooooooo( 2:10- 2:17)

  • Got to see Marvin live in concert a few times before the riots in '68...after that it just wasn't cool....but we miss you brother

  • the best Marvin Gaye song Period.

  • For me this is Marvin Gaye at his best!!

Real early Marvin, his voice real raspy &

I love it. We used to do a "special dance"

to this song, I only wish it was longer &

one of his finest, before he wrote all those

    fabulous "Message Songs", thanks for

    this... Marcie B.

  • yea easily one of my favorite....backrounds is killin this song.....good shit

  • , Martha and the Vandellas In 1969, a Martha and her former Vells bandmates Ashford and Beard were recruited to perform background work for Marvin Gaye on his second album, That Stubborn Kinda Fellow. Gaye's first hit records "Stubborn Kind of Fellow", "Hitch Hike" and "Pride and Joy", prominently featured the girls.\

  • I agree,. This is classic Marvin. I love this song. We used to do the "Wiggle wobble" to this song.....still do, a little less wiggle though, and a lot more wobble! Great song. Too bad the kids today don't get it.

  • I agree, You are so right on Hotrodbb, now

I do remember that dance... wow, those

were the day's!! Best music and best of

    times... great memories!

    Peace- M

  • I completely agree. As a friend recently stated to me; We had the best music, the best cars, the best styles, good health care and education. What happened????

  • Hotrodbb, oh my God, I thought I was the only person on earth who remembered The Wiggle Wobble!!! HAHAHA. Even though I was only 2 at the time!!

  • It doesn't matter how old you are, this is great "feel-good music". Try to pass it on to the younger people. If they hear it, they won't be able to tune it out... not if they have one once of real soul!

  • I totally agree

  • @Hotrodbb hey i'm 15 this is one of my favorite songs

  • @nappyp33z

Good for you nappyp33z ! That is what I like to hear. Keep digging around on here and you will find many songs from that era that are unbelievably cool!

  • @nappyp33z anybody that likes this is cool in my book !

  • @Hotrodbb you are my frend sir. plain and simple.

  • @Hotrodbb

  • Happy B-day Marvin!!!!

  • Thank you so much neuroticarlo for posting this video. I have been in love with this song ever since I first heard it. Marvin Gaye's voice is timeless and the same for Martha and the Vandellas. Simply a phenomenal classic! Love, love, love! Great music!

  • Thats me

  • shaking my tail feather

  • Hi! This song is 1 of my 5 prefered songs, of all the songs I've heard! Firts, I've heard Stevie Wonder singing it, so I thought it was one of his songs, but I'm not stonished that it's a M.Gaye's song;he was really a GREAT artist! It's a pity he's no more with us, I miss his songs.5* without problems! THKS for sharing this video. BYE!

  • thanx! You're welcome!

that's one fo my favourite songs by Marvin too, maybe What's Going On is the best, absolutely.

  • Hi! Thanks for "You're welcome", it made me happy! You said that "What's going on" is perhaps the best, but personnally, perhaps have I heard it too much, but I really prefer "Stubborn kind of fellow".When I said that it's one of my 5 favourites song of all the songs I've heard, I don't joke, it's only the truth!I listen to it, thks again for sharing it,every morning when I come to my PC.BYE!

  • this was in Long Kiss Goodnight - scene when Sam Jackson is lying on the street and Geena comes back for him...

    so cool and smooth...

  • Hi! I've seen the film you're talking about; in French, it's "Au revoir à jamais", with Geena Davis & Samuel Jackson, she put him out of the car,he stays lying on the steet and she comes to take him back! I was happy to hear this song at that moment,it's since I've hear this song that I've decided to play it these times to record it. Good film, with many greats songs ("She's not there" just before,etc...). BYE!

  • I try to watch this movie several times a year....

never saw it in French...have to try that out

could probably translate all by now : )

  • Martha and the Vandellas on background vocals.

  • sweety voices

  • wanting new friends

    ANY GUYS UP? Jf

  • My favorite MG song! Thanks for sharing!

  • thank you too for loving Marvin' music!

    ;)
