Neither you or I know what's gonna happen then, Greg. I do know one thing about modern so-called Christian music, and that is, that all the singers act like a bunch of ghetto monkies and call it singin' for Jesus . . . . What an insult to any creator.
Anyone know for sure why Greg left Petra? I heard that he and Bob were butting heads a lot and depending on who you believe that Greg either quit the band or was asked to leave after the Beat The System tour was over. At least Greg and the band were able to patch things up to do Petra's final concert together even if it was for only a few songs if that.
@Looking1231 Back in the day I heard he promised a friend he would make records with him and he was just keeping his promise. But I'm not sure if this is true?? Just what I remember.
@perkman1967 Never heard that but who knows? You would think that if that was the case that Greg could have done that during a break from recording or touring with Petra ala what Phil Collins and Genesis had going on.
Yep. A great performance by a good friend. When the Lord showed me this poem by J. Whitfield Green & gave me the melody for it, it really convicted us live for Him. Who knew how much time we had left, or what it would be like in the future! That was in 1973! And here we are today still serving Him! Someday I'd like to see this done as a dramatic video with all the images depicted in the lyrics.
Shame Volz left Petra. Never liked much of his solo stuff. Bob Hartman was a great song writer. Volz left Petra right when they were getting ready to explode. Petra was good with John (new lead singer) but they were great with Volz. Can you imagine all those post Petra albums with Volz on lead! Makes me cry little.
@perkman1967 I couldn't agree more. I was lucky enough to get big into Petra when the Beat The System release came out and I saw them on that tour. Hands down, to me, Greg Volz and Petra were made for each other. Nothing against the guy who replaced him (John since we was good also) but Greg sang on the majority of the Petra classics we all know and love (Coloring Song, Judas Kiss, etc etc)
@perkman1967 The River Is Rising is still one of my top 25 Christian CDs of all time. Lyrically and musically it is STRONG! If you've never heard that one, find it!! It's a great CD.
I had the opportunity to pick Greg up from Tyler, TX and drive him back to my church in College Station, TX. He was putting the finishing touches on this album at the time and had a demo. He played this song for my wife and I as we drove. He cranked the volume so loud - it was wonderful!! His concert at my church was incredible as well. Greg is a genuinely nice and humble man. He always gives God the glory for all he does.
I've seen Greg several times in concert and even got to talk to him after the show but I never seen him after the Exodus CD so thanks so much for posting!
The video editor should have used more scenes with the attire Greg X. Volz was wearing at that time marker so it'd look like it was filmed seperately from 2 different concert performances, but with the same song.
