  • thumbs up if your here cause of key and peele

  • In this scene, the uncut one from the actual movie, Denzel Washington doesn't say a word, and yet he speaks more than any other actor in it.

  • That feel when you will never own slaves

  • you should really fix the grammar in the description.

  • lmfao key & peele

  • Denzel Washington was just fantastic in this film.

  • key and peele

  • Key and Peele!!

  • Key and peele sent ME here

  • Key and Peele sent me here

  • OH WE'RE SLAVES WE'RE SO OPPRESSED HURR HDUUURRRHUDRRUUURRR

  • Denzel thanks for making me feel proud being black.

  • 1:47 that moment when you serve yourself cereal and theres no more milk.

  • As bad as this flogging was, believe it or not he is getting off lightly. One was usually hanged or shot for desertion back then, especially during wartime. Flogging in general was no longer allowed in about 1861, desertion was one of the few exceptions. He was lucky he wasn't branded which was also common back then.

  • @chrismc410 WTH??! While he wasn't killed the whipping was more demoralizing. Do you know whipping and beating a black man or slave was meant to treat them as though they were sub-human or inferior to whites. It was about putting a black person in their place. It was physical and mainly psychological torture. So F the whipping. I would have snatched that whip and beat all those colonels.

  • This scene would make any grown man cry. Just that one shed of tear at the end shows how much the whipping didn't bother him since he's been whipped several times before. It's just what he stands for that the man was holding him down. For all you racist scumbags, imagine the roles reverse. Also, imagine when you die, you'll answer to the most SUPERIOR BEING....GOD. He doesn't like people thinking they're more superior than him. It's in the bible, it's in the Koran, it's everywhere.

  • Amazing how media tends to lend itself to popular belief. This doesn't have anything to do with him still being a "slave". He's a desserter. Usually punishable by death back then (now a days they give you a pat on the head and ask if you're ok). This punishment was flogging and PLENTY of white soldiers received this punishment in the Army and even more in the Navy. Instead of watching it with "slavery" in mind, watch it for its historical value. A MILITARY punishment for a MILITARY crime.

  • @Quillons1

that is utter non sense, one cannot watch this scene without realizing what Denzel "was" a freed slaved in the Infantry, and yes, many white soldiers probably did get flogged, but I bet when those white soldiers removed their shirts, their backs didn't have scars from where they were "whipped", that's why he spit, to signafy that "this is normal for me" been there done that. and i guess him running away to get some shoes was wrong of him as well? especially with bloody cold feet?

  • @omni101 Get off your soap box. It's not "Denzel" we're talking about a fictional character "Tripp". So stop. And those white soldiers and moreso white sailors of the period, most certainly DID have scars on their backs. I've read PLENTY of period documentation to prove it. You think he was alone with cold bloddy feet? How about the white soldiers in winter of 1776 at Valley Forge that went through the same and some were executed for "mutiny". White soldiers. Suffering is not limited to blacks

  • @Quillons1

did this clip make you feel that uneasy that you had to justify "Tripps" whipping with "white sailors deserting @ Valley Forge? Then sir you are missing the point of the scene. I suggest you watch the movie again and this time in your mind replace all the characters with "White Sailors" from 1776 and maybe you'll feel better, I dont need to get off my soap box, I was never on one to begin with. I bet you'll deny there were, black pilots in WW2, but saying" white pilots died too?

  • @omni101 Wow, you really are one of those people they talk about when they say "It's just not worth it". White sailors didn't dessert at Valley forge, moron, white soldiers did. Valley Forge was on land. Sailors serve on things called ships that are water-borne. I don't need to replace anyone in the scene. It doesn't make me feel better to see anyone get punished like that. My point is that somehow it's all the worse because he's a freed slave but you would have NO empathy if he were white.

  • @Quillons1 now i'm a moron? And to clarify something here. If trip was a white sailor being whipped I would feel the same way. No empathy huh? And furthur more how do you know I'm a black person anyway? hhmmmmm

  • @omni101 You'd lose the "black pilots in WW2" bet. I am also a big fan of aviation history. We can talk about that all day long. Looks like someone must have just seen "Red Tails". Way to try and turn this into an "us vs them" debate. Like I always say, people like you have NOTHING without turning to racism. You'd be lost without it because you'd have no more excuses. Great job, you set yourself back a few years on that one. Now do we need to continue this dialogue? I think we're done here.

  • @Quillons1

WOW, how presumptuous of you, to assume I know nothing about aviation, I have you know I've been in the aviation industry for 22 yrs now, and no, not handling bags or checking in passengers and no! i haven't seen "Red Tails". But I know when a person is trying to justify their racist views by trying to silence anyone who disagrees with them on an issue like this. To say "people like you" what are you implying there? you sure you want to talk or do you want to "whip my back too"

  • @omni101 You really are a waste of carbon. I never made any presumptions about whether or not you knew about aviation. I stated I'm an aviation history fan. Nothing about my views were racist. This is how YOU interpret them, because you have no recourse. You don't like my viewpoint so you took it upon yourself to call me racist. Proving my point. I don't give a damn WHAT your opinion or views are. As for implications? I've made none. I stated clearly what I thought. Now, we're definitely done.

  • @Quillons1

Then i suggest you keep your "masked" racist dribble to your self, if you didn't want people to comment on your views, then don't waste your time posting them. and I dont need to have a plan of recourse for you. Plain and simple you're a racist and you were called on it. I bet you're not used to anyone doing that are you? Aviation history fan, try being a fan of intelligence first, then come back when you truly have something of substance to contribute on this clip from the movie..

  • @Quillons1 Did you watch the movie? He didn't dessert. He was trying to find shoes because the old racists colonels didn't give black soldiers shoes. So shut up about military crime when there was no crime. He probably wasn't even given the opportunity to defend himself knowing how blacks had zero rights back then.

  • @whateverman181 Yes, I've seen the movie many times. It's a good movie. You should watch it. AWOL and dessertion basically carried the same punishment. So YOU shut up until you have something intelligent to say. You know this is the only ONLY country where blacks still use slavery as an excuse? Way to keep your standards high. Remember, it was a WHITE Colonel that GOT them their uniforms and boots. And it was WHITE men that abolosihed slavery. How convenient your memory loss is. Hypocrite.

  • @Quillons1 You racist moron. It was the WHITE MEN who enslaved them in the first place! No one owes them any thanks after they ruined these peoples lives. Your racism is really showing.

  • @whateverman181 And you just summed up your complete ignorance in one sentence. You just placed the enslavement of blacks on ALL white men, even the ones who paid the ultimate price to gain freedom for the blacks. They don't deserve a bit of gratitude? Who's the rascist? You are the racist moron. Case and point how when you dont have any legit argument, you play the race card. Making me right AGAIN. Now go fuck your hand you racist pig. I think we're done here.

  • @Quillons1 Moron did you not just say that WHITE MEN abolished slavery as if it was all white men who wanted slaves to be freed. Are you such a ignorant uneducated simpleton that you can't see the hypocrisy in your arguments?!

  • @Quillons1 God bless you white man, may I have permission to suck your cock?

  • Read "Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass"- One of the most important books I have ever read.

  • THIS MOVIE SHOULD BE SHOWN IN EVERY HIGH SCHOO HISTORY CLASS IS THE UNITED STATES.....(THE REAL STRUGGLE) ONE OF THE BEST MOVIES EVER MADE.

  • some wanted to compare will smith to denzel, thats y im here smh somebody tell his talent is on a level he'll neva get to smh

  • its a shame all good actors are going old, now were left with the young wanabees and zak efron

  • Nowhere in any comment I have ever made disputed that fact. It was that reason, in addition to the want for a nice meal (in the tent he spoke of biscuits and gravy) for why this happened.

  • Big ups to Dizzy Wallin yelling "REFORM YOUR RANKS!" @0:23. Kudos to anybody who gets that reference

  • Judge William Adams liked this.

  • Gov. Andrew wanted the 54th to be an elite unit and so did not accept runaway slaves. In fact, among the soldiers of the 54th there was a private who was a medical doctor and all, or nearly all, of the men could read and write.

  • Flogging was banned in the Union Army in 1861.

  • But your man can smell like me.

  • i have never seen this movie and i am watching this clip cause he said he bent down and called on the spirits of his ancestors to fill him use his body as a vehicle for emotion and help him portray the truth of the emotion. Oprah has also said she does the same s many others. Very touching.

  • ALL HE WANTED WAS SOME BISCUITS AND GRAVY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @BROCKOLEE2617 and some damn shoes man... wtf

  • @BROCKOLEE2617 What are you talking about? He wanted proper shoes, since the regiment was deprived of it in the begining.

  • i love it. the tear i mean

  • Comment removed

  • when i first saw this scene i was crushed and heart broken seeing trip flogged for what i believed was due to his being a black man.

then when i saw the whole film i got the reason why he was flogged and what the point of this film was. so for my previous comment i apologies as i am not a racist but i do believe that white people are over-rated and that all colored citizens of the world have always been victims through out the 20th century, and that brother pisses me off.

  • @MrGamer990 i agree alot of us white ppl are over rated and yes those of a different have been victims in the past and in some place still to day. it pisses me off. Same way i know some ppl of different color pick on.Harass .. and make some ppls lives hell for years.one wrong doesnt deserve another. i hate the part in american history about slaves ... i wish it never happend .it was a moral wrong. i think ppl in general are over rated.. this movie was awesome in a lot of ways. (im not racist)

  • Watch mine in HD.

  • This scene says: You can beat me, but you can't break me.

  • denzel is soooo fine

  • Denzl Washington is the greatest actor of all time

  • Omg!!!! Denzel u the fuckin man!!!!!

  • A truly remarkable scene

  • god damn!!! denzel washington The Brother gives one of the most beautiful and damn great performance of his career and that says alot for the dude, as he is a fucking great soldier, and i don't say "actor" because you believe he truly was a slave to fucking white trash like these bastards, and sorry for that but he should of not taken it and kick some white fucking ass while saying:

"King kong ain't got white trash whipping ME !!!! " go denzel "the brother" washington!!! free the brothers!!!

  • Best scene of the whole movie. I have been looking for it for soooooo long! Thank you

  • crap! it made me cry AGAIN!!

  • you can't learn that in acting school

  • Thanks for the views

  • I looked for this because it is coming on tv tonight, but this scene is always so difficult for me to watch, although I have seen this movie more than a few times before. It simply always brings me to tears. Such DEEP emotion! =(

  • god damn it, f..k racism and any sort of racial discrimination. i am as i write this comment in tears and amazed just at how good denzel was in this scene, this got me thinking when the f..k will discrimination be over and why is it a black man at the time gets whipped?! why not a soldier who is disobedient towards his superior officers?! and to all the K.K.K and neo-nazis F..K You!!! long live the free men.

  • @MrGamer990 - I agree, but keep in mind that in this movie, the decision to whip Denzel's character is not because he is black, but because he was accused of a being a deserter. In that time, a soldier who deserted his troops was flogged in front of his regiment. In the film, this was a turning point for the regiment's colonel, Shaw, because he realized that while this punishment was the norm, it meant something very different to blacks, and that he needed to learn more about them to lead them.

  • best single manly tear EVER

  • @BassManqk he actually cries twice, two tears only in the whole movie

  • Denzel is AMMMMMMMMMMMMMAAAAAZZZINNGG in this movie. This scene left me dumbstruck the first time I watched it.

  • The thing about this scene is that it was VERY real. In the script he wasn't supposed to cry! Denzel said that the lashes were very real and that they were PAINFUL which is why he cried in this scene! AMAZING actor!!!

  • We watched this in my 8th grade Social Studies class. An amazing movie. This part was horrifying. He just wanted to look for shoes P:

  • @JayBeeMusic143 saw it in 8th grade to.

  • Denzel should have won best actor for this scene, not that horribly overrated training day.

  • @tmoney360 he won an oscar for supporting actory. He is not the leading one.

  • @tmoney360 wrong...denzel's performance in training day was just awesome, and MADE the movie...sure, it ain't the greatest, but denzels and hawks performances make the movie compelling

  • this part is very emotional and it hurts my heart to see how many black people were mistreated and whipped and treated like scum.some poeple dn't even talk about this stuff but it existed and god bought black people as a race far:)

  • The stare down with Shaw (Broderick) and Tripp (Washington) is awesome

and Forbes is funny with his accent!

This scene has so many emotions in it.

    Luv Glory!!

  • I counted 20 lashes

  • one of most powerful scene of cinema history!!!

  • So much of this movie is so historically inaccurate it is appalling. It's entertaining and that's all that matters to Hollywood.

  • Amazing scene. DW is the best!

  • my 8th grade history class is watching this movie because we are studying the civil war, but the version we are watching is the revised version by pepsi soda company, so they take out all the gore and all that, which really makes me mad cause i saw the real version and lots of stuff got cut out that made this movie so incredible!

  • Wait why did colonel shaw give them permission to whip him ???

  • @genny7172 In the film Trip goes AWOL and gets caught. Flogging was the punishment.....although in actuallity it was banned by 1863

  • He did not wince nor cry out loud!!..If you gotta cry thats how you cry

  • if you read the real history of the regiment, you'll see that none of this was true. The 54th was composed entirely of freemen; sorry to burst your bubble.

  • This scene in glory, Al pacinos shooting scene in Godfather, and Morgan Freemans scene in which he gets his pay role approved in The Shawshank Redemption....I have never scene such powerful use of eyes in a performance....

  • this is what won him the oscar :))

  • Unbelievable scene! This is why Mr. Washington won the Oscar - wow! Very powerful.

  • Denzel is THE BEST ACTOR!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Morgan Freeman should be able to intervene since he is God

  • that gotta hurt

  • One hard mutha. Makes RAMBO look like BAMBI

  • One hard mutha

  • skysthelimitproduction com black history

  • he's to hot for this scene, one can only marvel at his bod! ^^

  • y wuz he getting whipped

  • @notcoolenough94 he escape to find shoes

  • @notcoolenough94 He was a deserter.

  • this scene reminds me of the scene in "Good Will Hunting", when Matt Damon's character is describing being beat by his father. And when Mat's character was given a choice between two items the father would beat him with, and so he chose the one that would likely cause more pain and injury, as an act of defiance.,

  • Denzel is one of the best ever, but I have to give it to Tom Hanks as the best.

  • What a powerful scene

  • he is an amazing actor.

  • one of the most emotional scenes i have ever seen

  • Pain, suffering, frustration, yet defiance. All these emotions in one expression. Amazing.

  • denzel washington took that beating like a fucking boss

  • @CalamityParlor he took that beating like Man that couldn't do anything for himself except listen to the boss. But he took it like a MAN indeed.

  • this shows why hes the best actor of all times!

  • I love this movie. Denzel definitely deserved the Oscar for this movie. Thx for posting.

  • thanks for posting.impressive scene.
