@zeldasol LOL. Americans are the inventors of the world. America explores the deep sea and the heavens. America sends men to distant moons and brings them safely back to earth. Oh, and to the people who are saying that there must be an officer behind him on a "Dias", you clearly haven't been to a military parade before. Nobody walks infront of the Dias in a parade, even civilians. The salute was clearly directed towards the little Belgian Cadet Coporal who initiated the salute,
The command of "eyes right" is given by a drill commander to any officer who is the rank of Army Major, Air Force Major, or Lieutenant Commander (the navy equivalent) and above. However you're totally right, this Canadian drill commander is a really nice guy to afford this kid such an honour.
Way to make us proud, whomever you are.
Kudos to the Belgian Cadet Corporal, your salute was superb! :)
I don't think too many people realize the signifigance of the "eyes right" command. It is usually reserved for General staff, Commanding officers, and important dignitaries.
This boy, has gotten a salute reserved for them. And he is entirely deserving of it. Only a Canadian regiment, would do such a thing for a small, thankful boy.
Canadian soldiers, among the best, and most thoughtful of men.
As a very common bumper sticker in Canada states: "If you don't stand behind our soldiers, feel free to stand in front of them." We may not support our nation's reasons for sending our brave young men and women into harm's way, but dammit, they all know they have a job to do, and we should all feel immensely proud of the fearless and selfless manner in which they all serve, no matter how popular the action is. The young people who serve in our name, whether they are killed or not, are heroes!
That lad has STYLE. Props to his family for raising him right, and props to the NCO leading the marchers for his "Eyes RIGHT!" and returning that salute.

The only way to really know is to ask the man who gave the "eyes right" command. Why did he do it?
