Hi Jon, hey could you tell me how many inches clearance you have to have from the bottom of the bottle to the top of the mandrel to fit those together into the press? Thanks!
@FlatCatGear Well I want to buy a shop press to press the pvc coupler (if I ever find one) into the aluminum bottle & they only have so much working room depending on the model so I wanted to know how many inches it is from the bottom of the bottle to the top of the pvc coupler when it is on top of the bottle so as to get the right model of shop press. I am trying to support my 10 year old grandson's hobby of trying to make different alcohol stoves & am too small a lady to build a press.
@xanadu1jw The press that I use is hand made out of 2x4's. The openning is about 18" in length. I am afraid that a commercial presses typically do not have that kind of travel. I use a car jack to press the parts as the total forces required are very low. When I first started prototyping this stove, I used a board and a hammer. Best regards - Jon
I built this same stove design with 20% smaller cans; it still boils 2 cups of water within 3.5 minutes, using 20ml of alcohol. The use of carbon felt, helps with the possibility of spills. Thanks for sharing your design.
@MrJohnson0o For ease of understanding, I say 3/4 of a Tablespoon as a majority of people do not know what a mililiter is. The actual value is 20 ml or (.67 as you point out). Sorry for the confusion.

Those are pretty cool containers, I like your tooling setup too. wish I had some to experiment with.
Search on "Nichols Alcohol Stove" to see one I made that boils 2 cups of water in < 3 min.

3/4 Tablespoon? or 20 mL?
1 Tablespoon = .5 fluid oz
20 mL = .67 fluid oz.
Im going to guess its supposed to read 3/4 of an oz.
