I get so tired of hearing drummers who suck in these videos. It's nice to see a great drummer showcasing some skills in a demo vid. Drums sound great. Was looking for an electronic set however. I thought these were. My bad. Don't wanna piss off the neighbors don't ya know.
@mbdrmmeroc Hey brother, I saw how they mic'd the drum set. Seriously the ONLY thing we had on the drums was a bass drum microphone which was a Shure (don't know the exactly model) and there were overhead microphones in the actual television studio. Nothing else. The only thing we did to "modify" the drum set was put a blanket in the bass drum. That's it! Everything else is what you heard. Hope that helps :)
This guy is a phenomenon. I've been fortunate enough to hear him live. Mad rudimental skills and funky groove for days.
Oh, and I like the Traps drums. Very interesting kit. REALLY love the toms. Wouldn't mind putting together a hybrid kit of Traps toms with a conventional kick and snare.
Is stick rebound or bounce decreased on these drums? Would anyone recommend muffling the bass, or other heads? Would you do that with some tape and a piece of foam?
Stick rebound on the Traps kit is just like any other acoustic kit. The best sound from the bass comes when using a REMO Powersonic or an Aquarian Super-Kick batter side head. I would not recommend muffleing the toms, they have a fat sound.
@hoowahdruma I completely agree. Because the kit has no traditional shells muffling is definitely not necessary on the toms, kick or snare. When I played them the only thing we did was throw a double ply head on the toms to give a 'warmer' tone and they sound great. Definitely a must for a great sounding portable kit.
Firstly, impressive drumming...secondly, fairly nice sounds for ~shell-less toms/bass and minimal- shell snare...I might muffle the toms just a little bit...thirdly, I'm not always a fan of Zildjians - but these here sound nice...I have e-drums now - but I would consider getting these drums if I ever decided to get acoustic drums again...
Great versatility and technique. Creative solo, and good use of single-stroke "rolls." Folks, this is a good example of a kickin' drummer who can play with power, but has a great feel for percussion as music...musical drums, I call it (a'la Louie Bellson). Love this vid!
I set it up last night with the additional tom and it is crazy. I love the sound of the toms and how they ring just the perfect time not a dead thud like my current shell kit.
I'll post some video's once I get the chance to record them.

@solaco That's probably the biggest compliment I could ever get. Carlos was such an animal and such a talent. Died way to young :(

I'm amazed by the sound coming from these
shell-less drums! The tone is really good! And
the performance by Juan Mendoza is world class!
