how come japanese race cars dont usually use the stock engines that come with the car? is this due to race regulations that all cars must meet the same requirements?
@sub7viet The GTR's usually did. Some were bored out but same engine, till the R35.
People do mad things to cars...but these are like three little hooligans let out for some fun, then put back inside where they are out of harms way again. Angry cars. Love to have a go.
The FIA GT times speak for themselves. The NISMO/Gigawave Motorsports partnership Nissan GTR (It takes a partnership for Nismo just to enter the top racing leagues) is doing horrible. It placed some 25th in 2009, and it placed over 12th in the 2010. (Over 12th place is not listed).
@SecularTechnology Ouch that IS bad...(were talking about GT1 right?...NOT SUPER GT) well in ether case (to me) that seems to be the norm in GT (In-house tuners teaming up with another tuner) thanks for the info.
@workensmart even the super gt supra's started using v8's some hybrid too. it has something to do with the rules and regs, even honda's hsv race car uses a v8
@BundSama You can miss match engines and shells from different manufactures. I don't know about a Judd V8 but I know that other people have done crazy swaps. There are videos on youtube of people doing stuff like that.
@workensmart No I know that (I should have been more specific) I meant in SUPER GT, rules state that you can only swap a motor of same manufacture and I have a good example of a crazy German motor swap.....search up Mike Ryan Motorsports..
Will Nissan produce the road going version of the V8 powered, RWD GTR?? I have always thought it's the requirement in the FIA GT championship to have the competing cars homologated with road car version?
@jonndol Super GT (specifically GT500) are much looser than most GT classifications which means teams are free to do the following
1)change engines 2)add forced-induction systems 3)chassis may can be heavily modified, the car must overall look similar to its road-going variant. The rationale for this was to allow manufacturers to field competitive cars without having to spend large amounts of money for homologation versions of the race car's road car counterparts. I wiki most of this by the way

Why do they use V8's in the new GTR? I thought it was a twin turbo V6 for the street cars.

@turbonurbo It doesn't look right to me when a car like that sounds like a 60's muscle car. If they had judd V8's in the GTR's that would be cool.

@workensmart That would be cool; German powered Japanese car, too bad you cant use a engine of other manufacture......

NEW GTRっていうけど、R32はグループA仕様でこれはFIAのGT1の車だから音が違うのは仕方ないよ^^;
ちなみに、GT1クラスのレーシングカーはアストンもアウディもみんなドロドロした音だよ
R32の直6サウンドもいいけど、俺はルマンなんかの耐久レースで疾走するドロドロサウンドのレーシングカーも好きだよ^^

Nismo can't make a race car if they tried.
Swiss Racing Team had to do it for them.
