  • Also I have decided to name the times types of shots enemies fire at you.

Flapper Demons, Splitter Demons, and Master Demons shoot what I call raindrop shots.

Sideswipe Demons, Big Mouth Demons, and Flash demons shoot what I call lightning shots.

The bats begin in wave 5 and are present the rest of the game. They always shoot what the demons of the wave shoot.

There are eight demons in each wave and each type of demon appears for two waves.

  • This is a great game. I just read the 2600 manual and realized that they never gave names to the demons in this game. I have decided to do so.

Waves 1 and 2- Flapper Demons

Waves 3 and 4- Sideswipe Demons

Waves 5 and 6- Splitter Demons

Waves 7 and 8- Big Mouth Demons

Waves 9 and 10- Master Demons

Waves 11 and 12- Flash Demons (the hardest to beat, hard to hit)

After that the cycle keeps repeating. When they split I call them bats. What else?

  • i played this game sooooo much owned it for C64 and atari 2600 LOVED IT !!

  • PIXEL

  • God I loved this game!

  • I definitely know the patterns. For instance, you know how two adjacent waves have demons with the same shape? In the second of those waves, the demons seem to be more aggressive (shooting faster, and diving more swiftly). Starting on wave 9, the enemies have tracer bullets.

Another thing - there is an end to this game. If you complete wave 84, the screen goes blank. Guess they forgot to include a wrap-around chip that would go back to the first board.

  • "Let's watch that again in slow motion!"

  • He missed the pulsating mini splitting guys WOW how sad I can even find a video of anyone who has it perhaps ill have to play and post one.

  • I just hope none of them are distantly related to InuYasha. But on a serious note, great game, though I like the Intellivision version a bit more due to the "mothership" level.

  • lol he said "make a chart" of the enemy fire...wtf!

  • (((d(--_--)b))) this was my absolute favourite on the atari 2600

  • Great game. Just don't play it with a hangover.

  • A guy at the Big Bang Tournament In Ottumwa Ia broke the highscore and game time. He played for 11 hours straight. Just leting every fan of Demon Attack know :)

  • I beat Demon Attack and Missle Command when I was like 6. The endings are both the games simply crashing. I'd love to see a video of someone doing that.

  • @howitzer24 You would huh then perhaps I should do seaquest that's exactually what happened to me to man and I can still do it.

  • I just played this game again, got a score of 5870 which was the second round where they drop multiple small shots that drift back and forth instead of straight down like they do at 2:50 . I missed a few. I got farther than what they show in this game. ;)

  • The game ends somewhere between 102,000-106,000 points with the screen going blank. I was the very first to score over 100,000 points and have the patch and letter from 1983 to prove it. I had to die after 100K to take a pic before the glitch kicked in. I played many times after to confirm.

  • The game does have an ending, a crappy one at that. After somewhere between 102,000-106,000 points, the game will go to a blank screen. I got over 100,000 points for the first time and had this happened. I had to die intentionally after 100,000 points to take a pic of the screen to send for the patch (which I still have) for getting 100,000 points. I had the same thing happen multiple times, so I know that this is as far as you can go.

  • @scott9050 Same thing for missle command. If I remember correctly getting a million makes the screen go blank. I loved it when I did it.

  • @howitzer24 seaquest does something similar it entire resets but you can nolonger play and your score is back to 0 just as if you lost with out the color changing screen saver

  • OMG, Demon Attack for the Intellivision looks like garbage. And we thought the Intellivision had better graphics?

I mastered Demon Attack on the Atari. Wish I had known some of these tips. It would have saved me time.

  • lol Ataru

  • im 28 now. I used to play this when I was about 5. I never beat it though.

  • @only1jamesp yeah I got CLOSE but I never beat this one either this is one hell of a toughy

  • Great game I need to find this

  • My older brother and his friends used to die on every other board when extra lives maxed out to hear the one up sound. Now thats amazing form.

I had my Demon Attack chart tattooed on my ballbag. This is one of the best game ever made. I played it high a few times and man that shit is cookoo. Playing this game is as intricate as playing chess, knowing when the position is going to open up..etc..

  • Demon Attack (Ataru 2600, its atari for you..yes I mean the video title -_-

  • I used to go apes with this game, because I sucked at it!!!!

  • "very often you will get lucky and kill the beast as it is forming" I love the way this guy talks.

  • this was my favorite game as a kid. i still have it. i once hit 1 million points playing it one night. i was never allowed to play on weekends or after school without finished homework. and never more than an hour. this night i couldn't sleep and played the entire night. i thought once i hit a million points something cool would happen. i was wrong. the game just keeps going. i could play it now, but for just 10 or 15 minutes max.

  • my asshole hurts

  • if you play this game long enough the screen will go black and you have to reset to start again

  • fuck you

  • My cartridge didn't work either. I wish I had that rare one from Tulsa, OK as my family is from there. I bet my mom use to have the old rare one years ago.

  • my damn cartridge doesn't work, fucker!

  • Blow on the end then re-insert it. ;>

  • This is better than Halo3.

  • this game really looks good

  • I want to see the end of this game!!!!

  • I dont think there was one.

  • there wasn't an end. the boards just recycled themselves. there was something like 10 groups of enemies to kill, the last ones were oval shaped and flickered white to gray to black. once you finished off the last board you started the same thing over again. even though it sounds redundant, it really is an incredible game. i myself give it a perfect 10 rating. i have only felt this way about one other game and that was Legend of Dragoon. the only other 10 for me.

  • Seriously macked out game. When Activision and Imagic first appeared, they OWNED 2600 gaming. Chopper Command? River Raid? Atlantis? Dragonfire? Are you kidding me?

I'm not sure Atari itself ever caught up.

  • what a classic.

  • I thought this was a good game over all, I never got good at it or anything

  • "perhaps creating a chart is the best method" haha

  • This game had no ending. Twenty years ago I played it until it simply grey screened and crashed.

On a similar note Missle Command for Atari 2600 also had no formal ending. It would grey screen and crash at a score of 1,000,000.

  • Where's "Demons To Diamonds" for the 2600? W

hen will someone finally put out a video for that on youtube?

  • This was a great game. But boy, did it get hard when the demons split after you shot them!

    -MINESWEEP

  • I can't believe that no one has poasted anything about "Space Attack", a 1982 offering from M Games. I will have to fix that once I upgrade my computer so I can upload a recording. That was an awesome game as well. I took out 5 ships in a chain reaction. I see that "Combat" is not posted anywhere either.

  • There's an Ataru 2600?

  • Demon Attack was the first video game I ever played (Arcade included). In retrospect, I still think that's one of the better Space Invader inspired games. Still prefer modern games mind. Nostalgia by itself isn't enough for me...

  • Cool...like a combination of Phoenix and Space Invaders. However, IMO Laser Gates was Imagic's best game hands-down, as well as one of the 2600's most outstanding overall.

  • I thought the smaller demons were birds.

  • "Reminiscent" of Space Invaders.

  • LOL..I know..more like a rip-off of "Phoenix"

  • Yeah, I like Phoenix more.

  • Me 2...Phoenix rules!

  • As a kid i would have loved a program like this, it's good to look back and wonder where all the wonder has gone, will we in 30 yrs time look back at these games as we do 'what the butler saw' machines now....primitive, but with todays advanced games what will future generations demand from us...

  • "let's watch that again in slow motion" wtf? :))

  • hahaha!

  • Ha, I was sitting here nodding my head to most of that video, after years of playing Demon Attack. I never bothered much with just shooting while shots trying to get them as they first appear on the screen though, and I usually use guided missiles.

  • wicked!
