At last ~ I found it ~ after a long, long search. The ultimate version of this beautifully moving song by Franz Schubert, that I had picked for my mother's funeral in 1999. Thank you so much for your posting. And thank you ... to ... whoever helped me find it today ;o)
Leontyne Price, a lady that open many doors for Afro Americans in the music world in the United States. Her voice is simply wonderful and soothing. It is pleasure to listen to her recording. She is simply one of the best.
Beautiful! I have loved her since my college days, and tried to emulate her in vocal presentation. I used her records to help me prepare musical selections. GREAT!!!!
Again, thanks Gregory for availing Onegin65 this jewel of a lieder. Thanks Onegin for the post to your extensive audience and your opera fans. The German text and the superb English translation make of this experience a delight. Leontyne Price, again, proves to be a consumate perfectionist in every musical genre - her German diction is excellent.
I can hardly believe what a genius this woman is. For me, she is far superior to Callas. Personally, I cannot find a better soprano. Her German pronunciation is also absolutely perfect. How does she do it? Just hard work and a great great talent I guess.

So elegant, so simple, so pure!! The interpretation is perfect: less is more. The music world
has been blessed immensely by her presence, by her hard work & dedication to attain this expertise. A treasure, indeed.

I have a friend that has a lot of her records. I used to go over to his house and listen to them all the time. Ah, good times. :D

Few words could define the gravity and level of Leontyne Price's treatment of this prayer: lieder as it is here, perhaps "tenderness".
