You know how to tell what the baddest ass arcade games are? Look for the cigarette burns on the console. If the directions to the game are unreadable due to the number of cigarette scorches, then it's awesome. Double Dragon looked the same way.
For some reason i remember that from all the arcades I spent time in. Funny what one recalls from youth.
This is one of my favorites arcades games and video games in general.I played and beat both versions. The U.S version is called Black Tiger and the japanese version is called Black Dragon(this version was harder than the U.S)I was so good playing this game that I only need one quarter to beat it.This game is one of those game that you need to think before you move or jump and is a different game everytime you start a new game(sometimes they gave you more or less money, time, etc.
@Gaiden14 And here I was, hoping that I was the only person in history who could beat Black Tiger on one quarter. :)
I timed it, too. It took me 45 minutes and maybe a few seconds from kicking off Stage 1 to watching the third dragon's castle light up after his death. Faster speeds are possible, but I liked grabbing all the hidden power-ups.
Nowadays, it's like you can't beat a game without pumping at least $3 into it. Games you can beat on one play are products of a bygone age. :(
i remember watching a friend of mine play this on arcade almost 20yrs ago. i have been looking for this since i got old enough to play. does anyone know what system this game is available for. dammit i want it. it still rocks just watching it on youtube. however the player is awful, but atleast he IS playing and im sitting here wishing for it. someone help!!!
I used to love finishing this game. It was pretty easy to finish. I think the hardest part of the game was jumping to the other side of the cliff or mountain but i forgot which level of the game it was. It had to be timed exactly right!!
Hell yes! You are talking about the upwards jump at the end of level 7. 22 Years ago I (and my schoolmates) got stuck at that place and never did it to the other side. The trick was easy, keep the joystick in diagonal! That was the only jump in the hole game that needed to be done with a diagonal jump. I found out that two years ago. DAMN!
holy shit....I've had a dreamlike image of playing this game as a kid...but i could never remember what it was called. This is truly amazing. I remember playing this game for over 40 minutes on one quarter, as a crowd of adults began to form around the machine ,just watching me play. I really need to play this again. BT was a staple of my childhood, thanks for uploading it.
Hell yeah man, Black Tiger is the pwnage! They actually have it for the PSP as part of a Namco best of collection, I'm seriously thinking about getting it.
I believe the potions you are talking about cure poison (when you turn purple and can't fire daggers). If you are poisoned and walk over one or buy one, it should work immediately.
You only get more health bars when you reach a certain score...there are some hidden bonus point items in certain wall sections (which appear when you hit them) that will greatly help you in that area.
@MetalheadsAbyss You buy the blue potion to prevent getting poison by the enemy,if a enemy (who poison you if he touch you)touch you will use the potion automatically and don't get poison by the enemy.
Same here. I remember running into this one in a campground game-room long, long ago. Compton Ridge in Branson Missouri, I think it was. Might have been at a random KOA somewhere though. The title has eluded me up until now, thanks to the 'net.
i saw this a long time ago in the arcade, and i played this version, but they were 2 different versions. this version has 2 dragons as the last boss, but the one i saw in the arcade had a HUGE Red dragon for the final show down... the 2nd last boss was a smaller blue dragon, so whats going on? besides the dragon/tiger name change is there another version?
I used to play in the lobby of the Windsor University and a crowd of guys were around watching me play. I was the best...they loved me ;-) It's one of the best games I have ever played then and now. My real strength was GNG in that I RULED and its comparable to BT but I think a little bit more challenging on 1 quarter to finish.
One of my true arcade loves of all time, there are many but Golden Axe and sequel, and thanks to MAME and the boys that support it, it's playable again.
I remember when I played it for the first time over 15 years ago at some dingy arcade in a foreign country I was visiting. I didn't know the name of it back then but it haunted me for the rest of my life...
Fast forward to the present and with the discovery of MAME, old childhood wounds are healed at last!
If I lost a $.25 every time I hit "5" on my keyboard while trying to win this in MAME, I would be completely bankrupt. Mucho kudos to anyone who can get through this game on less than $1!
i played this game so much in the arcade i could beat it with one quarter, first life. beating the end dragon was easy, as long as you had the best weapon and 8 armor
