  • Niiiice!

  • so awesome.

  • That"s some MacGuyver $#@%!

  • you are awesome.

  • como se hace eso?..

  • This is actually the coolest thing ever

  • Wild man wild.

  • 16 people don't know how to drive.

  • that was coo

  • haha awesome

  • speechless... so simple yet who the hell has the intellect to think of this application for a driver's license it may be ugly as shit but you sir, are without a doubt one of the most innovative Live users I've come across. I'm sure you'll apply this technology in a nice neat package elsewhere and impress us even more (followed by you receiving phone calls from google engineer headhunters. Bravo! [sub'd]

  • Completely useless yet utterly COOL!

  • hi man nice template color u got what is it ?

  • 16 people don't have driven licenses

  • HE TAPED A METAL BAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • you forgot to tape over the zia

I got all excited when I randomly clicked on this and saw the nuevo m license

  • O__O

    WTF.

  • sik!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • ahahahaha ingenious idea...a couple of more and we'll going to break down the industry corporationds xD

    ...whats next?

  • fuck yeah dad rock on hard always

  • vaya frikada...el nota controla un flitro con una tarjeta de credito!!!

  • dont mean do be negative but how the f##k do we know thats you controlling it and not your mate sitting to the side. I could say im doing it with with my cock and do that. BUt any how if its more interesting than I've done. lol

  • dope shit

  • men, how make this circuit??

  • men, how make this circuit??

  • haha fuckin props dude

  • now that's sick! =D

  • iT'S SICK DUDE, LOVE IT :)

  • how do I make a haken continuum?

  • do you need road tax and insurance to make those sounds?

  • i 'liked' this video as soon as you said "i know you guys are freaks"

  • que programa es

  • or just use your mouse. but not bad anyways

  • Cool. Very good. Ribbon I have broken my Yamaha DJX keyboard controls and have given me a great idea. While that may have damaged the internal circuit that made it work. It appears that the liquid that was released a few batteries have corroded some vital parts of the Ribbon Controller. A greeting from Madrid (Spain).

  • that's fuckin awesome.

  • bwaaaahahahaha that is fucking awesome man!

  • great!!!

  • Freakin cool man!

  • i wonder wha kinds of freaky stuff the new ones with rfid chips can do?

  • lmao 5 stars

  • Cool. did that erase the magnetic strip?

  • savage!

  • damn man this is nice man nice beat too

  • how can I use it on my keyboard ?? I want to make a ribbon controller .

  • Driver's License as Ableton Live MIDI Controller = Awesome!

  • 5* qrwajó!

  • dude how can i make this to put it in my guita????

  • awesome 5*

  • Amazing Very Impressive

  • Quit fucking around with poor comments you cunt.

  • K00L

  • really ?

  • Hmm.... which version are you using? Mine doesn't have that feature. Maybe it's a plugiin. Anyway, have fun with that.

  • MrPiMpLiCiOus - Dont be mad cause its to complicated for you.

  • haha ur crazy man!

  • thank you i pride myself on nigger removal

  • youve never even met abelton

  • Fascinating. Sounds like a wawa pedal.

  • awesome!

  • haha i love how you called us freaks. you put it so perfectly for some

  • he is true they are a lot of freak in america lol:)

  • interesting i guess ... wonder how you figured it out. . . was it just at random lol

  • WOW!!!

  • why?

  • hahah! legend!

  • wow. fucking awesome

  • Guy... youre the man!

  • When old oparating systems becoming unmaintainable without robustness and flexibility needed for modern applications, ideas like this one are re-vitalising.

5***** from me,thanx for posting this.

  • Five stars. Respect man...

  • WHAT THE HELL

  • HAHAHAAHA cos i know you guys are freaks, wtf

  • i need to get the time and energy to figure out all of this midi stuff, i love this type of music and i need to figure this out :/

anyone got some good informative links about midi and how to create some music with it?

  • hi friend how do it this interface.. whats your my space ... mail.. or something

  • Nice template. Did you make it?

  • wow, thats interesting.

you know anymore weird things like this?

    im new to midi controllers

  • "wacka-chicka-wacka..."

Is that basically how a wah pedal works?

  • nope, the wah wah pedal is a ... pedal, and this is a ribbon. Both are just two different _mechanical_ ways to alter a variable. This variable can be anything: volume, resonance, tremolo, ...

  • Right, the wah pedal is a pedal, but inside the pedal, there must be... parts. What I'm asking is is this electronically the same? The same principle?

I'm not asking about the mechanics. For one thing, it's obvious that you can't do this particular trick with your foot.

  • With a wah pedal it's done 2 ways. The old way is a chain connected to a POT which turns it as the pedal is moved. The new way is a laser that senses the distance to the pedal (less mechanical breakdowns and POT noise).

This is a different technique. The software on the chip takes the voltage and converts it to MIDI to control an external signal processor, whereas a WAH uses this voltage to control internal circuitry (namely a band-pass filters frequency setting).

  • If you're talking about the sound....... The filter was a high-pass with some resonance. This means the high frequencies are allowed to pass while the low-frequencies are cut, with a lil boost to the frequencies near the cut.

A wah is a filter like this however it's a notch of boosted frequencies which is then moved around by the pedal.

The resonance (frequency boost near cut) is what you're hearing as "wah like", same effect, different settings.

  • very cool! but waste of time.

  • so is youtube.

  • lol

  • Not bad at all!!

Check my new track! "Get get down" :p

I did it with Ableton live and some VSTI

  • OMG

  • lol, thats awesome. hope that wont de-magnetize your license hehe

  • thats crazy! good job man!

  • dope!

  • Macalle' deirtenne, fde ,akiurento.... essenmo ede sdruppo.!!! canfon, deriol sesdsf gase.

    yubray ansuio pac.

    saki isle of St.Teresa

  • AWESOME!!!

  • man that was really creative... props to you

  • the skin is not ableton's skin. It's the VST pulled in as a plug-in. very creative utilizing your electricity know-hows. :)

  • nah i think that is ableton, a dark skin because thats the default audio filter at the bottom, you can get skins online somewhere, i've forgotten where tho

  • Very cool. What color scheme are you using in Ableton?

  • "To work on ducts and stuff"

  • to work on ducks and stuff

  • But i still cannot catch the words discribing conductive tape... :D

... conductive tape from "lows" used to a...

    "works on dogs, this stuff"

It is so confusing... plz help.

  • he said Lowes..thats a hardware store like home depot.....and he said "work on ducts", like a/c ventilation.

  • can someone explain what this guy said?

"and underneath I taped this metal band which is...."

WHAT GOES NEXT??? PLEASE WRITE, I don't understand....

  • You are basically making a potentiometer. The metal piece of tape acts as a conductor with which your finger (the "wiper") bridges to the input of the ADC. Just think of the metal piece of tape as a wire.

This is a potentiometer in a more primitive arrangement; that's all that it is. Either side of the magnetic band is equivalent to one of the lugs on a pot, your finger bridging to the metal band is the third.

  • first at all - thank you for quick reply.

Yeah, I know it makes a potetiometer, but the thing I missed is this silver band. I thought this is some special tape or so, but it looks like this can be regular wire as well :)

The most important part is magnetic band, right? with linear resistance?

Thank you so much for creating this impressive video, I'm building my own ketar and looking for solutions for making ribbon pitch bend. I guess your video IS THE SOLUTION!

    Thanks again! :)

  • "I blacked out all the important stuff 'coz I know you guys are freaks." I sniggered a little bit about that.

  • fucking hero you are :D

  • I sat in my chair like :O and watched this 3 more times...Awesome! I only wish NY had magnetic strips on our IDS!

  • fair play mate, thats really impressive!

  • This is one of the coolest videos i have seen.

Dude, would you be so kind to help me with my first midi controller?

I am using a PIC16F877 and I want to have only one potentiometer and a button; the pic is programmed with PIC SIMULATOR IDE.

  • you are Freak!!

  • My reaction, " Whaaaaat? That's wild" hahaha tight stuff

  • haha nice. sell the idea to ableton and make billions and billions of dollars.

  • what kind of ableton is that?..

  • You can change color schemes in Live.

  • fucking amazing... do you have any documentation about it?

  • Genius.

  • what midi did u used there? can u make a real song of it and upload it? because this is awesome!

  • Hey how you do the circuit ,

i wanna a simple midi control for my whammy pedal.

    sorry for my english

  • question.. did this fuck the magnetic band?

  • no, I am still able to access the gentlemen's clubs without incident; other bars too. It's fine.

  • respect

  • People's ingenuity is astounding! We can only ask how!

  • I would lIke to know the jobs working on ducks

  • DUCTS, not ducks...

  • what ableton skin is that?

  • I heard this guy made a loop sampler out of a lever-arch file and a piece of cheese.

  • nice work..amazing your a great inovator ..would you mine ?what circuit is that? may i know?

  • that is insane!!!

  • want schematic plox

  • Hard to believe but, DOPE!

    lol

  • Awesome! I'd love to see more about how you made that..

  • Nooooooooo.. sei un mito!!! hi hi hi..

  • i love you guy

  • duuudee, thats the most creative midi controller i've ever seen! nice job

  • nice work, bro

  • nice mang

    love shit like this.

  • haha... "caus you guys are freaks!"

    too fu...ing right!

  • yeah, must be simple getting a usb to serial interface and software to burn the code to a chipset that you probably soldered yourself, for a one-dimensional parameter range. You could always just plug in a 1/8th to 1/8th cable to your mic jack and just touch it with your finger and have it track the loudness. nah, too easy.

  • you should make that card interface go into a usb.. if you can sell them for like 10 dollars people in 3rd world countries will buy the hell out of them.

  • awseome! inventive. its like Post apocaliptic ableton :) all you need now are solar power cells to power you computer...check my vid out too :)

  • too much time. toooooo much time.

  • rofl im still stuck on making windups; leetness bro

  • who the hell would use that just to control a filter? lol I think you might have destroyed your license & that wouldn't go over well if you get in trouble with the law, god forbid.

all that being said, i live your creativity. I once used different thickness rubber bands attached to the tonearm mount & strung around the cartridge of a turntable to make an upright bass sound. I have no videos of it but i could make one if ppl are interested! cheers!

  • "because I know you guys are freaks"

Have you gotten rich off any of this stuff yet? I'd pay for some of the shit you do.

  • that was pretty sweet

  • wow, that bad ass man.

  • whos the freak ??? hahaa... love it ...dope !!

  • now i can afford a midi controller on my student budget!

  • is that true....?looks cool...

  • awesome man! Which is that circuit? You made or is it a part of another stuff?

  • whoa! immense!

  • this is innovation at its finest

  • are you using a BS2 stamp here?

  • amazing.... thats the way to do it. Think out of the box...

  • sweet

  • That host is a real jerk!

  • man, thats sick. cant wait til the cops give me my license back!!!

  • awesome 10/10

  • can u upload the skin on any, 1click filehoster, and pn me the url? i try to make the skin myself but it doesnt work :(

  • cool

  • Just a thought, but isnt there a conductive (yet slightly resistive) paint or strip that you could use? That way it'd be possible to make a larger controller board that has a chance to look good ;)

I considered using old audio tape but i figured that the plastic would stretch when used repeatedly.

  • The x/y controllers in my version of live aren't assignable and that doesn't look like any Live skin that I've ever seen. Pretty cool though!

  • Hi. I'm only controlling the filter frequency, which can be mapped to the CC of your choice. You can change the color of most objects in live by editing the skin in a hex editor (peekit for mac is free/great), or using the ableton live skin editor... I don't have the URL, but if you google "ableton live skin editor" you'll find it.

  • Cool.

What the hell skin are you using?

  • that's great - the macgyver midi controller!

  • Maaaaan you have alot of spare time :D great invension hahahahaha

  • i knew all these production companies like m-audio make cheap parts but never this

    wowsers

  • hehe, nice!
