no economy?what about tourism and the food and easily getting my Cook islands drivers license!! Ive been there once and keen to go back ,went from 30 degreesC back to chilly 2 degrees C in dunedin in one day lol!
@PunchDrunkLoveex i can only imagine how magical such childhood must have bin, not than i have any complains(being born in the Netherlands) but i would trade any day :P
i love rarotonga. its my home land and i am soo sad i cant live there right now. last trip was in 09 september and i met many new family and frends. i miss them lots. i almost cried when i watched this video. i no stupid, but i am really proud of the cook islands and i really miss it. i just wanna see my family and live there. i know most of the places were shown. if they had shown the avatiu sports club house i really wouldve cried. i miss that place. :(
oh yeah the wateva bar is a awsome place to go to,and just next door is rehab.both bars are very popular on the island..to those who are going to rarotonga dont forget to check out the pub crawl bus, cause they take you to every nite club on the island,i call it the party bus hehehe they have music, you can bring your own booze in the bus,but you haved too book the bus,so yep yep yep 30 people is the limit on the bus,so its better to invite friends and family to join in the fun..kia manuia

i used to live in rarotonga and it was amazing!!! there are hardly any laws and school is so fun. i lived there when i was 11 and 12 and it was the best time in my life!!! (o:
when im older, i want to live on an island for awhile. i wonder if its possible to do so. i wanted to do this since i was like 12 years old, now that im 21 i can finally do it. but i wander what the laws are like.
i dont want to live in a home or anything, i want to live like robinson crusoe, like the tv show, in BIG treehouse like way up there
soz but from what i know the economy in raro's just as bad as any other small island nation - too much inport over export. my friend did a thing about it at uni
Thanks for posting - invokes good memories. I took my two teenagers there in 2006 for their first overseas experience - spent 7 days staying at the Edgewater. When all you want to do is relax and get away from it all, this is the place to be.
I've been there nine times - it just keeps drawing me back. Beautiful islands, beautiful people.
At 2:48 that is my fathers green internet cafe! Haha, His name is Douglas - or as he prefers to be called "Dougie". Best "Thick Shakes" on the island, trust me - aint just because he's my father lol.
this place should be closed. or at least there should be a special permission to get there. firstly, you got everything invaded by unwanted missionaries then there are loads of tourists which think that everything is their own. or at least, if you visit, please leave it as it was. this is not a 'paradise' for everyone. thanks.
Meh, I have a cook islands girl out thurr who likes me alot, I'm not just gonna leave her - im cook islands maori and papa 'a/ pakeha! ;-D It is paradise, and the clothes that you have, the things you own, the computer you use - is from different parts of the world. The people that come to the cook islands fund the very 'western' lifestyle that is so apparent on Rarotonga. Think about it!
anyone know what is the music from the video? it sounds great. (I am reading the book an island to itself by Tom neale , thats how i came to see this video, its a very interesting book)
The music is the Welcome Song from Te Arekarioi Nui, performed by the Cook Islands National Arts Theatre.
I hope you're enjoying the Tom Neale book. For those who don't know, it's an amazing story of how Tom survived alone for 15 years on the remote island of Suwarrow in the Cooks. I can't recommend it too highly.
oh what...thats sad to hear, ive never visited those islands and yes we should take note of the climate change which we have done.. but only on a high scale here in oz over the last few years...
but it still saddens me whenever i go back to Rarotonga and see a little piece of an area has dissapeared not to mention my mum and grandmother are buried near muri beach just past the pacific resort.
thank you for the education on Rakahanga and Takutea..
I vacation there every year and have been to the Cooks 5 times now. They're the cutest, most adorable little islands I've ever seen. And the women are as hot and sexy as females can get.
OMG I nearly cried! and I'm sure I saw some familiar faces! and it's nice to see some recent footage...I hear the chinese are also building us a police station I'd like to see that lol! oh I miss that place so much *sulks* I feel a bout of homesickness coming on! last time I was there was 2005/2006 I think oh gosh I can't wait to go back!
The police station is built and open. There's now a plan on the table for the Chinese to build an upgraded back road on Raro. And I'm glad that I helped to bring back happy memories for you.
I'm sure it will be. If you take a go to my website (see details attached to this video) and click on the "Round Raro Tour" button, you can get a complete guide to the island and some personal recommendations on where to go and what to see. Have a great time.

thank you for the education on Rakahanga and Takutea..
Rarotonga is relatively safe compared to some of the outer islands. Rakahanga is only a few feet above sea level and probably at greatest risk. Takutea, although uninhabited is an important wildlife santuary but it's just 20 feet above sea level. Australia and the USA take note and stop ignoring the threat from climate change...please.
I have always found Rarotongans to be among the warmest and most friendly people in the world. And the way you behave towards others dictates how they behave towards you.
