  • I played this game in my Oliveti 386 9Mhz proc and 3mb om ram :)

  • I dont remember this bad sound of this game on amiga

  • These games had soul and personality !! Dont it bring Back the good old days ! Something about it so simple and pure BUt in its day amazing ! AMiga 500 was Kikass ! share games and Copy them ! I miss them days Badly :

  • R.I.P Papyrus Racing Games

  • Only way I ever won a race was to drive backwards on the course, cause HUGE accidents, then lap at my own leisure. I was however 5 at the time :D Worst part was I played for months using the pc speaker, then I found out you could use the -a switch to use the sound card. d'oh !!

  • Omg, i played this game for hours non stop when i was a kid man! tnx for share!

  • f*ck realy 3d in 1989!

  • Great game. I had never finished 200 laps, my record is 138 laps.

  • Man, I remember playing this when I was 12 years old (though it was back in 1997). I also remembered that when you choose Race, you're thrown right into the action. Kinda repetitive, and unless you're good at maneuvering your car, you'll always get caught in those messes of colliding cars.

  • such a totally awesome game, the crashes were brilliant and the graphics totally amazing for the time. It was actually exciting to play this game and I spent months if not years on it!

  • My first PC Game ;..)

    with PC speaker!

    486 DX 33Mhz

  • This game was so great in all its simplicity! It was much better than lots of racegames that came afterwards.

  • 3:37 And then bits of shit were flying everywhere!

  • the game looks good...wxcept for the crowd...way too much like tv static

  • that music rocks!

  • used to play this during the 90s. luckily I saved the game into a diskette, after long time I managed to copy it into USB. who knows if its possible to run on xp/vista nowadays ? since i got the complete file, do I need an emulator or what? tnxs !

  • @dmtharpua youll need dosbox...no idea on how to use it though but it is used to play dos games....so it is effectivly an emulator of old pc's

  • such a smooth game in its day loved it but hard on long races one mistake on a full length race and thats it start again

  • wait, that says papyrus designed it and EA and IMS presented it? EA? EA?

  • I love the sound !

  • Pretty Good for 1989, I think the sound is pretty annoying tho, but ideal for getting my own back on our stupid neighbours who have music on all day and all night 24/7.

  • This was the game why I bought my 500KB memory extension for the Amiga 500. LOL... Man i've played this many many hours....

  • Was fun to make huge crashes :P

  • BTW theres a glitch near turn one that you can pass through the wall and drive all over the infield.

  • What console is thios on the NES?

  • @thebig1 , no this was a PC game.

  • thebig1, This was a PC game from back in the day.

  • @thebig1 nes can never have a game like this...this is a much bigger game than any nes game as nes is just an 8 bit console. also nes cant have games that even look like this

  • school favorit

  • I remember getting this game thanks to Rusty and Eddies BBS. Still have it saved on disk somewhere. Winning the race never mattered to me, all the fun was in driving in the opposite direction and causing massive chain reaction accidents. If you killed all the other drivers before any could finish, you could turn around, run out the race and take first place.

The game looked nice on my Tandy 1000SL and I think it even supported the Tandy's 3 channel sound.

  • who else went the wrong way round and crashed into everyone?

  • i do that with every racing game

  • @CozImMrBrightside I've done that numerous times..)

  • @CozImMrBrightside that was my Fave thing To do and watch the crashes In replay Loved it ! never finished a race AHAH! classic >

  • fuck those crashes were some of the best ever in race games.

  • OK this was made by EA Sports right yes, im right.

Ok the thing that EA has never changed is how fucking annoying the gameplay is and how fucking annoying the music and car sounds are

    EA SUCKS

  • The new EA = Un necessary sequels and expansion packs = sucks

The old EA (a.k.a. DSI Software) = Fucking awesome games like Test Drive, Stunts, and this game = AWESOME

  • not made by EA

  • look at 0:11 and you will see "Presented by The Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Eletronic Arts)Ea is eletronic arts

  • It does say EA your right. Your also right that EA really do suck.

  • @JimGammy they used to be a pretty good company....but their new games are complete ass

  • Simply the best Indy racing game I ever played! The crashes were incredible too.

  • i used to sit out the first lap and wait for the pack and try to make a huge crash.

  • Oh, the game runs so smoothly because the cars are 2D, not 3D.

I was almost confused as to why it was so smooth...

  • The cars are 3D. The trick that david kaemmer used was to show only 30 polygons each frame. Far objects were reduced automatically. It was written in assembly language, which increases the speed and allows the cpu to drive 32 ai cars without slowing down. The game was made for a system with 570K of RAM.

The physics are written in assembler too, using fixed point math.

I read that in an interview with david kaemmer.

It´s Unbelievable but he did it that way.

  • Physics engine was great even back then.

  • My favourite racing game when I was 13!!!! Good old times!

    ^__^

  • fantastico..questo lo distribuivano in italia con Jackson libri e lo comprai alla 5a elementare!

  • lol

  • Ah that game was grat back in the dasy. My fist racing game ever!

  • it makes me think of mario :S:S

  • I remember this game... the most beautiful one I had on my old 386 !!! And with funny sounds! :-)

    Semplicemente eccezionale!

  • Why did they use to use sounds like this. Were they not technical enough yet to put real sounds in games?

  • hahaha, i remember this game. any bump or crash the sounds effects hahhaha brbrltbrlbrltlbrlblrlbrbt lol :D

  • Ohh, and I used to drive backwards just to hit the other cars.

  • Nice. I had this game. The yellow car was the most difficult to drive. I've never finished a fucking race.

  • I will NEVER forget this game. I was abt. 13yrs old (1993) when I played the "real" 500miles. It was on lap 149...I was leading by 2 laps when I hit a car while overtaking. I was soooo f*ed up and angry, I NEVER played the game again.

  • Well im 16

  • @Schnellbusfahrer Sound familiar but with IndyCar Racing 2. Sometimes that game made me really angry.

  • anyone know how they made it look so 3d without using a 3d engine?

  • old non accurate mathematics calculations

  • @Sclorched True 3D engines didn't exist until the late 90s and there was many other games with good 3D back then. NASCAR Racing 1 and Indy Car Racing 1 only came out a couple years after this, and they looked far better.

  • Comment removed

  • @Sclorched:

They did use a 3d engine. This is real 3d.... It's very low polygon but it's true 3d. Don't listen to combomember ;-)

  • I played this when I was 5-7 years old

  • Wow! I used to play this back in 1992...

    Bad Ass!

  • The Amiga version of this had much better sound, other than that, the graphics were the same!!!

  • I wonder why most people play this with the internal honker sound. The game actually supports AdLib sound, which obviously sounds much better than the PC speaker version.

  • i love this game and got a copy of it online, and was curious to know if anyone has a good setup for this game or knows of a place to find one cause i cant seam to find one :'(

  • the one i did is soo great , and you need a joystick to control the steering proffesional

  • @Instantreactions if I remember correctly, one of the default setups only requires a minor air pressure and gear adjustment to get you to a 232MPH average, up to 240MPH once you get used to it. My top average speed ever was 247MPH but I don't remember what I did to the setup to achieve that... I just know it was with the yellow car. Each car has different characteristics, btw. So test em all out.

  • This was the first game I ever tuned a car in. I had the original manual, and it was full of tips and information on how camber, suspension, type of tire, gear ratios, booster and such items worked. I was probably 12 at the time, and I read the whole thing, and tuned the Cosworth (Which could barely turn on stock) and won a 30 lap race! I was so excited, and this is what got me into racing sims for the first time ever.

  • and seirously i could never ever really finish a lap in this game wihtout crashing i always loved trying to pop my tires hahahahahahah

  • lol omg i loved this game when i was young dude im 24 now i played this shit when i was like 4-5 some shit omg this is a great reminder of my childhood thank you for making this video hahahah

  • Played this game a lot..... half the time I went the wrong way, smoked all the cars then finished the race.

  • hahaha. me 2

  • Hi! I'm an italian boy,I'm 18 now. I remember that when I was a kid,in the mid 90's,I loved this game!! And now,10 years later, watching this video I remembered all the happy evenings passed playing on my old computer...especially i remember how much i liked the opening music..aaah! good childhood days!!!

  • this game was so cool, had it on the Amiga... you can reset the options to remove all the crowd and infield decorations, and it ran at a really good frame rate, much less choppy... .... i remember how hard it was to drive the car with a full tank of fuel and durable tires and as little downforce as possible ...

  • The intro song on the Amiga is so much better.

  • Nowadays I often play with this game, I want to win the 200 laps race... the 60 laps race is very easy to win (of course without any cheat)..

  • I loved that game!:-)

  • I saw my cousin play this. His strategy on 10 lap (you can't crash but enemy can on 10 lap race) was to kill all the other cars and finish the race himself.

  • I remember i sometimes turned direct that I went to towards them and crash everybody out of the race that i can win the race, with 10 laps of course.. lol crash sounds are nostalgic.

Every time when i saw spark ahead, it was quite exciting moment to see what is ahead and tried to avoid to crash.

  • @umpisuoli87 Yeah man, no other game gave me that buzz, the feeling you get coming up to the wreck, and of course the fun of the 10 lap DEATH RACE!

  • @leerees Have you managed to finish the whole 200? I've done that once with Cosworth, ofc I was like 15-25 laps behind the leader, but my final position was 13th. and cars were still about 21.)

  • @leerees Have you managed to finish the whole 200? I've done that once with Cosworth, ofc I was like 15-25 laps behind the leader, but my final position was 13th. and cars were still about 21 left.)

  • Yeahh...! ]:D i reamember all this sounds. i played this game on my PC386, it was crazy :D !!! Great stuff.

  • I miss this game...

Can I play it in Vista?

  • maybe via DosBox?

  • DosBox?

    Where can I find?

  • I'll get back to you.

  • Use a program called WinUAE. Google it and download it. Then findthe adf file for the game, then download some kickstart roms then play :) thats what i do anyway :)

  • Maybe, the best car simulator in that time.... I really had a lot of great times playing this one... THANKS for putting this here

  • I remember that, what a game, what a game! :)))

  • Ahh, the good ol' times...

  • I got this game with the original discettes, box and manual from EA games =D Good memories!

  • INCREIBLE JUEGO ,el juego que mas machaqué hasta que salió el UnReAL.

  • this was a great game to play back in the day. I still have it, though I don't have the manual anymore, so I can't answer the question to start the game.

the only way I could ever win a race though, was to take everyone else out first.

Anyone remember an old Dynamix game called "Death Track"? it's like Full Auto, only back then it was more original.

  • I fucking love this game.

  • Good memories!

  • State of the Art of its time

  • The Sounds Are so Bad

I think i Need Buy New Speakers Now

  • where can i find this game again...!! i loved it!

  • Any chance to turn your Ad Lib or Soundblaster ON? 'just miss those realistic engine sound effects ever built on an FM sound chip.

  • i have this game still now. i love it

  • geiles Spiel

  • Superb! I used to love this game - once get a 240 with the Buick. Only the once though...

Any ideas where I could pick it up today?

  • The comment deleted by mistake , generally using DOSBOX and downloading the game from dos websites like home of underdogs and abandon websires.

  • HA! Checked this out again. Of note - I ran a 234 in a Buick with a keyboard back in 1992-ish. :)

  • Yes, i ran @ speed 243 mph , i also lived in this game on the game's year (1992) :D

  • Heh, I was up to 15th once on the backstretch of the first lap with a qualifying setup for the Penske.

  • I lived on this game in college!

  • Ahhh yes, the classic Indy car crashes. My favorite part of the game.
