Multi-millionaire Goldman Sachs chairman Peter Sutherland, who has called for harsher austerity measures, is claiming a state pension worth more than €50,000 a year.(Irish Independent)
FORMER government secretary general Dermot McCarthy is just one of 99 top senior civil servants to retire on "maximum pension benefits" since January 2008, at an estimated total cost of almost €300m to the taxpayer -- or an average of €3m each.
IRELAND'S top former civil servant Dermot McCarthy left public service with a pension and retirement package worth more than €700,000 - paid with money borrowed at the expense of Irish citizens. Will he emigrate? To Monaco?
Iceland has pulled off an economic resurrection that has pushed the cost of insuring against an Iceland default below the average for the European Union.
Landsbanki can probably start paying claimants later this year, Economy Minister Arni Pall Arnason said. "These simple facts should change completely our understanding of the old Icesave dispute," Arnason added. "There is nothing to dispute any longer."
Their President refused to sign an order forcing taxpayers to fund bank debt!
the depressing thing is that this has happend before and it will happen again,
voters never learn, consistently voting for TWO corrupt parties. And now Lenihan is dead so some people have a sense of sympathy about the whole thing, get fucking real. Get out while you can young people, fuck the whole lot.
Moody’s Investor Services said it was lowering Ireland’s credit rating to “junk”, or Ba1 from Baa3, and also kept a negative outlook. The agency, which downgraded Portugal last week, cited similar reasoning: That private sector participation likely in future bail-outs will raise the cost of borrowing for “peripheral” countries..(Financial Times 12/07/11).
BANK of Ireland is to pay more than €7m in bonuses this year to senior management and staff despite the taxpayer becoming the majority stake holder.(Sunday Independent)
If this coalition government is serious about it's election promises it will pass a law which taxes these bonuses at 100%!
The European Parliament will today back down and order the release of a secret report detailing the widespread abuse of expenses by MEPs.(The Independent).
Congratulations to Irishman Ciaran Toland for taking the EU to court in order to make the daming report public.
Has the ECB decided to ignore the financial tsunami approaching the eurozone until the publicly owned assets of the piigs are privatised?
The trade export figures from Germany have been very good. Germany does not want euro devaluation & inflation problems. Will Merkel's successor leave the euro to establish a strong "Nordmark" currencey with Holland,Luxembourg,Finland and leave the others with a greatly devalued euro and a chance to trade their way out of recession? French Banks?????
"National survival requires that Ireland walk away from the bailout. This in turn requires the Government to do two things: disengage from the banks, and bring its budget into balance immediately." (Morgan Kelly, Irish Times 7/5/11)
@knilmart You do realize that's actually false , Fianna Fail are shit I know but our population is booming so that argument is false and there's no need to emigrate now apart from being selfish people in the fifties had NOTHING . We can't just run away when the going gets tough !!!!
EDUCATION Minister Ruairi Quinn last night failed to explain why FAS was allowed to spend €300,000 on a public relations contract -- even as he warned schools that more cuts are on the way.(Irish Independent 27/04/11).
BRIAN Lenihan signed off on a raft of generous salary hikes for semi-state bosses while the economy was in free fall.
For example, the chief executive of the ESB saw his basic salary cut in 2009 from €458,000 to €432,000. But payments under the heading "other" increased from €121,000 to €248,000, which meant his total remuneration package actually increased from €654,000 to €752,000.
Rating agency Moody’s has downgraded long-term deposits at Irish banks by two notches to junk status.
"Moody’s is no longer incorporating any systemic support in the unguaranteed senior unsecured debt ratings of the domestic Irish banks and these are now placed at the same level as the stand-alone ratings of the banks.”
Moody's have cut foreign and local currency Irish Government Bonds by two notches to Baa3 from Baa1, just above junk status.(Irish Times 18/04/11).
In an opinion piece in the 'Financial Times', Mr Smaghi of the ECB said Ireland's taxpayers should foot the bill as they are the ones that benefited during the pre-crisis boom years and elected the governments that regulated the banks as the problems built. (Irish Independent).
The Irish voters have exchanged tweedledum for tweedledee. There is no appetite for real reform. Who can take the country seriously when it asks for more favourable loan terms?
Eugene Sheehy was Group Chief Executive of Allied Irish Banks Plc and now subsists on a pension of just €458,000 a year, thanks to Paddy Citizen & Trichet of the European Central Bank..

Fine Gael Dublin North TD Alan Farrell hired his wife as a parliamentary assistant after his efforts to get her elected to his vacant council seat failed.(Irish Independent 31/03/11)
"OF course, Ireland has few friends in Europe at present. You have bust banks, a broke economy and McCreevy was a c*** when he was here," one senior diplomat exclaimed when asked of the true feeling towards our country."
"It's not personal, the Germans tell me. Why should they pay for our banking crisis and our overpaid public sector, who earn at least one-third more than theirs, they ask.
France, however, is seeking to torture Ireland for the crimes of our bankers."Irish Independent 27/3/11.
Enda Kenny @ €200,000 will still be paid more than the British prime minister David Cameron, whose pay is £142,500 or €163,000 at yesterday’s exchange rate.
Ireland is bankrupt!
The Department of the Taoiseach confirmed the budget for providing secretaries to ex-Taoisigh was going up from €166,000 last year to €300,000 this year.
The gravy train rolls on! Reducing the number of ministers' cars and insignificant pay cuts are not enough!
Enda should let his fellow heads of government know that Ireland is contemplating encouraging further multinational investment with a unilateral cut in the rate, bringing it down to 9.9 per cent.
Ireland's tax is Ireland's business. He should point out that Ireland is not in a position to repay its mountain of debt, that Europe has a responsibility for our plight.
After the EU summit he should announce that he intends to hold a referendum on the EU/IMF deal.(Shane Ross, Irish Independent).
mickey martin's out of control leprechauns want futures in the Senate.
A LARGE NUMBER of long-standing fianna fáil senators have defied the wishes of party leader mickey martin by declaring as candidates for the forthcoming Seanad elections.
"The ECB had to act for the eurozone as a whole" was Mr Trichet's reply to "an interest rate increase next month(April 2011) is the last thing needed in Greece and Ireland, hardest hit by the debt crisis".
European Bank President Jean-Claude Trichet ordered Lenihan in '08 "You must save the banks any at any cost". Boy scout Lenihan made their private debt Sovereign Debt.
An investigation ordered by the Department of Finance shows B of I paid staff bonuses totalling nearly €66.4 million from September 2008 to the end of 2010.
Other financial institutions covered by the bank guarantee scheme have paid out a total of almost €46 million in bonuses between 2008 and 2010.(Irish Times).
Total €112.4 mil.
Bank of Ireland is to pay €2 million to the exchequer for providing "MISLEADING" information on bonuses paid to staff.
Strangely no official records exist to support the view that the soldier of destiny incompetents were warned of the dangers to the economy by the Dept. of Finance(Irish Times).
The overpaid union cosseted civil servants happily shut their eyes.
ALMOST €21 billion in senior bonds is guaranteed under the revised Government bank guarantee scheme, new figures published by the Central Bank show.(Irish Times)
Bertie Ahern and his finance ministers Charlie McCreevy and Brian Cowen shattered the public finances by ignoring repeated warnings from their civil servants over the course of a decade.Irish Independent (02/03/11).
The most irresponsible budget decisions were made to buy elections. The voters fell for this from Haughey's time on. Let's hope they have grown up.
Fret not for FF, the foreign bankers have assured them a generous consolation prize, just watch. Their replacements, likewise, need not worry about elections if they do as told.
Today's independent review of year after year of Irish Department of Finance warnings to Government over the past decade proves that Bertie Ahern and Brian Cowen and Fianna Failed are fucking lying gobshite shyster scumbags.
"Nobody told me about the problem in the banks"
"The cheapest bailout in the world so far"
"The IMF are not in the country"
MOTHERFUCKING TRAITOR BASTARDS - THEY SHOULD ALL BE SHOT !!
David Mc Williams: "Article 27of the Irish Constitution provides for a referendum on ‘‘issues of national importance’’. Maybe the best thing a government could do after the election would be to call a referendum on the bank debt straight away.
This would give them the mandate to say to the ECB that we can’t do anything other than give the debt back to the people who own it".
@2LisbonTreaty McWilliams is absolutely right - this debt is unjust, immoral, and illegal.
I am not in debt to anyone. So why then should I be held morally, financially, and legally responsible for the debts of shyster gamblers and speculators who I don't know and whose transactions I never authorised ??
The actions of the Fianna Failed Government to date are, in my eyes, CRIMINAL and NEGLIGENT.
Any way you look at it, it amounts to deliberate, cynical, State-sanctioned THEFT and FRAUD.
"The ECB, would be stumped and the process of recovery would start. As someone who has worked in distressed debt markets for a large bank, I know the bond market would reward us for such a move by opening up and financing us readily.
The balance sheet would be strengthened based on bank debt renegotiation; therefore the sovereign would be saved from debt default and the game changed."
@2LisbonTreaty Fianna Failed are the biggest subversive organisation in the State.
They did not respect the will of the people on the Lisbon Treaty 1 and attempted to use the judiciary to prevent the holding of by-elections.
They have sanctioned the biggest combined bank and natural resource robbery in the history of the State while allowing their judiciary to jail people for protesting.
The ff party debt was 3 million euros BEFORE the election. The severance payoffs & pensions to it's wastrel ex ministers and trick cyclist tree huggers far exceeds this sum.
This is all added to the National Debt! Some mistake surely.
please excuse my language but HAHAHA you got beat down by the people of this country you dirty fucking scumbag knackers and your green tree hugging wankers got totally wiped out with ahhhhhhhhhh ZERO SEATS so haaaaaaaaaaaaa the people have been waiting for a very long time for this day to punish you dirty rotten lying traitors and that day has come and thank god yous are out ! you fucking sell outs ,europe loving arse licking corrupt basterds and you and the green party will never be excused!
F.G. has promised to reduce business rents. This reduction will put downward pressure on the value of NAMA property assets, which are being sold to repay the banksters debts. Will F.G. honour this promise, and reduce rents which will slow repayments, or bow to the ECB/ banksters?
If Irish business is squeezed out of existence the debt will not be repaid anyway.
Fianna Gael must be careful not to become arrogant & uncaring. Very powerful influences will whisper into Enda's ears. When the voters come to destroy FG next, who will replace them?
Scumbags. Fianna Fáil should be tried for crimes against humanity in the International Court of Justice in the Hague. Genuine Nuremberg Trials needed here.
lets just hope Fianna Fail don't get ANY seats in this election.......it wasn't the Green partys fault, FF had already spent a decade ruining Irelands' chances at a good economy by the time the Greens came in to gov 3 years ago. Vote Labour or independents.....FG aren't much better!
More than 110 countries allow passport holders living abroad to vote. Irish citizens living abroad are denied the right to vote. Politicians are so scared of reform that this is unlikely to change. It is noticably absent from Fianna Gael's policies & from mickey martins leprechaun ideas.
Vote ULA and Sinn Fein . We need strong voices in opposition that will stand up for the Irish people and be straight talking with the incoming coalition government . Fianna Fail and the Greens will not speak for the people because they are the ones who sold us to the IMF and EU and now we are slaves to them ! people, we really need radical change and I want people to stand up for the ordinary people and fight for their issues in parliament . A breath of fresh air is needed and not old faces !!!
Even Brian Lenihan, finance minister who has steadily guaranteed that senior bondholders should not be hit, said recently the government wanted a “substantial discount” on remaining unsecured senior bank bonds.
A referendum is to be held by the Government of Iceland to decide if it will reimburse the British & Dutch Governments for the amounts they paid in guaranteed sums to depositors in their countries.
In a concession to Iceland, the interest rate on the debt was cut to 3.2 per cent, compared with 5.55 per cent previously, and the repayment timetable lengthened.
Amagerbanken was the first Danish bank to fail since the expiry last September of a Danish bank guarantee scheme that had previously protected depositors and senior creditors from losses.
Deposits up to €100,000 are still safeguarded under Danish regulations.
Senior creditors and some depositors face losing about 41 per cent of assets.(Financial Times)
Ireland's Catholic bishops will warn that the "wounds" caused by financial turmoil and government austerity measures could lead to violence in the streets.
Dublin Archdiocese alone lost 12.7 million euros invested in Bank of Ireland shares.
Don't the Irish voters realise as their failed state catastrophically defaults, that ALL State Assets including ESB, Water Supply, forests, and best beaches will be sold off at fire sale prices. Could the Defense Forces be sold to Halliburton?
I will never in my life vote for this brass neck party. After 13 years in power .450,000 people unemployed,Thousands in negative equity,Billions in debt,1000 emigrating a week,S&M on there knee's or closing down,Irish sovereignty given to the EU/IMF,Not a single person brought to court or jail from the wrong doing's in Anglo and Nation wide,HSE in a mess,Minsters receiving few hundred grand in pension's like to pat them selfs on the back for a job well done?
One of the top 10 Danish banks failed yesterday. The senior bondholders are taking a 41% "haircut". Denmark although an EEC member has it's own currency, not the euro.(17/02/11).
@2LisbonTreaty I agree totally .Learning a second foreign language in times like this would make alot more sense and would put our money and educational resources to good use instead of wasting as you said 1 billion euros a year to force people to learn a language that the majority of people dont want to learn, end up not learning anything or a few words of nonsense and is holding our country back from moving on and ditching a useless ,dead language .
@irelandbacktoirish: The 1500 to 1800 hours I spent learning compulsory Irish has left only two lines of poetry in my memory.I know longer know what they mean. 50% of the Irish leaving cert. syllabus could be replaced by teaching useful skills.
I enjoyed learning a useful standard of French & Spanish when I worked in France,Belgium & Spain for UK companies.
Ned O'Keefe is a pig farmer who thinks Haughey was a great Prime Minister. In 1995, He called for the film ‘Babe’ to be banned because it could harm Christmas ham sales."
Now after 29 years in the Dail, this soldier of destiny insults the Defense forces as he tries to get his son elected!
Educational Quangos cost Irish citizens close to €1.5 billion – equivalent to what the State spends on the entire third-level sector.
Programmes for the disadvantaged and services for special needs children have been scaled back. Deeper cuts are expected over the next three years.(Irish Times 16/02/11)
I remember when I was around 12 years old I suggested to some adults that they should monitor the people who fix the roads better because they must be pocketing extras 4 themselves since the roads are always wrecked. Basically I got stared down, convinced that I was an idiot because nobody wud ever do that. Now its 2011 and those adults are jus starting to get the hint that these people are corrupt. Thats why the young leave and have no confidence. Theyre trained from day 1 to shut up and put up
BRIAN LENIHAN has been named the WORST finance minister in Europe for the second year running in the annual ranking of European finance ministers by the Financial Times newspaper.
He was recently a contender for leadership of the government soldier of destiny party.
Moodys have cut Irish Banks' ratings to junk status, following Brian Lenihan's announcement not to provide 7billion euros extra to Bank of Ireland, AIB & EBS, but to let the incoming government make the decision.(Financial Times,11/02/11).
gilmore won the debate last night ,he was calm and explained his views clearly without any fancy language and the tv3 panel were too biased spreading fianna fail propaganda to save their little corrupt asses last night , michael martin was all over the place ,all nervous ,talking more lies (no suprise its fianna fail) and constanly criticised gilmors plan which i have more confidence in then any of the crap he is trying to sell to the people . its a real shame that people are taken in by martin
mickey martin's "political reform plans" were derailed by his refusal to give up his €90,000 pay-off as a former minister, although he will keep his inflated td's salary.
mickey's leprechaun reforms consist of having MORE TDs. He describes true reform as "superficial & cosmetic."
all money grabbing parasites the lot of them , i see the labour party sent out the boys to pull down posters belonging to independent catherine murphy in kildare north, yes a new era in politics my arse . as for enda ( chicken ) kenny , another gobshite waiting in the wings . so we will have the same kind of gobshites voted in again and again and ...
THEY'RE ALL FULL OF SHIT I'm Irish and here are my personal circumstances ... I DO NOT 1. Have a mortgage with an Irish Bank 2. Have a car loan from an Irish Bank 3. Have a personal loan from an Irish Bank 4. Have a business loan from an irish Bank 5. Have an overdraft with an Irish Bank 6. Have a debt on a credit card issued by an Irish Bank So why should I pay for the debts of shyster bankers, developers and foreign speculators ??? ECB/IMF/IRISH GOV - GO FUCK YOURSELVES !!
Between 2005-2007 E20,000 of taxpayers money was squandered by Minister Mary Hanafin taking her mother Mona on 4 trips to New Zealand, US and Dubai.
In 2007 Mona Hanafin fell in the Dail and ultimately settled for E30,000 compensation while E21,000 in legal costs went to her FF legal representative.
The sooner BOTH of these parasites are permanently kicked out of the Dail the better off this country will be - FUCKING LEECHES !!!
The big question is: Will the Irish default be an orderly arrangement or sudden & catastrophic for both Ireland and the Euro project?
An orderly default could swop debt for equity. The creditors would own the banks in exchange for the debt. This would allow the economy some opportunity to recover.
While Minister for Enterprise during 2004 and 2007, Mr.M.Martin's department made payments of more than €5.7m to trade unions for the development of "partnership".
The money intended for staff training was instead used to pay for the trips to the US, Canada, Australia, Brussels and Hong Kong.(Irish Independent 06/02/11)
Ireland. Some 13,000 people have not paid their mortgages for a year while another 15,000 mortgage holders have made no payments for six months.(Irish Independent).
Fine Gael and Labour want to impose losses on the estimated €18.5bn in senior bank debt not covered by a government guarantee. About €3.5bn of that matures in the first quarter of 2011, before any incoming government takes its place.
Bankers said any move that reduced the cost of the bank bail-out should take pressure off the sovereign rating, which S&P downgraded on Wednesday. Financial Times (02/02/11)
It's like a cross between the Muppet Show and a bunch of drunks at a bar counter slagging each other off and fighting.
It's so depressing it makes re-emigration look like an attractive proposition. I just don't see how people who are institutionalised in the bubble of the Dail and have had their formative experiences in classrooms and solicitors offices can hope to reform and renovate an entire nation.
Personally, I think one guy with a flamethrower would go a long way !
Overpaid leprechaun politicians & their parasite senior civil servants expect citizens to pay ever increasing taxes to fund senior bondholders & banksters bad loans!
Making this private debt a public liability is unjust & impractical!
Expect the black economy to grow at an accelerating rate!
The Irish Central Bank revealed depositors from outside Ireland had withdrawn €35 billion in December 2010 alone. That figure is simply unprecedented given that for the entire 12 months of 2010, just over three times that figure was withdrawn.(Irish Times 04/02/11)
WORRIES ABOUT Ireland’s banking sector and the pace of economic recovery have led rating agency Standard & Poor’s (S&P) to downgrade its rating on Irish Sovereign Debt.
Problem loans, in S&P’s view, now amount to between 25 and 40 per cent of borrowings, up from 15-30 per cent previously.
The report on the banking system drops it two notches to Group 6 on a 10-point scale. It now ranks alongside the banking systems of countries such as Turkey, Cyprus and Estonia.(Irish Times 3/2/11
It beggars belief how mickey martin, the leprechaun currently leading the soldiers of destiny pretends that he had no part in creating the Failed State.
Perhaps the greens will help oppose the privatisation of Irish Forests when public asset stripping starts in earnest. Their camping & cycling skills could be useful.
its funny how the green party think that they are free of any wrong doing and think they are going to regain seats in the coming election . they were part of this shambles of a government that has scard this country and he knows his party is ruined and nobody will vote for them ,the greens are dreamers and in general are IDIOTS
Cowen has served in almost every major department of state and as Prime Minister. He leaves behind a legacy of a Failed State. This 50 year old will be immediately entitled to two pensions worth around €150,000 in total per year on his retirement.
This will be funded by those lucky to have jobs including widows on low pay.
Martin wasnt sorry when it emerged in 2005 that thousands of elderly patients were charged for public beds in nursing homes with €2 billion taken unlawfully by the state from vulnerable citizens. Martin, as Minister for health was given a briefing document disclosing the scandal, but did nothing. Why? ..He said, he did not read the brief! No sign of sorry' then. Doesn't augur well for a man who would expects us to believe he had no role in a Govt that sold us down the tubes.
Martin now wants to repeal the political system as he will be in opposition, and knows he will never have 2. Even though he served for 13 yrs in cabinet.

An orderly default could swop debt for equity. The creditors would own the banks in exchange for the debt. This would allow the economy some opportunity to recover.

Problem loans, in S&P’s view, now amount to between 25 and 40 per cent of borrowings, up from 15-30 per cent previously.
The report on the banking system drops it two notches to Group 6 on a 10-point scale. It now ranks alongside the banking systems of countries such as Turkey, Cyprus and Estonia.(Irish Times 3/2/11

mickey martin was Health Minister when 2 billion euros were illegally taken by the state from elderly citizens for nursing home beds.
Legally “all acts of the Department and of its officials are the acts of the Minister”.
martin did not bother to read the brief which disclosed the scandel and to this day claims that he was not responsible.

Perhaps the greens will help oppose the privatisation of Irish Forests when public asset stripping starts in earnest. Their camping & cycling skills could be useful.

ADIOS FIANNA FAILURE MOTHERFUCKERS
That wanker Cowen has just dissolved Dail Eireann and so ends the most shambolic shameful treacherous government in the history of the Irish state.
The Irish nation now has the opportunity on February 25th to annihilate these FAILURES at the ballot box.
