The standalone players can upconvert DVD's to hd resolution. The Xbox 360 HD-DVD player however is not able to. The max resolution you can get is 480p, standard progressive scan.

Even if HD DVD loses you would still have a great upscaling DVD player at a reasonable price. Your old DVDs will look better than before. These other companies don't want you to buy cheaper players. Get a HD DVD player while you can for $120 or less and be happy.

HD-DVD player plays video on the new disks HD-DVD which use a blue laser to read them and the disks store 15 GB to 30 GB of data on them. HD-DVD has pure HD video on the disk while and hdmi dvd player takes a regular def DVD and uscales it to HD video.
