@DjRaveKing why shuld i, im a tube colector, so i wouldnt distry them, and tube filaments only draw as much current as they nead to incandes, i actualy used the transformer in a project, were it suplied 6.3V to a 811A triode for the filament.
@suwadbureau its very simple, just jet a simple toroidial transformer (internet or ebay maby) and wind a new secendery. or get a masic toroid and wind about 680 to 1360 turns with thin wire, and wind a secendery with thick wire.
Is this a ferrite toroid? how many windings does the primary have to not saturate the core? I have been trying to built some small E-I shaped, silicon steel core transformers and they behave like shorts when I plug them to 120V, and I find it incledible that a ferrite one doesn't blow up. Maybe my problem is resonance...
@0Sebek0 well i dont recall the number of primary turns on the transformer, but i will tell you later today. and how many turns are you using on your transformer and in what configuration did you wind the coils and with what diamiter? with those infos i might be able to help you.
@lbochtler Thank you, the primary is about 450 turns of 30 AWG, consisting of 4 coils of 112 turns and 4 mm in lenght, in series and one after another (the polarities are correct, so the inductances add up), the secondary is 11 turns of 20 guage in a space of 3 mm. The core is 1.69 cm^2. Well I was thinking of getting 5 amperes and 12 volts, but it seems my design is incorrect hehehe.
@0Sebek0 i recalkulated the turns, i used about 700 turns of ? AWG wire i think i was 0.8mm or something wound on the core. origenaly i made the transfomrer to produce 24V AC (didnt work that well) i got 27 V but asid from that, this may help you, you just have to recalkulate the turn ratio to get the desired voltage.
@Sh1neful i neded the wire for another transformer, and i dident know how much i neded so i dident want to distroi the entire wire :D i only burnt off abaout 1" of the insulation.
that was so funny when they burnt together, a tip: put a current limiting resistor in ;)

And remember , the voltage rises before load .

2700VA ? You kidding bro . That doesn't even look larger then my unknown toroid that seems like 80VA only . Unless you switchmode'd the inputs .
DjRaveKing 1 month ago
@DjRaveKing im not kidding, the transformer got very hot after a few seconds, and i measured the voltage under load.
lbochtler 1 month ago
@lbochtler IF it got verryyyyyyyy hot , then it's undersized and you are running it OVERRRRRRRRRR design .

@DjRaveKing yap, i just wanted to have fun, it originaly designd it to heat a tube, but this happend :D well...

@lbochtler A tube ? O_o were you trying to destroy tubes :P

Please I need the schematics on how you have connected and also where to get some good sized toroids. Thanks for posting.

@lbochtler What was the input power that gave you so much wattage?
TheSuwadbureau 2 weeks ago
@TheSuwadbureau the transformer was powerd from 230V AC Mains on a 16A braker. if that answers your question
lbochtler 2 weeks ago
@lbochtler The wire you use, is it stranded or solid wire? sorry i am still a rooky.
TheSuwadbureau 2 weeks ago
@TheSuwadbureau it was stranded, it was the only way to wind such a larg winding on a toroidial transformer. the primary however is sold.

That would be perfect to load few boostcaps. I have similar transformer with self winded 12V coil. I guess I could wind another coil...

wow sweet man, hey have you ever heard of the Thane Heins BiToroid?
No bemf couples back to the primary & both secondaries feed eachother on separate lower reluctance flux paths.
consuming no real watts but outputing real power, i bet you would make a killer one :P
kdkinen 4 months ago
@kdkinen yes actualy i have hurd of it. but i didnt realy look into it. i just did thow, and if i have time and...
i might build one. and it would be a "kill" as you sed. :D
but dont expect it soon. it will take time, i have to finish other projects first to do something like that.
